i say that to people all the time! that the trackpad its the best, if your dragging something you can move it all the way across the screen without taking a break! and the clicking, i am a bit upset about that, apple claimed that the entire trackpad was one big button, when in reality, its only god at the bottom, farthest away from the top hinge, but no matter, since i use the tap, which has become so intuitive to me, as well as the multiclutch commands for fire fox- 3 fingers up, new tab, 3 down, close tab, to the side is switch tabs, i love it! also, the click apple has claimed has been precisely tuned for a satisfying sound, when its pretty annoying really. but for any new buyer out there lookign at these forums- i know i sure did- be sure to know that the hinge is at the top of the trackpad on these, and you CANNOT click it there, it just doesn't work.

i also have a nice logitech v470 bluetooth mouse, and i find myself not even using it due to the smoothness of the trackpad! it might also be bcause my hands are to big to fit on that tiny little thing, haha

I can click almost all the way to the top! And Apple did NOT lie about the whole trackpad being a button... it is, you just have to take into consideration the hinge system underneath! But i think the fact that you have a significantly more surface to click on makes up for that tiny stretch at the top that doesn't... come on people!!!
People should also know that not EVERYBODY hates the clicking sound of the trackpad. I don't use it much because i LOVE tap to click but when I do, it's actually not as bad as people say it is.
HOWEVER, i agree that you should go play with one in the store before you consider buying! Just like with almost any other product. At least that's what I do...

+1 (or however many there are) LOVE the new trackpad.

It is so smooth and I also use the "tap to click". On all my previous laptops I always used the button because I hated tap to click but right now I am loving it. I went to use my cousins Vaio the other day and im tryna do 2 finger scrolls and my fingers are no longer on the tiny trackpad.

This is probably one of the best feature on the new MacBooks

If I set tap to click in Leopard will it carry over to windows via BootCamp? Also, do you find that you tap/click by accident a lot?

ChrisN

I have not had an issue with that so far.. I think it does a pretty good job at sorting out the accidental taps.
tap to click should work just fine in Windows, however in Vista i think you have to use the three-finger tap for Right Click, as opposed to the two-finger in OSX.

hadn't thought of that. might try it. sometimes I click, sometimes I tap. More use will determine which way I lean. sometimes I find that I am dragging an app out of or to a new location in the dock when I though I was selecting it. It gets a bit confusing, but that must just be the learning curve.

not sure how to do that. can you take your hand off it and then keep sliding. maybe I don't have that enabled. I find it a problem when moving mail to a subfolder or similar dragging things.

also, are there similar commands/gestures for Safari with regards to tabs. I know I can double tap in the tab bar for a new untitled tab.
well, mulitclutch is a program that lets you assign gestures to keyboard commands, in a specific program, or in general.
and yea, i find that clikcing and holding down is actually a bit strenuous when dragging, but i was refering to the sheer size of the thing, my roomate's dell trackpad is about 1 inch square!

oh, sorry vsmacone, i can click all the way to the top, but in the last 2cm, it just gets way to hard, and is not really realistic to click there i think, you have to push really hard.
plus, idk why everyone is whinign about there being no button! basically, you get more track pad space, and the button is bigger, and is it also the easiest to click where a normal button would be! its better in every way!

Noise:confused: I also can't figure that one out. Maybe the OP should try working in my insanely chaotic office--an accomplishment to hear yourself think!

Love the new TP, and now find myself trying to scroll with two fingers on older Macs and Windows machines! As a minor quibble, it seems that the very top of the TP is a bit less sensitive than the middle.

I'm still trying to get used to the trackpad. I usually click with my thumb while I rest my index finger on the trackpad, so this removing my index finger part, I'm still trying to get used to.

I think the tap to click ill work, but some of the other multitouch gestures will not.

It will take some time to get used to it, but the giant MB trackpad is very awesome and a huge selling point for the new MBs. Especially after you download Multiclutch and start customizing gestures for different applications: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/585802/. I too have switched to the tap to click, the trackpad can be quite loud.

I still prefer a mouse which is what I have. So how do I turn off the trackpad though?

I can't help you there, but why does it matter? Just plug the mouse into the USB and it should work fine, even though the trackpad is stil "on".

No I had a powerbook. I sometimes accidentally swipe the trackpad when I type.

It's a bit annoying.

Stuff99 - I doubt there's actually a way to *disable* the track pad... but if you swipe while typing it shouldn't be such a big deal... since... you're typing, so it doesn't matter where the mouse is, as long as it's not clicking. So maybe just disabling the tap-click would help.

I FOUND IT I FOUND IT!!!!
In system preferences... go into keyboard&mouse... then go to the "trackpad" tab... and check off "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present"

DAMN i'm sorry.. i don't have leopard I have tiger... I guess it could be different there. Maybe in your Finder Help search for the words "ignore trackpad" and see if it finds anything, since now we at least know what the instruction is in tiger! :)

My track pad will not two finger zoom anymore - I must have changed something. It will two finger scroll, etc., but not zoom or shrink. Any ideas on what I did or how to change it back?

I dont know if its normal but my track is a little skew on the right side. Has it to do I used to many right click? Because I now noticed on the right side of my trackpad the edges is bigger than the left side. I can feel it too...

I have to admit, that the trackpad on this new macbook's are horribel vs those trackpad's on the Air. How could Apple do this, this is crazy, they make to much noise, and the feel of the big button when pushed down is like mye worst nightmare! I will never by any macbook again, until this trackpad is replaced, how could they do this..... Oyvind.
First post? Poor grammar? Dubious smell? Troll, anyone?

I love this trackpad so much that I honestly don't know what I'm gonna do when I have to use desktops... I used a friend's laptop the other day and I felt handicapped cause theirs was so small and I had to take my fingers off to click. I love this thing!
