The next possible release date would be the day after the Quarterly results call on Tuesday. It's also possible that there could be an event

I doubt it would be the day after. I very much doubt Apple will hold an event before WWDC, John Gruber pointed out that if Apple were going to hold an event the new Clips app would of been a great thing to demo on stage, along with showing off the new iPad they announced and the red iPhone. Apple will probably not hold an event and the next time we will see them on stage will be at WWDC which is mainly software focused! After that the September event will be mainly about the new iPhone 8 and 7s updates and possibly the iPad Pro 2, Mac's will probably get an update in October with the iMac and higher end iMac with "Pro" configurations.

I updated my previous posting (hit send a bit early). My feeling at the moment is a silent refresh - no stage - just Apple Store outage followed by 'new' 2017 model like they did for the "iPad" in March. Leaving it 18 months till an on-stage update in October seems a bit long, there's nothing revolutionary going to be added to make an event worth staging - even if they made the USB-C port a Thunderbolt one. The key point to all this has to be based on the battery to fuel the new additions. Apple have to get something more out of the battery to make other things worth doing so they can keep their battery life claims.

Apple do have a mild history of releasing new products just after quarterly results calls, though. They also have a history of dropping new (non-revolutionary) stuff a couple of weeks before or a couple of weeks after WWDC.

I could not hold out any longer for this, and picked up a lightly used 11" 2015 MBA 8GB / 512MB this weekend.

If something great drops, I'll resell the Air, but I just can't wait any longer.

Just checked Currys in the UK. No delivery of any current 12" MacBook. You can only select collect in store and there aren't any I can see. So it looks like stock is being limited.

Financial results today from Apple. In the past I recall an update the day/weeks after the financial call.

I read that somewhere yesterday, Apple has often released something new the day after the call. I was on my Bloomberg terminal reading streaming Apple news so i didnt catch the publication.

I felt the same, and I still feel it is a little overpriced, but after upgrading, man I was wrong.

Yes they should shave 200$ but the computer is AMAZING, I would dare saying the best upgrade I have ever done, the touch bar is good (not great but good enough ) the computer is super zippy, the screen oh boy that is stunning, the audio is something impressive, I mean really I still ave to find a fault.(apart the price).
can I ask what computer you upgrade from?
because of course the new MBP is going to be "good",the argument here is it's not "amazing".when compared to the better Macs launch,it's disappointing, otherwise, orcourse a brand new laptop will be zippy and of course the high resolution retain screen is nice, but here is the problem it's just not good enough.expectation were (rightfully) much higher, and considering the extra expensive price tag, the thing failed to deliver.

Release optimism reigns. We need a new prediction poll.

Well I had a MacBook Air 2015 and yes you are right it depends from what computer you come from, but that can be said about ANY upgrade.

I mean of course if you have a 2015 MBP the jump is not so great, 1 generation is usually a small bump and never a HUGE improvement.

The problem is expectation, people expect too much, I mean consider this:
Better display (Of course better than the MBA but yet better than the last MBP)
Faster SSD (Of course faster than the MBA but yet better than the last MBP)
Faster CPU (Of course faster than the MBA but yet better than the last MBP)
More connectivity (or should I say more flexible, I was really skeptical about this but hey it works better than I thought, all i needed was a 2 $ adapter, and soone those will be gone too :D)
Better GPU (Of course faster than the MBA but yet better than the last MBP)
Better Keyboard (you just need to get used to it, but it really is better)
New TouchBar
Improved sound (boy this one was a huge difference!!)
Improved chassis
Lighter (not lighter than a MBA but still impressive for a 15 inches!)
Smaller bezels
Smaller footprint (not smaller than a MBA but still impressive for a 15 inches!)
Improved trackpad
Touch ID

I mean it is hardly just a display or an ssd as you imply, the machine improved all around and it is a big update, now is it worth if you came from a 2015 MBP? Probably not, but I bet the 2017 MBP won't be worth an upgrade from the 2016, as much as a 2015 was not worth if you had a 2014.....

