You guys and gals are not missing much. I have the Switch 2 and the upgrades are not worth the asking price, although my Switch 2 turned out to be free. Graphics for AC New Horizons Switch vs S2 is barely noticeable and many of the S2 games like Hades 2 runs in 1080P on the S2.
I have NS1 still and I'll finish at least TotK, DKC TF and Thousand Year Door before moving on from it. But I'll likely wait with getting a NS2 until the second version or OLED has released. To me personally I find the graphics perfectly acceptable on mine, even playing on my 55" 4K OLED TV, so once I upgrade it'll be because of the exclusives like a new Mario and Zelda, hopefully even Animal Crossing.

I love higher framerates, but the older I get the more I accept poorer graphics as long as the gameplay is robust and it has a nice artstyle. I do know that with time NS2 too will have a banger library, but I don't like to buy consoles until I know what it is. I loved my PS2, but skipped PS3 and PS4 because of the poor amount of games that interested me, so I'm pretty principled in that regard.

The thought did cross my mind a bit ago the switch 2 is newer with newer CPU and GPU (couldn't give a huge rip for fps or frame Gen or anything) a bit more ram. Whole thing still seems like an incremental upgrade however but while it has the switch 2 games available to it, it might also have to be extensive switch 1 library to go along with it available on a cart. Not sure I would be paying for the graphical s2 versions or not or even if it's required to do so.

The cost of entry for the s2 is a bit pricey I mean PS5 range. Already have a couple PS5 games for my sisters system.

Hmmm like trying to pick a vanilla ice cream but more expensive 😳 🤪

I bought my series x for 350. Oled switch retailed for the same. Honestly if I had to pick one that would be switch, even though indeed it "costs like xbox/ps5" So it might be inferior in power and etc, but it makes up for it in emotional part and game design/mechanics.

Some 3rd party games are atrocious, or "more atrocious". If supported, I'm guessing Sw2 specs would help with those. Off the top of my head, Arkham Asylum would go from a range of 5 to 15 fps, to... hopefully at least 30 to 60. Something like Hogwarts Legacy that was slated to be better for PS4/5, PC, and XbsX (if not also SD) that was OK (I say a friend play it on TV mode for Sw1), would hopefully get a face lift.

True but in most cases there's a cost of $10 to get that even if you owned the S1 version.
Well, if you didn't own the Sw1 version, you'd be paying for the whole thing anyways, if not a special Sw2 version.

FWIW, games like Zelda: TotK also have graphical improvements, more textures, and some "companion helper app" included with the upgrade price, in addition to now being at 60 fps

However if you own the game, that should be a complimentary upgrade because it is a Nintendo game and not all of these paid upgrades that Nintendo is charging for are worth the costs. The Animal Crossing upgrade has been panned by those who purchased it with some users saying they felt ripped off. I watched a YT video and compared the game with and without the upgrade and the graphical upgrade was minimal at best and I could see why some felt ripped off by Nintendo.

Then there's the recent Xenoblade Chronicles X upgrade where Nintendo is charging $5 and the game looks worse than the Wii U version. Some users began to complain and Nintendo issued refunds.

Ended up going window shopping for a bit trying to do more research this morning. Got to see a OLED switch and switch 2. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to play much. The OLED was lights are on nobody is home.

What struck me first was the size difference between them. Also the 2 seemed a little more top heavy but was lashed down as they usually are in an electronics store. Quick glance screen on the 2 didn't look terrible but not playing much on it.

Next thing I noticed was the lack of hardly anything on the store I was in. Games, systems (probably behind the counter) and prices. So went to another location.

An actual game store. Looked at some of the games I might be interested in for the switch 2 and literally half of them where game key cards. Really got mixed feelings on this situation as well as digital. Guess I better get with the times that new consoles are basically service devices now. Not quite like the live service games like high guard but almost like that.

So walked out of the stores empty handed (looks like scraps of remaining hardware left anyway) to do some (over)thinking and wondering if I should also try to pursue older systems especially since the last two 3ds games I got new from scamazon where for another region all together like the UAE so the games are going back. Definitely tried to make sure we ordered correctly on Amazon. Guess ordering from them in the first place was not the best idea.

Well, the wallet isn't smiling. At least the sticker is on cellophane unlike the cardboard of the console...

