ha i just checked the gameplan site to see what was on tomorrow and what not. well i chose that i was in illinois and it says i should see the michigan - NIU game on ABC. that pissed me off. whatever. as long as i get to see it then thats all that matters. too bad i have to work from 11-8 tomorrow so i have to tape it to a VHS and watch it when i get home.

#4 U of M vs. NIU

could get ugly in the end. NIU is fairly decent. but i think in the second half, it may get out of hand. just hope the wolverines dont underestimate them

instead, why not watch titans at the peak of their game clash in a hard fought awesomly amazing battle:

Rutgers @ Illinois ... ESPN2

i hope we don't loose, it would be a bad way to start the zook era

Ah, winning in overtime. Nice comeback, huh? Go Illini!

I think that TCU is now my second favorite team.

Texas is up on LA-Lafeyette 19-7 because the damn kicker missed 2 PATs...

Ginn and Tonic

I see Willingham got off to a rocky start with the loss to Air Force. And ND beat Pitt setting up a showdown in Ann Arbor.

I believe OSU will roll Texas this saturday behind a huge day from Ted Ginn, Jr. For those who haven't seen this guy play live, he can flat-out fly. Saw him decimate my Spartans last year here...

I expect this weekend's MSU-Hawaii game to be ugly. Last year's finale was loaded with home-cookin' on the big island - it was a borderline joke. State has a pretty potent offense and I wouldn't be surprised if the game gets out of hand and they run it up - a lot. I'll call it right now, they'll score 60. And the bickering has already started.

But East Lansing is strictly small potatoes on the national gridiron scene. They should beat Hawaii and if they can then get out of South Bend the following week with a W, they have 2 weak foes (Ill and IU I think) leading up to the showdown with Michigan.

Man, I'd give anything if they were 5-0 when Michigan comes to town on 10/1. This town would be electric...

Jeez, what the heck happened in Ann Arbor last weekend? I was at a music festival up north and out of the loop.

From my pad here, I can faintly make out the sounds of Average White Band's "Pick Up The Pieces" as it emanates up US-23 and then hangs a left onto I-96.

ND has its home opener this Saturday. Get the feeling the Spartans could be walking into a buzzsaw.

Wow

With my spartans up 38-17, I decided to venture out of my pad and wander up to the pub to witness the route (I don't have a telly and catch my sports old-school via the radio). I figured I'd sip a beer or two and enjoy myself.

Well... two beers and a route turned into 3 pints and a boatload of soul-searching but they prevailed.

MSU is vulnerable against the pass but looking at the schedule ahead, I don't see too many threats. This could be their year. The Big Ten is obviously down.

I think Michigan is ripe for the picking. And if they lose in Madison next week and come into EL 2-2, they will certainly leave 2-3. This will undoubtedly create an atmosphere in AA saturated with nastiness. The alumni will be screeching for Carr's ouster.

But don't bet against Carr. He could easily be 4-1 in two weeks. I remember the game at Minnesota 2 years ago. I believe they were 2-2 and down 21 to start the 4th. They got gutty and didn't lose the rest of the way. That is an example of the greatness of their program.

Pretty quiet on this thread...

Well, Notre Dame sure finished with a flurry. I was flipping back and forth between them and Miami/Clemson, both great finishes, though I am not a fan of any of the teams. Great games though.

Oklahoma is headed for a l-o-n-g season. USC still looks like the team to beat and a cut above everyone else.

Florida and Tennessee are both overrated. Urban Meyer's offense showed its weaknesses against an average SEC defense (did you see Tennessee against UAB?). Speed kills, and this offense leaves Leak hanging too much. He's going to get hurt. We will know more about LSU when they play Tennessee, but I suspect they are overrated too.

Va Tech keeps improving, and so does Vick. I don't think Florida State has enough to hang with them, and neither does Miami.

My Dawgs won't be tested until they get Tennessee in Knoxville in few weeks. Next week, we get Mississippi State, and while every SEC game is a challenge (just ask Ole Miss after playing 3-0 Vandy), the MS dogs are imposters when it comes to real bulldawgs!

Saw a great stat yesterday, of the top 10 schools with people in the NFL, 5 were SEC teams... Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and LSU

I think the others were Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan and somebody else, but I could be wrong about that. I know I got the 5 SEC teams, and I think Florida, Tennessee and Georgia were all in the top 5.

Did you see David Pollack and Odell Thurman for the Cincinnati Bengals?

*Muffled Laughter*

Can't believe that OU got beat again. Mack better not slip up this year. And the even better news is that I think that I may get a chance to dance on up to the Cotton Bowl this year... :D

As for Texas and Rice, well, it was Texas and Rice. Jamaal Charles is a stud, and so is Henry Melton. Assuming Vince stays for his senior year, Texas will have alot to look forward to next year.

The only thing Oklahoma has left this season is to spoil Texas' season again. Look for them to be sky high for that game, but still probably won't be enough.

The Big Ten has been "down so long it looks like up to me..." only not this year. :D

This could be Mack's year down south. I'm stunned by the OU start but the coverage we get here in the midwest is minimal so I'm not sure how much of a surprise their struggles are.

