I presume everyone noticed that the title sequence made no mention of the journey to Earth.

Ack! No I didn't... and now I'm really disturbed. I hope that was an oversight. For me BSG was TopGun in space looking for a safe harbor named Earth. Without the feeling of running from a superior force I don't think the show would work for me.

The beauty of these episodes is that they raise so many questions... You did notice the religious Cylon's conversation with Ellen Tigh? The whole resistance has been shaped by factions within the Cylon leadership.

What happened to the marital interaction between Ellen and the Colonel? Wouldn't sleeping with the enemy to get your husband out of jail (which, face it - is a well worn idea) cause a bit of a relationship rift? Add his loss of an eye - and possibly his sanity - and dont you think they might be yelling at each other a bit more than usual?

You think this whole kinder friendlier Cylon is just a ruse to get BSG & BSP back into their hands? Why race after them when you can have them come to you?

Abulia, I'm having a hard time understanding how you're so upset with all the "blatant" real-world parallels when the whole show had those parallels running from the beginning (genocide, nuclear holocaust, clash of civilizations/religions). Like it or not, part of the show's appeal comes from its emotional resonance in a post 9/11 world, so we shouldn't be entirely surprised the show hits so close to home.

The most important issue in my mind is whether anybody's acting out of character or not; in my opinion, the answer is no. Not yet, anyway. I'm a little concerned about what they're going to do to Admiral Adama, though, because they keep on alluding to the fact that he has to own up to a grave mistake from the past.

That was fracking great! And nary a flashback in sight, but I guess some people are still hard to please... :p

It was good - and I'm glad I watched the webisodes on scifi.com to get up to date on the resistance stuff.

Interesting how they didn't give a preview for the next episode, but showed scenes from the rest of the season.

Roselin was in them, so obviously she's not dead yet :D

Except then she wouldn't have needed cancer treatment.

Or, perhaps she wasn't a Cylon initially, but now she is... When Gaius injected that Cylon blood into her to cure her, perhaps the blood cells started dividing and multiplying throughout her system. With Cylon blood in her, would she now test positive on Baltar's Cylon Detector?

Just thought I'd throw that out there for fun. :D

I found it pretty interesting that Six and Boomer (the one on New Caprica, not the Galactica one) seemed genuine in their desires to start a new life with humans on the planet but their voices were squashed by the others who were hellbent on making the humans subservient to their every whim. Starting with the arc in Downloaded I had thought that the two of them had gained support in their ideals but it seems like they simply got overpowered.

I wonder (and suspect) if that this is going to be the beginning of an idealogical split in the Cylons that will come to light later in this season of the next. You could tell that Six's and Boomer's hands were tied in anything they tried to do to counter the others. Just look at what the character played by Lawless did, she shot Six right in the head when she became more disobedient. I'm hoping that somehow they gain more support in the coming episodes but I have no clue.

Now we have a show firmly rooted on a planet where we'll be stuck with resistance fighting stories that are going to draw (eg. mimic) the situation in Iraq. It's going to be pretty easy to see what comes "next." (I'd go into more detail but want to keep this thread spoiler free.)

Iraq?

While watching the show, I couldn't stop thinking about the Nazi's occupation of western europe.

  • Secret police run by collaborators? - Check
  • Government run by straw men ratifying the occupier's orders - Check
  • Resistance dommed to failure - Check
  • Delation - Check
  • Mass murder - Check
  • Medical experiments on unwitting subjects - Check
  • Weird guys wearing strange hats and scary leather trench coats - Betcha, check (Dean Stockwel:)

I think Caprica Six and Caprica Boomer are the only humane ones, they are the only ones that see their real goal, to start a life coexisting with humans, just like you said. I find it funny that Caprica Six and Caprica Boomer didn't kill D'Anna again to make sure their voices were heard, but like TV Guide says, D'Anna is like a mother, the rest of the Cylon race listens to her.

Anybody else feel that the Cylons will go into civil war since there are two sides in the Cylons? Although I highly doubt it, it's still possible.

BSG Newbie on deck

So I just spent the last 2 days watching all of the miniseries, season 1, and 2. I'm hooked and sad I gotta wait for the DVD release (no cable tv and dialup) for season 3.
I was kinda hoping after the murdered "sleeper" Boomer was reborn and still holding onto her humanity we would get an innocent version of Sharon back, but if she's accepted her roll as a Cylon hero, even if she means well, that dream is dead. Does Caprica Number Six still have visions of the cool calm Baltar in her head? Is she still in love with Baltar now that she's met the real nutso version?
Bamber was the one who was displeased with one of the plot threads this season. He doesn't think we should be getting to know the Cylons. They should remain an ominous unseen threat.

Paralles and thus far

For all those stirred up by parallels of Iraq, Nazis and so on. So first I ask, what is wrong with that? [NOTHING- they say if we don’t remember are history we are doomed to repeat it] Seconded, I wonder if you believe that the writers of the show are trying to make the tactics seem wrong (or maybe right). [THEY ARE NOT] But in actuality they are just trying to make you uncomfortable and think! All the ongoing themes in BSG can be found outside of this show from ether the present or past history. And I applaud them for making things ugly. It is raw, dark (with glimmers of hope), dirty, and imperfect like we are. There is no “making things look pretty” (except for a few of the actresses) Yes this is a fantasy world but very grounded in human true human nature

On another subject, I was just cringing when I saw what they did to Starbuck. And also I don’t think they are going to stay on the planet all season long, they are already trying to get off (the story line is still moving very fast). If the show had just been about those on the planet I might off thought otherwise. Lastly it is kind of sad to see all the work BSG did on destroying the robots gone. Any ways, the **** has hit the fan, and it looks like where back to square one.

I’ll be very impressed to see if writers can convincingly get them off the planet without making the story seem unbelievable.

Precisely. I have thought the same thing - so what?!? I don't understand why drawing parallels to something is a bad thing, especially when it makes you think...

With the next episode being a 2-parter and being called "Exodus", I'm thinking this might start happening sooner rather than later as well... ;)

I liked the first 2 eppisodes very much, i really hope that the rest of the season stays at that level, i also would like to see some more fighting and cylone but kicking from Adama.

I heard somewhere that Bamber was on record as saying that he felt the Cylons weren't scary enough anymore. We've got to know them too well, how they operate, what they're about, etc. and as a result, aren't really "afraid" of them anymore. Hopefully this changes in Season 3, as I see where he's coming from...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I was just stating that the whole setting was highly reminiscent of WWII, and very far from Iraq circa 2006.

I love the way season 3 is turning, less space opera, a bit more plot, then go all space-opey when Pegasus returns to new caprica with an army of transcended terrans to clean-up the mess ;)

ps: Yay for bad math jokes. Raphaël says hi :)

Season 3 is now on iTunes.

sorry, this is a little unrelated... but does anyone else think that the quality of episode 1 season 3 on iTMS sucks? Especially for being a gig. Looks to me like they upscaled from a crappy resolution or something.
