Quite surprised by the results so far - lot of users aren't too bothered about notch and some saying they've forgotten its even there. Interesting nonetheless.

Personally, I know I wouldn't be able to ignore it if I had the X, it's the first thing I'd notice every time I look at the screen.

Keep your opinions coming guys.

I don’t have an x but I won’t be getting one because of that factor and no home button.

I like how most iPhone X users try to convince themselves they don‘t notice the notch which hides a portion of content in photos, videos and games except when it‘s not and you get huge virtual bezels instead. Oh, I forgot about the home bar which also crosses out text in apps, settings, websites, documents, etc. What a compromised device.

Yes, it would be impossible for anyone to have a different experience than you. I don’t have to “convince myself” as I never worried it would be an issue...and have not found it to be one in practice either.

Not all of us use games or worry about not being able to see the entirely of a photo on our phone (not that we can anyway if full screen because...curved corners).

I don’t like to read text right at bottom of my screen so the home bar is even less of an non-issue. I always scroll so text is in a more comfortable position for me to read.

Quite frankly after just a day, my iPad annoys me because it still has a home button. Thought it would take longer, but truely don’t miss it. The replacement swipes seem very natural already.
Funny, I feel the complete opposite. While I don’t mind the swipe as much as I thought I would (since Apple’s software implementation is spot on), when I use my iPhone 8.....I realize how easy it is to hit a home button. My thumb has to go lower on my iPhone, which can be cumbersome in certain situations.

It’s not a dealbreaker to me, and I love the extra bottom real estate. Can’t say I prefer it.

Even if the corners were sharp, the aspect ratio of the display changed. Our photos wouldn’t be full screen with or without the notch. No matter what it’s zoomed when full screened.

Edge (aka Samsung) displays warp all content. I cannot stand using the Edge phones, that’s something that bothers me immensely. The notch is great, I think it looks really cool in use. Landscape mode needs a software bezel, however.

I knew as soon as I saw it, that it wouldn’t bother me. A lot of the time, people on MacRumors make things more dramatic than need be.

The phone is for everyone but, I am happy. Just hope I don’t drop it.

I miss the bigger battery of my IPhone 7 Plus.

Thanks for the positive comments about the notch. I’m feeling a lot better about myself.

Wait, there’s a notch?

That’s basically how I feel. Didn’t care when they revealed the device, didn’t care when I received it.

i Don’t really care about the notch myself, either way. Although maybe it is just me. But Apple would have did themselves a huge favor if they had made the phone slightly longer. Just enough so that the notch wouldn’t interfere with the screen. That would have made a big difference in how ppl viewed the phone.

Sure..... and feed the “it’s too long” crowd.

Photos in pano mode are shown edge to edge on my iPhone 8 Plus. On the X there is a notch hiding content. If I try to frame a photo correctly I want to be able to view it as intended afterwards. That the notch is covering an area of 16:9 videos which are shown edge to edge on Plus models is also unacceptable to me.

Hi guys,

So many of you have now got your hands on the iPhone X and after much debate, outcry and criticism about the notch, is it really as bad as it has been made out or is it worse than you thought?

What's it like when watching videos, pictures and day-to-day activities? Is it noticeable or have you even found yourself forgetting its even there? Has your perception changed now that you've started using it?

Would be great to hear what your views are now that you actually own one and have started using it in your day-to-day activities.

I was not a ordering iPhone X just because of the notch. Plus I did not find face ID exciting because I have used face ID in other products. But then when time passes and watched more reviews and pictures I decided to buy. Notch is a non-issue now Not noticeable & negligible, got used to it within minutes. I really like browsing on iPhone X

Can't believe so many have had such a problem with it. Haven't really noticed it much at all. The phone is made for portrait use so its really not that important. And even if you are watching video the screen is still huge if you don't have it to all the way to the edges, felt impressive in that mode.

Video on the X without the notch is nearly as small as on the 8. Impressive? Not really. Made for portrait mode? Sure, let‘s ignore the widescreen feature. Who needs that one? Except when you watch video, landscape photos, play games, use navigation software, etc. - where the usable area is tiny. Give me the Plus screen on the X form factor and change the software so that the notch will not protrude the content and I will go for it.

The phone doesn't have the landscape modes that the plus has. Its clearly made to be mostly used in portrait. The video still goes very close to the edges when zoomed out and feels impressive coming from my 7+. The bezels are basically there as somewhere to hold for me. The notch is very small IMO and doesn't impact my use much.

Most X users argue that they prefer the X over the 8+ because the latter has „ugly“ bezels. But then all of a sudden people like you are arguing that software bezels around a video are totally fine and convenient. Well I’d rather use hardware bezels and enjoy 16:9 video full screen. Oh, long live the reality distortion field. :)

I’ll come back when I get my phone (hopefully Monday) and cast my vote, but I fully expect it to be a non-issue. I played with a X at work the other day and it didn’t bother me then.

For me , it just pretty much faded away very quickly. In fact, I watched Blade Runner some late last night...in Dolby Vision HDR by the way...zoomed it in so it filled the entire display...and I just didn’t think about the notch. My 2 cents, FWIW.
The new blade runner???? How?

I don’t find the notch intrusive at all. Don’t feel it affects the overall experience of a great phone. My biggest frustration is apps that have yet to be updated for the screen but that will happen in good time.

Your argument mainly has to do with Apple’s decision to change the aspect ratio, not the notch. Videos are about the same size as the 8 due to Apple’s decision to go longer and only slightly wider. Using either the notch or a theoretical software bezel, your content size would be the same size.

All of my content, including the panos, is not cut into by the notch. There isn’t a situation where the content gets cut off without me zooming in to do so. If you want to argue that Apple should have kept the 16x9 aspect ratio, fine, but the notch portion of your argument is faulted.

Do you even have an X to formulate an opinion?

No, because I don‘t like it. What‘s the use of a big edge to edge screen when there is either a black software bezel or a notch ruining the experience. I want neither. And yes, I would have prefered if they made the X a 16:9 display because almost every video content on Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Vimeo (and my iPhone videos, too) are in that aspect ratio.
I have seen enough reviews where the notch was protruding games, apps and also pano photos - especially in landscape mode (it was mentioned in a review that pano photos get cut off).

So, no, the iPhone X is not for me, unfortunately. Maybe next year there will be a Plus version and Apple comes to senses and will allow an option that apps do NOT embrace the notch. It should be there only for time, Battery, WLAN icons, etc. The area is so small, you can‘t use it properly anyway.

It doesn’t protrude in panoramic photos. In centers the picture.

(Left white space is where the notch is, doesn’t show in a screen capture).

I like the notch and how it looks in portrait, but I can understand the flip side. Design is in the eye of the beholder. That’s why I think Apple should offer a software bezel as an option.

What’s the difference between a software or hardware bezel? Both would be black. Visually, they do the same thing. Not sure I understand this.
