Been playing Metroid Dread over the past week. Even played some Metroid while waiting for my train. My first time playing on a portable console when outside since the PSP days.

Amazing game, I think I am pretty close to the end since I've gotten all main upgrades. Gonna clear out the map now that I have the power bombs and wave beam. Closing in about 10 hours of playtime. I think that's about what I spent when I first played Super Metroid couple years back (that one was with save states though, maybe I ought to play it as intended back in the day (not having checkpoints gonna hurt though oof)

Welp shame on me... 😳

Picked it up again, the switch 2.
Grabbed Pokemon Legends Z-A
Spyro reignited trilogy
Mario kart 8 deluxe

And I think Spyro might be going back, didn't realize it required a download. No wonder it was 20 bucks. Just probably wait for a sale like I should have and buy it digitally...

Pokemon, this one slipped through. Went in for Pokopia ended up with ZA. Didn't catch it until got home. Not sure if this is going back for Pokopia or just keep it and try it. Still looking into it.

Anyone play this one? Never really got into Pokemon. Was interested in Pokopia since it's like a Minecraft animal crossing cozy game. So not sure about keeping ZA.

Mario kart, think I got the right one. Wasn't really interested in world.
ZA is alright. It's pretty different from Pokopia. ZA is a more actiony RPG closer to the mainline Pokemon games. I enjoyed both, but I enjoy Pokemon. Pokopia is IMO, the better game though.

That's what I was thinking. Was considering giving ZA a shot anyway since I'm trying to get back into gaming and it's a bit different. Have been thinking of giving RPGs a try just wasn't sure where to start. Definitely interested in Pokopia though so my sure if I should just swap while I can or just do both games and pick up Pokopia later.

Spyro required download is disappointing but only in 20 bucks for it.

I'm hoping I can get the thing set up soon before I sit on it too long like last time. Strange it's easier to get ahold of (semi) physical games for this system and struggling finding for the PS5 I panic bought last month before it's price hike

Hey so I finally opened the box up and got the console partially set up 😳

It did allow me to set up without connecting to the Internet or signing in or making an account. Just told me to insert cart to play.

Set up was quicker than expected but then again not connecting to Internet probably sped that process up. The real question is, how usable is this device without the Internet? I did think I read somewhere that switch 1 games need a quick download to play (have Mario kart 8 deluxe). The other game, well key card almost will certainly require me to connect. A bit late in the day to try right now.

The other question is, upon connecting to the Internet, is the thing going to force me to create an account or Nintendo account to get anywhere?

I did end up swapping out Pokemon Legends Z-A and returning Spyro reignited trilogy and got Pokopia.

Am keeping an eye out for a micro SD card.

I do have a couple other potential games I'm interested in should they be on sale such as super Mario Wonder (switch 1 edition as I don't think the 2 version brings anything I'm interested in) possible Zelda, Pokemon Legends Arceus but thinking a bit too far ahead.

You're going to need the internet to play Pokopia as it's a Game Key Card. You're probably going to want patches too. At least for some games.

Not having an account is going to keep you from being able to buy digital games and DLC. And for some games like MK8D that DLC is worth it IMO. There are also games that will never get a physical release. It's also going to stop you from playing online at all and using things like cloud saves and the Nintendo Switch Online Classic games.

Figured I'd need an Internet connection for key cards 🤮

Not really interested in cloud saves or dlc (I mean 80 bucks for a game and you want more money or the the thing is incomplete at release? C'mon!) or the subscription junk.

Would prefer to keep as locally as possible. Tired of this always online drip feed reliance every company is so bent on. But I digress...

Guess if I have to I mean I kind of knew what I was getting into when I picked up this generation of consoles 😖

The DLC for MK8D came out over half a decade after the Deluxe version released and didn't start development until years after. It's just "more", it wasn't incomplete at release and it clearly wasn't something they cut out of the original game to hold back.

Do you think it would be better to re-release the whole game again to add minor changes a la Street Fighter II or Pokemon Crystal? I'd rather pay $20 and download the extra content than re-buy the entire game again at full price. You don't have to buy the DLC obviously but it doubles the number of courses so it adds a fair bit.

Since I'm really limiting the functionality of the system and have an avoidance to wanting to connect online, create new accounts and apparently lack understanding of the new way things just are now, such as dlc and such, thinking about just passing this system over to my sister (and maybe the PS5 pro too) and just find something else. Struggling to find physical games locally also. She's the gamer, I guess I'm the collector and she can actually find the games she's looking for. So systems would get used proper. She actually picked up a Zelda game while she was out and about today (not sure what one).

Picked a really bad time to get back into gaming after all these years.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You don't have to create a Nintendo account to use it online for Game Key Cards or patches. You just have to connect it to the WiFi or Ethernet on the dock.

Is there no local game store in your area at all either?

Maybe consider going the retro route?

You don't have to force yourself either.

Theres Walmart GameStop and best buy. And pickings are slim. It's a little bit easier finding switch games at these places (still want to know how people are finding the discounts though).

Anyway gave the switch 2 to my sister. She played it for a bit and gave it back so since the cart was open already, I decided to pop it in and try legend of Zelda Links awakening and I have no idea what I'm doing. Quick look on line was basically explore and talk to everyone. And so I have...

Actually surprisingly I seem to be actually getting into the game. Been actually trying to play it. And kind of having fun 🙂

Did connect the thing to the Internet. Haven't docked it yet. Might need to ask after a while I can start feeding it in my arms.

I think some of the discounts at places like Wal-mart are just luck. I've had success getting games off Ali Express for a bit cheaper, it's a roll of dice whether you get a US, EU, Japanese or Hong Kong version but for a lot of games they have all the languages on the cart anyways and the only difference is the box and the cart sticker.

Link's Awakening is good, it's a remake of an older title so it doesn't hold your hand as much.

Recently took my Lite on a trip. Was thankful for the last second decision of throwing it into my backpack because it turned out I forgot to buy the book I wanted to read on my iPad (thought I did, but I did not) so I just played Skyrim instead which felt awesome. 2012 me would be elated if he knew that I would be able to play skyrim on a plane on a tiny device like that (and that it will run better on it than on my ps3 😂)

Is the pro controller worth getting? This has been earmarked as a potential add-on for this system as well as an micro SD card (should I find one for a good price.... I think there is a wireless and wired controller. Might seek out the wireless. Trying not to pick up any more games for a while.

Been playing the thing handheld so far. It's not bad. Haven't tried the 4k tv yet.

Thinking I should have kept the original switch 2 I got and returned a while ago.

There's only a wireless 1st party Pro controller. There are wired alternatives from others. It's pretty good, it feels nice, has smooth sticks, it's comfy, long battery life, big face buttons, gyro. Not every controller that's compatible with Switch 2 can turn it on remotely though, that's something to be aware of (including lamely some of the officially licensed Switch 2 ones). For playing on TV I would say it's worth it.

There's also some good alternatives from others like the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 or Pro 3. I've heard good things about GameSir although I've never tried them. You can also get USB adapters to use controllers from other brands like Sony.
