Both true and false. Women can get large bulky muscles without taking any "supplements" I am an example. When I was in top shape , my chest was 43" and B cups, by upper arms would not fit into womens t-shirts. But hey I could bench press 280lbs ( now only 230lbs) . And no I was not trying to body build but rather going for strenght. I did push ups everyday , at least 100. It is better if you do every second day but in the military not much choice when doing morning PT.

Now my wrists hurt too much to do regularly but I did try

I got to 83 before my right wrist gave out. Now my arms feel rubbery. Fun.

I'm not bulking up but I have definition that I never had before. The only negative is that my boobs seem smaller  (You can't seem to order where fat is going to leave your body)

Too true!! I have that happen to me before when i diet, so i stay away from extreme dieting now. When you lose weight, the fat should leave from the place that last gained it. So if you gained weight on your waist last, then it should go from there first. However, if you exercise, whichever muscle that you're working would become more toned.

I fear that i will not be able to complete my target. Initially, from 21, i got to 37 after 1 1/2 week but 2 days ago i lot it. I do not know why but extreme fatigue came on. Now i cannot even complete 1. It is really weird and i cannot see why not. My body doesn't particularly hurt except for my side ab things.

Rest a bit and try in some time, you're body is exhausted.

Yeah i'm up to 20 now:D! 10 more to go... hope i can make it. I got 3 weeks left. Keep up the good work everyone!

Yeah but after 2 days and nothing has improved. Its not like i was doing anything particularly strenuous either

Maybe you went too fast. Do some other exercises (core, shoulder etc), it can help with your performance. Do some arm stretches also. Eat well, get enough protein and relax. It should pass.

ah but the advantage is once your chest muscles get stronger and more defined your boobs will look bigger and perkier - with out the back pain of bigger boobs. Plus with stronger chest your posture will improve and you will look taller and "shapelier".

Fat loss - well what are boobs besides mammary glands and fat?

I was once at 15% body fat ( 5% for those who use the other measuring way), I had absolutely no boobs, but still had a tummy protruding. pissed me right off- especially when I did my annual exam and the doctor told me I was 35lbs overweight. based on their Standard Height/Weight charts.

I'm ready to improve my pushups. I was actually really surprised when I did my first ones. I did 45 in a row. This is great because in high school I couldn't do 5 in a row. I don't know what my final goal is but I want to improve by 10 every week!

It's nearing the end of August, how's everyone doing on their challenge? On a good day, I can do 30 (which is my goal). I'm gonna try again tomorrow and maybe video tape myself to see if I'm doing everything properly. Anyone know how to use the iSight to videotape stuff?

I cannot complete my target, i have now screwed up the ligaments in my right wrist and cannot even do one. It is really annoying as i actually got the total up a fair amount and i did get some definition

That sucks ®îçhå®?. I hope your wrists get better soon. I find I can't go too hard with pushups or I end up straining something too. I'm trying to do them each day but have to skip a day every now and then.

Awww that's too bad ®îçhå®?. But you did improve and built some muscles, so that's all that matters. Plus, you can always try again when you've healed. It can be the winter challenge :D. Get in shape for Christmas parties!! Or get rid of weight in the aftermath of Christmas parties.;)

I'm part of the MacRumors Nike+ runners group and have found it very motivational to increasing my mileage. So I'm also joining the push-up group!

I'm currently doing only 20 consecutive push-ups, put planning on getting to 100 using this very good site:
http://hundredpushups.com/index.html

I also just ran into this LA Times article which says push-ups are the "near-perfect strength exercise":

http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-he-matters21-2008jul21,1,7214845.story

Keep it up!

A while ago, I could do 55 trying hard, 40 easily.
I've been using the 100 Push-Ups app thing on my iPhone, and it doesn't seem to be helping much. Arguably, I'm only on the 3rd week right now, and with a flu, I'm gonna be taking a break.
My goal is 100 straight.

The important thing with Pushups is form. It's not doing any good if you flop like an inchworm.

Put your arms out wide, and count to three slowly going down, and then back up. Doing them slowly helps you watch your form a bit more.

hmmmm 10 seems to be my limit, pathetic i know.. i consider myself to be pretty athletic, i play a lot of sport - but strength never was my thing.

im aiming for 100, ill try increase it by 10 every week. seems doable.!

nice stamina :p

Thanks :)

I'm a pretty inactive person, but for the last few months I've been doing push ups and pull ups like crazy in my spare time. When I started I could only do two or three sets of 7. Now I'm getting into bike riding so maybe I'll be able to do even more sets.
