They should lock both sides in a room. No bathroom, no desks, no food, no drinks, shattered glass all over the floor, and ask them to kindly remove their shoes once entering the building. A deal would get done within several minutes.

Solid video, useless petition.

Hey how about those owners and GMs getting a little vacation from their hibernation to go around the PA to talk to the players? That's some fun news!

That whole thing seems sketchy-players and GMs could have talked for 48hrs but the PA didnt know or wasn't told? Just doesn't make sense.

I am not sure who to believe-

Sure- but then you'd have no season because the players would be recovering from bloody feet. Great solution.

Huge news for me!

FINALLY!

Islanders will call Brooklyn home... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=408031

As a Brooklyn boy, and Islander fan from back then, Im happy they arent going somewhere like Quebec. The only thing is, the Barclay Center will only seat a bit over 14k for hockey games, so some renovations are going to have to be made, even though the Islanders did average under that number last season.

The Islanders haven't had a yearly attendance average over the capacity of Barclay's since like 2002. Better to have a slightly smaller, brand new, state of the art stadium packed full than an old dump half full.

Ticket prices will inevitably go up in Brooklyn compared to Nassau County though. Maybe not right away, since it's going to be a tough sell in an even more saturated market for a growing team, but soon enough.

Let's hope the Islanders finally have all those good pieces come together and gel into a winner by then. As an outsider with no care about the Isles am glad they're staying in the area and keeping their same name/logo instead of moving elsewhere.

I think we are going to have to come up with "board" games to keep ourselves occupied-that or whine about the AHL, ECHL, WHL, QMJHL, CHL, and yes the KHL.

Rangers Forward Rick Nash pots a hat trick against the Lightning on Oct. 23rd, but the Lightning still take the game 4-3 OT.

:(

Moving the islanders was a dumb move...taking the train in the city for a team that actually wins is going to be a nightmare :D

Hopefully the LIRR will run more trains when both the rangers and the "New York Islanders of Brooklyn" play or the NHL with try and not put both teams at home...

I think the smaller arena will be good but ticket prices will go up not the mention the arena sight-lines weren't made for hockey..

So i am sitting here watching the Giants in the world series. As a bay area sports fan, I am happy and proud they are there. However, I feel almost no emotional connection to this team/sport. I am finding myself almost not caring.
I cannot stop thinking that there is another team here that is capable of getting to the finals two out of three years I cannot even get excited when another team in our area is on the crisp of a WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP. Now maybe this is because I have never been a big baseball fan to start with-but I should care that we have a team about to win a championship, yet I almost could care less.

I think I am starting to feel the strain of the situation we are in. And my frustration is starting to turn to apathy, indifference and overall emotionless. I almost just want them to end it now so we can all move on.

As a Detroit Metro native and Detroit Tigers fan, the horrible void of the NHL lockout was temporarily filled by a World Series run. Now that it has come to a miserable crashing halt, that void is larger than ever. Hooray, NHL lockout!

assuming the reports about the Winter Classic being offed are true

Does anyone think HBO will come back to the NHL after all this? I mean they aren't hurting for money-we need them far more than they need us. If I were HBO, I wouldn't.

Until about a week ago, I was convinced that having the Winter Classic and the Hockeytown Winter Festival (week of goodies including the GLI/AHL/Alumni games downtown) was the best way to either start the season or help a shortened season get past the off-season issues.

Now I am firmly in the belief that even if a deal was cut in the next week, it should be delayed until 2014. The Winter Classic is more than a game, the Winter Classic at the Big House in front of 115,000 is more than an incredible event. Then you consider the Hockeytown Winter Festival, there's a ton of stuff going on that needs to be just perfect.

...It also gives me time to save and re-asses my NHL priorities and perhaps snatch up a 2013 Red Wings game pack and tickets. :p

I have real sympathy for the Red Wings and the state of Michigan. This entire event (from prepping the big house all the way to tearing it all down) would have brought much needed economic relief and morale. Now, a state that needed help more than anyone is getting kicked in the face because millionaires and billionaires cannot agree on how to share a pie that, at the rate we are going, will be NOTHING this year.

I am beyond the point of no season-thats more of a formality than the cancelation coming tomorrow. I am now beginning to realize that we may be witnesses to the total and irreparable loss of interest, care and sponsorship of a major sport in America.

Yeah, it is sad at this point. The last lockout wasn't even ten years ago. If this practice isn't stopped, it WILL do irreparable harm to the sport. The owners have to stop using this tactic every damn time, especially given how much revenues have been up.

Does this league want any other companies to do business with them ever again?

I'm sure all the sponsors are thrilled that the winter classic is cancelled now. NBC must be so happy too with the $2 billion dollar television contract they signed with the NHL a couple years ago.

Why should any of these companies renew their contracts with the NHL in the future when they know when the next CBA expires they'll just be another lockout and another year of lost revenue?

It's amazing that "businessmen" who run this league could be so unbelievably stupid to how much this is going to hurt their business.
