Apple probably expect you to use iCloud Drive, that is why they have dropped prices on iCloud storage. I'm going to get a iPad Pro when it comes out and if the 128GB storage isn't enough i will be very tempted to get the 50GB for £0.79 a month which is crazy cheap.

crazy slow, as well

Use Goodreader, it really is a great app. I use it to sync to servers, hold folders and folders of files, it basically turns your iPad in to a wired/wireless hard drive as well as syncing with a huge range of cloud services.

Additionally iCloud can now be used as a file storage mechanism with it having its own app in iOS 9.

No matter what iPad you'll never be able to plug a USB2/3 in, ever, Apple's/everyone's method of file transfer is wireless in the present and future.

You are correct and there is little doubt that Apple will ever "allow" it tablet hardware to be much more than an iPad.

As far as the Apple cloud, no thanks. We are all on DropBox which works cross platforms and has served us for years.

USB sticks are a thing of the past much like CD's, who wants to have to keep an ugly virus harboring USB stick lying around, apologies if this comes across a bit harsh

It's not harsh but a tad dramatic. USB sticks don't harbor viruses unless their user made it so. For a pro level device there really isn't a reason they couldn't have thrown "some" hard connectivity options into it. I get the whole cloud thing but that's not always the best or safest solution. I dunno, just can't get past feeling that this pro iPad is really just a bigger version of what I have now. Sure, the hardware is meatier and the screen is bigger but on a day to day basis it isn't going to be that different. Oh well.

was sure i was gonna get an iPad pro but the lack of 256/512gb option really put me off. bought a retina macbook instead now, gonna hold onto it for a few years until the iPad pro has matured somewhat (especially the pro app market)

I too am not a huge fan of iCloud for anything other than iOS device backup and Pixelmator cross sync. Although that is habit more than quality of service.

Look in to Goodreader. I have a Dropbox account that syncs to it, open the app, click sync and the app downloads files/folders(and can also delete depending on sync settings). First sync took a while - 40 GB on a 128GB iPad but since then incremental downloads are painless.

only the file manager included into the icloud drive and thats it. Apple wants you everything to do wireless
so i guess icloud drive is just the beginning and in the next iOS and OSX will be the easiest way to copy paste cut file between icloud osx and ios

It's also missing a Mouse

The fact that there's now a keyboard option means the iPad Pro is intended to create the desktop experience for desktop apps. But that "Pro" experience is crippled without the OPTION of traditional desktop input.

But with all the above features it is still missing... colorful Smart Covers.
Maybe they simply didnt announce Smart Covers because they're trying to push people to buy the keyboard.

Personally, i have no desire to buy a Keyboard Cover because if I'm going to type then I'll just use a more comfortable Apple Bluetooth keyboard. So that presents me with two problems.

1) How does the iPad Pro stand on a desk.
2) How do I travel and protect the screen.

Sure, there's 3rd party solutions but that just doesn't feel very Apple-like to say "If you want to watch movies on this then go buy an easel."

There are smart covers for the iPad Pro, just scroll down to the bottom of the page on the iPad Pro and it says about them.

I agree but we work in the field and there are many times we are so far out we have no carrier or WiFi service so we need to store over 6K files on the device.
This and. Not everyone wants to subscribe to streaming services. It would be nice to be able to have files on an SD card or USB.

Of course. If only airdrop works more than one in 10. A file system would be better. And some people deal with files in GB's which is still a bit better using a fast flash drive.

It is also missing a real file/folder system for the user to save files to use when offline. It is missing a SD card reader and USB port also.
Get a freaking laptop. Theres a reason this is a thin, light tablet. Seriously this argument is 5 years old. Crying about not having a file system?

I wonder if you could jailbreak this thing and run a hacked Windows 10 or OS x

Just like the old days. That would be fun.

Remember right before Boot Camp when we had those hacks? Man that was a hoot. :D

Honestly, I want USB for more than just thumb drives and the like. Being able to control a telescope mount and camera is still largely USB for astrophotography. What I want is an answer there.

A USB C port with the Lightning would be nice. Or if "balance" is an issue for docks, two flanking the Lightning port. Compatibility with existing stuff, and forward compatibility with more devices that Pros want.

Or get a surface pro 4. It's the reason I got a surface pro 3 earlier this year. Now that I see the iPP. I made the right decision.

Exactly, dont have a whinge, just get the right tool for the job. If you absolutely need the clutter and have to use windows go with the surface or some other device, but if you prefer the power of iOS and can leave the old outdated ways behind then go with iPad.

We do not want a "FREAKING LAPTOP"!

My field people are walking while working in the field and we find a laptop kinda clumsy like some people's posts!

!

Consider maybe your workflow could change to suit an iPad. I know there are lots of things that are hard on iOS, and more difficult than in OS X, but I need to hear one example of a real world problem that cannot be done with an iPad. Please give me one thing so I can go away and question by blind belief in iOS.

If you have a "blind belief in iOS", there is little anyone can do to convince you otherwise.