Probably be a day or so before I get around to setting it up. Wish I could just stick the carts in and just play. Almost went OLED, but a couple switch 2 games have piqued my interest...

Starting to consider a return on things already. Wasn't fully on board with things as it was. Was talking to my sis about things while she was out and she went ahead with the purchase.

Right now it's been sitting still in the box and I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to get to it and set up. 😖

Well, I did end up returning the things. No reason to have everything sitting around unopened. Might as well go to someone who will actually use the thing 🙂

Just other things going on and gaming has been hard to come by as it is.

I’m glad that I bought a Steam Deck instead of a Switch 2. I’ve already spent more time playing the deck handheld than I have done with my Switch for 5 years.

One big reason why I play the deck more often it’s the WIDE and CHEAP range of games. Switch games are very expensive. Even 2-5 years old titles are sometime still £30-50. That makes me hesitant to buy games as the risk of not liking them in relation to the price is high. Because I don’t buy new games for the switch often I end up not playing it.

Some titles for the Switch are £17-30 whilst a steam key is £1 to £4. This makes me take a gamble on indie games or titles that I would never have played. It’s made me discover amazing titles which on the switch I would not buy for £20-40.

Don’t even get me started on the price of Mario Kart World.

Bought the S2 a month ago. I couldn't resist anymore playing the new 'Donkey Kong' (my first game was 'Donkey Kong Land' for the original Game Boy).

I feel very nostalgic about the character and my childhood. Also missed having a 3D 'Donkey Kong' game since the N64 (best console ever).

The game is... SO much fun. I love the art style, the mechanics, the collectibles, the levels... It looks amazing on my Q-OLED.

I also bought TOTK S2 edition to play next. I have a PS5 so I don't plan on buying many S2 games. The next Mario is a must, obviously, maybe the next Smash and Zelda games also.

Right now, I'm enjoying so much the new 'Donkey Kong'... I'm taking it very slowly, loving destroying everything and finding secrets here and there.

Starting to wonder if I should have just kept the thing... 😳 😖

Dug out my modded switch lite I got on a whim 2 years ago or so. Barely played anything on it when I got it, only games I finished on it were Signalis and Chrono Trigger 😅. Played some others like Chrono Cross (that I didn't finish due to getting stuck on a boss with bad party and build choices), Hatsune Miku and Slay the Spire (the first one). Currently planning to play Tokyo Xanadu on it while commuting, gonna get some nostalgia of playing the first Cold Steel on my PS Vita back in the day

Wanted to get a carrying case for it so that it doesn't bang around in my backpack but all the stores near me already swapped to NS2 and barely anything for switch 1 and nothing for the lite at all : (

Looks like I will have to pay 5e shipping on a 10e protective case haha.

got a universal case that fits both normal and lite switches. Didn't start Tokyo Xanadu still, but started Metroid Dread and wow , having tons of fun so far. Feels like a modern Super Metroid which is awesome after how relatively boring and uninspired Metroid Fusion felt in comparison.

Welp, with the news of another impending price hike, wonder if I should make like a PS5 pro and panic buy something else (fool me twice shame on me?) it's frustrating because at least when I go into a store I can actually find games I'm interested in available there to purchase right then for switch 1 and 2... For the PS5? Nothing in my area. Amazon? Multiple prices and copies for same games seller roulette and real life loot boxes also with reading about games being slit open and swapped or whatever.

Well yes there is the digital option but what if I don't like the game? Can't sell it or pass it on. Just stick with it. Switch 2 games key card situation I've determined it's marginally a better option because at least the thing could be sold or lent out.

🤔

Welp shame on me... 😳

Picked it up again, the switch 2.
Grabbed Pokemon Legends Z-A
Spyro reignited trilogy
Mario kart 8 deluxe

And I think Spyro might be going back, didn't realize it required a download. No wonder it was 20 bucks. Just probably wait for a sale like I should have and buy it digitally...

Pokemon, this one slipped through. Went in for Pokopia ended up with ZA. Didn't catch it until got home. Not sure if this is going back for Pokopia or just keep it and try it. Still looking into it.

Anyone play this one? Never really got into Pokemon. Was interested in Pokopia since it's like a Minecraft animal crossing cozy game. So not sure about keeping ZA.

Mario kart, think I got the right one. Wasn't really interested in world.
