I liked this episode, but I didn't love this episode. Some of this is due to the inherent structural problem of Helo's decision to break his word with Athena for duty's sake. Considering that he once went against duty to protect Athena and their baby, this seems like another example of characters acting against their previous selves to serve the writers.

It wasn't Athena - she's still in the brig on Galactica. It was just another 8 with the majority of Athena's memory since the last download... so Helo wasn't really acting against his previous self, as the wasn't any (real) bond between the two characters.

But I enjoyed the whole episode. Things are definitely increasing in pace, and the love story between Adama and Roslin feels real for their characters. Haven't seen the promo for next week (damn Sky leaves it off the end of the episode) but as it's the mid-season cliffhanger, bring it on!

I thought the whole thing was contrived. He will be a good prez, therefore I can not let it happen, etc. In fact the whole idea that the two of them would lock themselves in a room to select a candidate instead of some form of committee doing it just did not ring true.

I think it's not necessarily that he would be a good president, but that he's too perfect for the job which makes him wonder, is he really the perfect person? or is he a master manipulator and presenting an false front to feed his ambition? Is he going to lead the human race to destruction through a path led to via his idealism or does he have some grander nefarious plan? I think it's just plain skepticism combined with his guilt. He cannot believe anyone is that perfect for the job therefore ulterior motives must come into play.

In more ways than one...

Colonel Tigh, Fleet Officer, Kama Sutra practitioner. ;)

Could this be something new caused by the lobotomising of the Raiders by the #1s earlier in this series? I'm still certain that the changes to the automaton Cylons is going to come back and bite the skin-jobs on the arse before the end, maybe even wipe them out entirely leaving the humans against the old-style Cylons as with the original series.

Interesting point, but I'm beginning to think that Heavy Raiders are very different from Raiders, which are just overgrown Centurions. Athena used a Heavy Raider to fly Kara and Helo away from Caprica, Leoben used a HR to meet Kara on the Demetrius, etc.

Yes, I want to know if Baltar is able to get the Centurions religion, too. :D

That scene was great, because I had a feeling the Centurion was considering the implications of Baltar's monologue in a far different way than Baltar thought.

Frack, they found Earth! And there's nobody there? At least they didn't land in the 70's like the last Battlestar. :D

And did you see Caprica's hand on Tigh at the end? Awww....

Now Deanna clearly said (true?) that only four cylons were in the fleet. At first I thought one of them was on the basestar, which would allow her to lie, but I think they were actually all on the Galactica at the time. So is the last Cylon waiting for them on Earth?

so how does that go on? when is the next episode? next friday?

anyway: who is number 5? who sent the viper with kara? who set up the markers to earth? what is the deal with the human-cylon children? what happens with the rest of the cylons?

Sorry, I meant the original BSG series... IIRC basically they finally find Earth and they end up in basically present day Earth, which can't help them fight the Cylons, and then it turns out that something about Earth makes the colonials sick, so they can't really stay on the planet...blah blah blah. :p

But this is much better. So many questions. I know... I'm really enjoying this season. :)

CRAZY episode, I couldn't believe it when they showed up to earth! I never saw the original series, but I heard them finding earth then was utter crap. I suppose if since they did find it, the "everything in ruins" is the way to go...

When is the next episode?

ONly a few of us were even alive back then to have watched it and cringed at the bad disco (I love REAL disco mind you, the underground stuff) that played in the backgrounds. Man those leather jackets & bell-bottoms where something. If you recall the two main characters changed as well; wonder if that'll occur in the next season IF they go another one. I did, as a kid, loved those flying cycles they had.

5th Cylon is Kara, of course - unless something changed the last 5/6 episodes. She's the harbinger of death no?!

I too am curious how the children come into this, and how they'll co-exist to rebuild Earth, or will it all begin a-new and they'll fled back to Cobol/Caprica and the other colonies.

I just hope the focus of the creators and writers is MORE focused and awe inspiring as the first 3 seasons.

I watched the originals as re-runs in the early 80s when I was a little one...

As for Kara, she's the harbinger of death, yes, and she's been to Earth, yes, but it isn't clear that she's a Cylon. She may have just been protected by the Cylons. She's definitely one of the top possibilities, but I think Roslin still is too, Deanna's joke aside. And maybe still Baltar. And then the new possibility based on what Deanna said, that the last Cylon is not from the Colonial fleet.

I thought the 5th Cylon was going to turn out to be the fighter that was pointing to earth via radar... it would've been funny to see the red eye hovering back & forth on it. ;)

the 5th cylon must be outside the fleet. who would have the possibility to give kara a new viper and get her to earth and back (or brainwash her to believe she was there) from within the clolnial fleet?

and i can't be someone in the cylon fleet because deanna wouldn't need the humans to find earth then.

my guess it will be some "lord of cobol" that shows up because you would have to explain how the cylons evolved, some cylons got to earth, some cylons got undercover in the fleet for 30 years. also there must be a reason why the cylons are so after the human/cylon children. that is somehow programmed into them. maybe the last cylon is the programmer of the cylons.

leaves still one question: when the frack is the next episode?

Quite honestly, Galactica is losing it. I've loved this show from day one because of the politics and universal themes. Now it's descending into geeky sci-fi BS. I'm really finding myself not caring about it so much anymore. It's a good thing it's ending. It would have been sad to see this slowly burn out, although it seems to be already. OK, go ahead and flame me now.

EDIT Ok, just watched the new one, it's getting better again.

Was that the final episode?

This episode was the last of the "half season," but there's another half to the season yet to come. In characteristically surreal fashion, it sounds like the second half of the season will wait till next year, meaning it would be what would've been called another season altogether ten years ago. :p

This is what the Wikipedia episode guide says ... Episode 4x10 / 412 mentioned below is the one that aired yesterday.

As the second half of Season 4 was halted from production due to the writers' strike in America, the remainder of the season will air in 2009. To bridge the gap between episodes 10 and 11 (412 and 413) Moore has stated that there will be a third set of webisodes which will be similar in purpose to The Resistance which aired between Season 2 and 3.[5] In addition, there has been recent talk about producing up to 3 more Battlestar Galactica television movies which could be produced and air before (or possibly after) Season 4's remaining episodes are released. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty as to whether or not the current cast will be available.[6] Also, it is said that these movies, if produced, will not take place after the Season 4 series finale but instead focus on earlier untold events similar to how Razor went through the events of the Pegasus. [7]

I heard that this episode was intended to serve as the last episode of BSG, should the writer's strike not be resolved. Imagine if this last episode was the end of the series.

What does "should the writer's strike not be resolved" really mean, though, anyways? Was US TV ever going to become an empty wasteland like the Earth of BSG, bereft of any actually worthwhile content because there are no screenwriters, playing only reruns and Fox News reports? :D

so in summary we have to wait till 2009? Man, that's just like Nehalem. Should we watch the webisodes now or wait till 2009. Maybe that gives them a chance to come up with good ideas how to explain the various open questions. Man, that sounds like the posts with feature lists for the next iphone. I'm spending too much time on macrumors.

I figured the 5th would be one of their hostages. "There are 4 in your fleet" (because one of them is already here!)

So we've still got Baltar, Rosalyn and Helo... which would make Hera a 13th Cylon (along with Tigh's kid).

Unless the 5th was one that died, a la Callie. Didn't RDM state that the 5th was not in the Last Supper photo?

All I can say is that fracking wuss better not have been a cylon. If she downloads and another Callie shows up, I'm boycotting BSG. :D

Haha, yeah I hear ya - her or Billy. :p ;) Even Ellen would be better than those two! :D

Or, how about to really throw a wrench in everything, it's Zack!

:p :D