Saw the end of the Pitt-NE game yesterday. You wanna talk about 60 minutes of total disgrace? That was a joke involving 2 joke teams. Pitt was ranked #23 early and that is laughable. Callahan, on the other hand, shouldn't venture out in public in the land of Osborne these days.

Wannstedt reminds me of Gerry DiNardo, a guy who should hang up the clipboard and stay within the safe confines of a studio so as to not further embarass himself.

My girlfriend's parents just moved from Nashville back to Michigan. You gotta admire Vandy's 3-0 start. And looking at their schedule, they could be 5-0 before the, uhhhh, wheels fall off...

My oh my!!!

Fitting end to the wolvies game with Henne basically taking a knee on the haily mary play. Definitely pretty boy lloyd's call - "just take a knee chad... 2-2 with a 3-pt loss on the road at Camp Randall is better than losing by 10 and not covering the spread."

I know with Mich-MSU you can basically throw out the record books (see 1990, 1993, 1995) but man, I think the wolverines are walking into a buzz saw this saturday in EL and that scares me. It scares me because then all the talk is going to start about the Spartans. It should be festive here. Too bad the game starts at noon. I'll be at the Peanut Barrel with the fraulein sipping a bloody mary at 9 AM. Drinks are on me if you show up.

I. Lee out...

The Spartans might be for real. They look awfully strong right now, but that can change for them quickly and often does. The whole Big 10 seems to be in disarray. Michigan is heading south in a hurry.

Did anybody in the Big 12 play this week?

USC showed that they can be bored and flat, and still come back and pound you. Will Cal, Arizona State or Notre Dame be up for the challenge. I have to believe that USC will have to lose sometime.

Va Tech is clearly the class of the ACC right now, so Miami better come with their A game when they visit Blacksburg. They will probably get a Florida State team that will continue to improve in the ACC championship game, but their defense should shut down the Seminoles.

My Dawgs played a lackluster boring game, but still won. Tennessee and LSU on Monday night will tell us a lot. 'Bama is coming on strong and might challenge for the west, but their game with Florida next week will set the tone for both programs for the rest of the year.

The wolvies are snake-bit right now, out of the rankings for the first time since 1998, which is really a testament to their program. And the A2 fans are howling and rabid. But that could all change in 6 days. I mean, Carr has been down before and rallied the troops. All this talk of the wolvies going to the Motor City Bowl is almost unfathomable. I mean, here in EL, a 7-5 season is "pretty good" while an 8-4 and up season is considered "great." But that is not the case 60 miles down the road where the bar is definitely sky high. In all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me the least if Michigan rolls in here next Saturday (12 PM) and just gets it done.

Maybe my feelings are due to the psychological inferiority one gets from playing in the shadows of a top-down great program.

Still, one cannot overlook the consistent over-ratedness of the wolvies on both the local and national level. I mean, the papes here in detroit were not only pumping them but pumping henne as the next great qb. This guy has done nothing, absolutely nothing. Last year, he could just throw it up and Braylon would come down with it. Stanton is the man and I look for MSU to roll this weekend by three touchdowns.

It all reminds me of something a michigan radio guy said 3 years ago when Smoker had MSU 7-1 and Navarre was slipping and stumbling Michigan along. The radio guy said "if you swap Navarre and Smoker... with that michigan defense, I think you're talking national championship in Ann Arbor."

Still, there are games to be played. Like the rankings this week. Good to see a team like Georgia reloading with a top 10 ranking. Some programs just have it...

Lets Face it, Ann Arbor is a whore.

And it may be a "down year" But I think those morons who do the preseason rankings just didnt pick the right teams. The Gophers, Badgers, and Spartans are all lookin pretty good.

A badger is much tougher than wolverine any day of the week. We all saw this coming.

Henne is garbage. My Dad went to a game Michigan game last year, was on the sidelines and stuff because he used to QB there. He talked to the backup, Matt Guitterrez (sp?), and he said he is the man.

I guess Matt is an amazing QB, and was supposedly going to start over Henne last year, but he got hurt a week before the season started. Henne has a strong arm, but it isn't accurate. He also is NOT a leader, watch him next game, see if he rallies the men.

That's pretty impressive that your dad played ball at Michigan, something to definitely hang your hat on. From what I remember, Guttierrez was going to start up until the day before their opener last year but he supposedly tweaked something in practice and the rest is history.

Who knows, maybe he'll start this Saturday? But I can't see carr making such a bold move and you especially don't want to put a kid in under these circumstances. But if it rallies the players...

The QB has to be a leader. If the players don't want to lay it on the line for him, the team is done. All the great teams have had solid field generals and leadership cannot be tought. Some guys have it and some don't.

Well, the LSU-Tennessee game was two games in one!. What a difference a half makes, and what a colossal melt down. Les who?? Not a good start for the new coach, and what a disappointment for the Bayou area. The fiasco at the end of the half and not getting points was brutal and came back to bite them. And what was up with Ainge and that INT for a TD in the end zone. U-G-L-Y. Do they still have a quarterback controversy now?

It's better for my Dawgs for Tennessee to get the win, it looks better when we beat them in Knoxville  *crosses fingers*
