Blimey... that was unexpected. :D

I found this over at The Boston Globe's episode review. Thought i'd share:

(From reader) It was an awesome episode, but I'm not entirely convinced that they actually found our Earth, or their final destination. For a few reasons.
First, notice that all the land masses in the shots of "Earth" are obscured by clouds. In "Crossroads II", you can clearly make out the Florida peninsula in the final shot of the episode, whereas here any identifying land masses are conveniently not visible.
Second, the moon, a dead giveaway, is not seen. This was also shown in "Crossroads II". Here, it is avoided.
Third, David Eick made some carefully worded comments earlier this year, something to the effect of "well, we've shown Earth [in Crossroads II], and the Fleet will find a place they believe is Earth..." (or something like that).
Fourth, the Pythian prophecy said that the "dying leader" would not survive to reach the "promised land". Roslin was there on "Earth" in the final scene. So either she's not the dying leader, or that's not really Earth, or Earth is not the "promised land" after all.
Finally, they still have 12 episodes to go (not 10, they announced that there will be two more episodes in season 4.5). Simply finding out who the final Cylon is is not going to be enough to fill out those 12 episodes. There's got to be more coming.
Yes, chances are that it's Earth. But there was just enough there to seemingly plant some doubt, and it seemed quite intentional to me.

RDM has come out and said that the city they landed in, the one they were standing in, was Sydney. What's one thing that most people associate with that city (the Opera House).

They landed on Earth. Whether there's survivors from this holocaust is yet to be determined.

There either has to be a moon colony or people living underground, people who the Galactica crew and Cylons will now help through the destruction like in those Greg Bear books. Otherwise they may as well just go back to New Caprica.

Question: back in the 2nd episode of the mini-movie, someone left a note informing Adama about the other 12 cyclons, who left that note?

It wasn't Athena - she's still in the brig on Galactica. It was just another 8 with the majority of Athena's memory since the last download... so Helo wasn't really acting against his previous self, as the wasn't any (real) bond between the two characters.

But I enjoyed the whole episode. Things are definitely increasing in pace, and the love story between Adama and Roslin feels real for their characters. Haven't seen the promo for next week (damn Sky leaves it off the end of the episode) but as it's the mid-season cliffhanger, bring it on!

She is!

Sometimes it's hard to remember where everyone is. Part of what threw me was the other 8 was running around in a Colonial flight suit.

Never mind.

At the time the only person who could have presumably left that note was Baltar, due to the knowledge imparted to him by Caprica Six.

Ah ok, I have not thought of that, I always assumed Baltar wasn't interested in any way of trying to help Galactica

The Battlestar Wiki has some interesting info on their page for this episode. Look under "Analysis" on that page, particularly the fourth and fifth items under "Earth."

Very interesting, thanks for the link.

He's always been torn in terms of his allegiances/priorities, just in different ways. At the beginning of the series I would say he was more prone to this sort of thing than he is now...

If it's not Earth, Starbuck would have known since she saw it from space. She also knew the planets in the Sol system. She referenced a ring planet (Saturn, assumingly). If it wasn't Earth and the Sol syatem, Galactica would have known.....

In the original series, the fleet encountered a planet they thought was Earth, but it wasn't (it was called Terra).

Since it seems the re-imagined one is loosly following the original, I would imagine that they are at Terra, not Earth....

Of course it's Earth. The first thing Adama ordered Gaeta to do after arrival was check that the constellations matched those seen in the temple on Kobol.

And Gaeta in response said (and I quote) "the visible constellations are a match".

So how long do we have to wait now for the next set of mini-sodes and then Season 4.5? I'm guessing 2009... :(

And furthermore, after this season of Doctor Who there won't be another full season for a while either, just a handful of specials. Double :( :( for me...

;)

Well, in the original series, they encountered a number of Earth-like planets (outside the 13 colonies). Plenty with human civilizations on them....

I'm pretty certain they found Earth, given all the clues.

And, yes, I'm glad that this is not going to turn out like Galactica 1980. No modern day Earth, please. I refuse to consider Galactica 1980 as a part of the original Battlestar Galactica....which it's technically not, anyways.
