Don't worry about it – it's snobbery, pure and simple. Already this morning I'm reading comments about how we'll be devaluing the Premier League next season and how a club like us doesn't deserve to be there. If people genuinely think like that, then bollocks to the. we don't care.

You fully deserve to be up there, you were unlucky not to go straight up.

In the good old days (when I was a lad :)), you would have got automatic promotion for finishing in third place anyway.

As a Middlesbrough fan, does that mean we're now rivals? I would guess we're probably the closest Premier League club to you guys.
I suppose we are. <points and mocks MOFS> ;)

You know, there's a certain irony about this thread. When you started it nearly three years ago, you posted...

...I thought we'd start a Premier League site. NB: This is an English Premier League thread...

...and for the last three years I've naughtily been prattling on about our non-Premier League club. Now, finally we've been promoted to the top division for the first time ever, mere days before this thread is scheduled to be closed down and replaced with a new, shiny thread officially covering all of the English leagues.

Heh. :p

Bollocks to them. You fully deserve to be in the premiership, just wish we were good enough to still be there.

It's the same mentality as the Ireland call-up, people are afraid of change and the status quo being challenged. I'm sure that Westwood wouldn't have been called up if his performances and abilities didn't merit it – and it's a big feather in the cap of Carlisle United.

And thanks for the congratulations and good wishes, everyone. A few years back it was Mansfeild and Hartlepool we wee facing, now it's Manchester United and Liverpool. Blimey.

Your right, but for someone who I've never even heard of to come out and say something so stupid really got to me. After his [Westwood's] performances this season he is there purely on merit. He was called up to the Ireland squad last week, and turns out it could have been an England call up after Peterborough 'keeper Joe Lewis was called up by Mr Capello. Never mind.

As for not deserving to be in the Premiership... Leeds fans per chance?

+1:eek:

Being a Boro fan, we always get flak for not being a so-called "big club". The criteria seems to be based on past history and money. Well who gives a stuff? Otherwise Blackpool would have to be included in this group! The point is as a club the least Stoke, Hull and West Brom can do is show more ambition than Derby. Taking the money and running does not enamor clubs to football fans or pundit alike.

You Hull fans will know better than me, but I think the harsh reality of the Dean Windass situation is that he has just fired you into the Premier League but surely has to be released. Fact is, he's 39 and just isn't going to do a job for Hull in the PL. If you want to make a effort of staying in this league he has to be the first to go I'm afraid. That boy Frazer Campbell won't be staying either. ;)

Regardless of whether Windass is past his sell by date for Premiership play, I just watched the goal on youtube for the first time and it was an absolute cracker. :D

He looks like such a thug, too. I would love to see him headbutt Ronaldo next season, Zidane-style.

Come on Doncaster!! 1 - 0 up and withstanding the pressure :)

EDIT : And congratulations to them!! Leeds remain in League One, which hopefully means we play at Elland Road next season

Heh. :p

Just looked it up. Middlesbrough is about 60 miles from Kingston-upon-Hull, whereas Manchester is about 80 miles. I can feel the rivalry intensifying already.:p

I have to say I set this up 'cause of the Liverpool FC thread (there are a lot of 'em around, some even from the UK!:p). I guess it was done because I'm proud to support an unfashionable team that only its mother could love. Cheers to everyone who's posted (yes, even our favourite Subbuteo player or BAR engineer) and hopefully next season will be a great season for all our teams.*

PS: Now the "top" two cities in the "worst cities in the UK both have a Premier League team! Guess we know where our priorities lie!

*There're enough clubs NOT represented on these boards - Fulham springs to mind - that this COULD work out!

Well, I'm a Fulham fan (along with my new 'second team' Brentford), and I'll try to represent us more :)

Sentimentality aside, the question does have to be asked of how effective he'll be in the top flight next season. He's at the point now where he lasts for about 60-70 minutes before being substituted, actually that hasn't worked out too badly – he knackers out his defender, then we bring Folan on in his place and the younger player gets a goal. Hurrah!

I think Dean Windass will be at the club next season, but I think it might be in a reduced capacity as a player. The mind is more than willing, but he is knocking on 40. He's certainly earned the right to at least try to prove he has what it takes, though.

Actually, as I'm typing this he's just been interviewed on Sky Sports News – he's said he's determined to go on for one more season. I wouldn't want to argue with him.

Oh, and well done Doncaster Rovers as well – vanquishing dirty, dirty Leeds this afternoon. Heh. :D

I hope that we can remain friends next season Jaffa. When you were a fan of the Plucky Championship Hull Tigers™ it was nice to root for you, kind of like watching some kids play soccer. Now that you'll be an adversary in the Greatest League in the World™ the gloves will have to come off.

:D

Indeed. Prepare yourself to be mauled by the Tigers next season. :D

Meanwhile, Leeds United fans were apparently chanting 'We all hate Hull' during their game today. Given that they've always maintained they have no rivalry with us because we're a little insignificant club and are simply beneath them, this amused me greatly.

Bless 'em. :D

Ace. Chuffed for Donny Rovers though. Short of a Carlisle win thats the next best. Get to see Leeds at The Brunt again next season. Hopefully Stockport will do a job tomorrow and we'll see them as well.

I am so pooping myself right now

Maybe he'll operate in a reverse of his current role - coming on for the last half hour or so.

I can relate to that. ;)

Shamefully, we're off to the victory parade tomorrow so I won't be able to enjoy watching a famous County victory live on the telly. However, my Jaffatar™ has borrowed himself a little hatters kit off his cousin Eccles Cake, so he'll be wearing that to show our support.

Good luck for tomorrow. :)
That's so cool. Can I temporarily steal that (after you've worn it of course)? :D

Be my guest. Of course, if you use it on here people might think you're me – which might be a bit confusing but your aceness rating would go through the roof. :D ;)
They'd probably see me as some form of jaffa stalker, like a munchkin :)

Well thats it for this thread I suppose. It is now time to start a 2008-09 Football Thread (and watch all the Yanks want to talk about Lady-Boy version of rugby).

I suppose a Euro 2008 thread wouldn't go a miss but that would nit be too much interest to the UK members of this board

Well I suppose this is good by to "The Premier League Thread", bring on the Premier League. :D

EDIT: I made a "Football 2008-09" thread here. Enjoy!