There are many little pieces then when you put them together makes this a good update, a little pricey and that I completely agree, but I was able to get it from AMAZON at 450$ less then the official price tag, wich puts it back in the right price range.

So even without considering I had a MacBook Air (wich was docket with a high res display anyway) it is not the faster cpu, nor the faster ssd and neither the display, but the whole package to me felt worthed. (personal opinion)

Just had a look at John Lewis UK. Rose gold on the base spec is OOS online and the other base spec are in single digit stock. Silver they only have 1 in stock.

I looked at the MBP and the base spec looks like it's low too. All the higher spec are fully in stock.

At a guess I'd say maybe a week to a month away if the stocks don't go back up.

Best Buy deal of the day: $300 off 2016 MB. Mostly seeing two day shipping option with store pickup in a week. C'mon Apple, show me the sticky!

Soooo tempting....

Must. Wait. For. New. Model.

Local store pick up date is 5/10 for me FYI

I’m asking myself if a “magic less” NTB MBP could simply do the job instead of the rMB ?

Getting tired of waiting...

guys, i think its clear Apple is waiting for late 2017 to update the Macbook with coffelake. Its a more so called important update than kaby lake. We are getting codecs and native TB3

Could someone please give a link to this TB3-rumor?
As far as I know, the new chip-set will feature USB3.1gen2, but nothing I was able to find, was about Thunderbolt 3.

I've been lurking this website for a long time but made an account solely to respond to this post as I keep seeing people say this. Coffee Lake is solely for 15/28W chips which the 12-inch MacBook does not use. It's either Kaby Lake now or waiting for Cannonlake. My prediction for what's new in the high-end MacBook model is...

Intel Core i7-7Y75
16GB LPDDR4 RAM (option)
720p Webcam
Second generation butterfly mechanism keyboard

...and perhaps by a long shot, Thunderbolt 3.

Native VP9 support in Kaby Lake (as well as Safari) and a 16GB RAM option would make me consider upgrading from my 2015 1.1. TB3 would be nice for gaming but I think those need extra controllers.

Samsung just came out with 8GB mobile LPDDR4 modules approx. 6 months ago, so there's a good chance the next Macbook will have 16GB of RAM.

But that's only if it supports LPDDR4. And Kaby Lake won't support LPDDR4. Hell, i7-7Y75 doesn't support DDR4 at all. DDR3L or LPDDR3 only.

https://ark.intel.com/products/95441/Intel-Core-i7-7Y75-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

And no Thunderbolt 3 either.

If a Kaby Lake update comes out, the higher end configuration would probably be...

Intel Core i7-7Y75
8GB LPDDR3
720p webcam
2nd gen butterfly keyboard
NO Thunderbolt 3, still single USB-C port

So basically we're paying more for NOTHING at all. Kaby Lake is barely <10% faster than Skylake. If even. The difference between Kaby Lake and Skylake has been benchmarked to be even less than Skylake m5 -> m7. There's a reason we haven't heard much fanfare about Kaby Lake for the past half year.

Guys, seriously, all signs point to either a useless update by WWDC, which I don't think Apple wants at all, or an update straight to Cannonlake somewhere around the end of the year. It's most likely going to be October/November at this rate.

Edit: and even that is looking pretty "optimistic":

The problem basically is that the "upgrade" to the next chip is currently not even an "upgrade" at all. It's just like they're renaming the higher-end configurations of the MacBook to i5/i7.

More like confirms that finding cheap/on sale 2nd gen looking the way to go..

More reason for a small update now (camera, 2nd gen keyboard) and a bigger one in 9-12 months. If the big update would come within 6 months, a small update would be a waste of resources.
Based on how things are being described, it seems like if there was going to be a small update, it should have happened in April. There's just no explanation for a delay in the minor spec boost and keyboard improvement.

I made a real go at the 13" tbMBP and was waiting for this macbook update. But I got tired of this game and decided to buy a lightly-used fully loaded 11" 2015 Macbook Air last weekend.

I would happily upgrade to a Cannon Lake / TB3 this fall.
