This thread isn't what the people want in the next iPhone, nor is it reasonable - this is your personal wish list. Honestly, most of it is kind of laughable, like this 3D stuff. If you want a 3D device, go get a DS. Leave the rest of us out of it.

Ok fine. The 3D screen is controversial (for now). It won't be controversial six months from now once more people experience how amazing glassfree 3D looks like I got to. :D

But for now, yeah, I can see people who've never seen it not caring about that feature.

So setting aside the 3D screen, what exactly on this list is unreasonable?

Everything I listed is a natural evolution of stuff we already have.

And as for phones with smaller bezels, the evo 4g, and tons of similar smartphones have smaller bezels than the iPhones, without any problems. Note, I'm not talking about the bezel on the sides, the evo 4g has a huge bezel on the sides. But on the top and the bottom, the evo 4g's bezel is smaller than the iPhones by quite a lot.

The Evo 4G is a 4.3 inch screen. More importantly, it has a HUGE bezel. So a 4 inch iPhone wouldn't be near that size.

They could accommodate a 4 inch screen onto to the current iphone by making it a mere 2mms wider simply by shrinking the size of the current bezel on the top, the bottom and the sides.

Trust me, an iPhone with a 4 inch screen would be PERFECT.

Typing would become much easier, as would browsing, and watching movies on a 4 inch screen would actually be worthwhile (based on my experience with the PSP).

Thanks for the clarification! I thought the evo was a 4 inch screen, my mistake! With your explanation I'm going to have to agree with you. A 4 inch screen would be nice!

most of your 'natural evolutions' are simply functions apple could have put into the iPhone 3G or 3GS already but decided not to.

... and stuff like fingerprint and credit card scanners ... sure ... let's have the phone equivalent of this thing!

Because Steve never lies about what apple wants...

Yes good comeback.
Steve Lies about everything. Tells the media that there would not be video on the ipod, brings out video.
Tells the media apple isn't interested in ebooks. Brings out ibooks. You can bank if he says no, it's coming!

Yeah, just like the front facing camera, or led flash are things Apple could have put in the phone 3g (or the iPad) if they wanted to but opted not to.

Just like how Apple the gyrometer or 3G is something that could have been in the original iPhone.

Face it, Apple adds more features every single generation of the iPhone. An RFID chip and the other hardware additions are just the next step in a long and well established pattern.

As for your other complaint, it sounds like you don't understand the concept of software. The iPhone's camera is more than capable of capturing business cards and fingerprints.

A built in business card scan function in the contact list would be insanely useful. Instead of manually entering in contact info, you simply take a photograph of the business card and press add to contact list and it will fill in the info fo ryou.

Looks good idea.

they did buy that augmented reality company(TAT) it was posted here on macrumors so I would be expecting that in the near future too

1) Be tougher, like the 3 GS was/is.
2) T-Mobile GSM version.
3) Sprint PCS version.

Other than that, it is perfect ;)

So, when is Blu-Ray going to be supported ;)

Put me down for the 4" screen!

Next year's iPhone will need to have a seperate GPU and/or improved speed for me to get it.

If I pass on next year's iPhone, then the iPhone 6 (2012) MUST have a 4" screen!

I use my phone as a multimedia device (internet browsing, games, apps) MUCH MUCH more than I use it as a social device (phone, text, email).

If the screen stays this small I'll be moving to whatever the best phone is with a big screen (ex: the future captivate or evo) because by then Android should be silky smooth like iOS.

This is mostly a geek thing though.

My mom, dad, and sister use there i4's just to talk and occassionally text or take a picture, so a bigger screen would be a turnoff.

Apple can get around this by keeping the phone itself the same size while increasing the screen size.

I play games on my phone more than many and I still don't need that top/bottom bezel AT ALL.

It's got criminally wasted space in my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly. You should email Steve, I have.

We don't need quite such a large bezel on the top and bottom. The evo 4g has a smaller bezel on the top and bottom and it's easy to hold.

make it as durable as the FIRST gen iphone

that thing, quite simply, was a tank. The back of that phone took all damages like a champ and seriously the front would never scratch. i think each iphone screen has actually become EASIER to scratch as they have progressed through generations

Gorilla Glass (I've seen the Dell Streak run over by a car and survive thanks to Gorilla Glass and I've seen the iPhone 4's glass shatter after a mere 4 foot drop),

Though this slightly off topic - a flat object being run over by a car (presumably a slow moving car because they wanted to test the strength, and not a car going 40mph because the phone slipped onto a road) and a flat object being dropped and receiving blunt force impact is very different.

Doing the car test with streak vs ip4, im sure, would yield the same results.

Beer grabbing, breakfast making and house cleaning abilities in addition to the original list. Intergalactic travel would also be nice but i'm ready to wait till iPhone 7 for that.

THIS, if you crash your motorcycle, the biggest impact is not you sliding down the road, its you falling over onto the ground. Helmets are made to withstand the impact of dropping over from an average person's height.

I ran over a coworkers brand new iPhone 3GS last year in my 3800 lb Rodeo. She had gotten out of my car and dropped it onto gravel/dirt parking lot. She went back and found it, there were indentations in the screen protector from the gravel, but when she removed that, the phone was perfect.

Simply put, a 4-5 foot drop has much higher force on the phone than a car gently rolling over it.

Given how fragile the iPhone 4 actually is, I sincerly doubt it would survive a car running over it.

Irrespective, there is no way in hell that the iPhone 4 screen would survive anything close to this kind of abuse.

And yet the Streak didn't get so much as a scratch on it. So yes, gorilla glass would be a welcome upgrade.

1) Let add content to lock screen
2) Mail bubble notifications
3) Replace application icons

What do you mean by "Mail bubble notifications?" Do you mean like how you get notified when you get a text? Most people get emails constantly so that would actually be really annoying. I think an LED indicator light on the home button would work best.

I'm not sure about replacing application icons. The icons make the phone easy to use from person to person. Replacing them could lead to a lot of confusion imo. I think we should be able to delete and rename all applications though, as I wrote in the op.

I also mentioned lock screen content modification in the OP.

  1. Syncing of To-Do items in iCal <sigh>.
  2. More reliable GPS & 3G reception.
  3. Get rid of the home button on the front - it wastes space. Mount it on the side.
  4. Make it robust enough so there is no need to buy a case.
  5. Fix the inaccurate tracking of touch near the edge of the screen.

get rid of the 30pin, and use a mini/micro USB or even some form of magsafe. 30 pin is lame. maybe add an easier to remove/removable battery? idk bout bluetooth 4.0 or whatever, thats kinda redundant when the current iPhone has N-wifi, keeping the bluetooth current like they do is fine. wifi/OTA syncing/backup sure would be nice. the ability to turn multi-tasking on/off would be really nice, and the ability to delete certain built-in apps (and be able to download them again if wanted) would be good. lose the glass back too.

Yeah, that would be nice. It sucks that all of my current iPhone accesories would become obselete though, but I think it's worth it in the long run.

Regardless, I think you're about to get your wish. EU recently passed a law saying that all their phones have to have a micro usb port/charger.

Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I personally would like the ability to add content to the lockscreen. That would be a nice upgrade next year.
