I haven't posted on here for a while but I though I would put my head above the parapet for a change.

With regard to the save for Van Der Sar, I was reading an article by a sports scientist which says that goal keepers never 'save' penalties, strikers (or whoever) only ever miss them. There are certain areas of the goal that a 'keeper could never get to but players often put them just to the right or left and a 'keeper has a 50% chance of saving it.

Well, welcome back then! :)
Glad I triggered you to post again. ;)

I think you are right. The goalkeeper can influence the player, by taking a bit more time, or jump from left to right across the goal line, or even make stupid body movements (like Dudek a couple of years ago..) to put the penalty taker off.
But usually the enormous pressure alone will do it for most players. Some just simple give the ball maximum velocity, and hope it somehow finds the net. Others whack it right through the middle expecting the goalie to dive one way or another....
Only a happy few can really take that penalty such that is lands in the corner with enough speed to leave the goalkeeper without a chance. These guys are ice cold...

There's a Leeds fan I've had cause to encounter who has tickets for Saturday as well, so he can 'make a weekend of it'. I can only assume he's not been able to get his hands on tickets for your final as well.
Possibly, although hopefully he'll consider lowly 'Dale and County beneath his mighty gaze. With League One being so far beneath them goodness knows what they must think about League Two.

Such matters are beneath them, obviously. There are probably a few Leeds fans who haven't heard of half the teams they've played this season. :D

Meanwhile, I've been feeling bloody nervous all day. It's horrid and I'm just wanting to get this match played now.

I take it you're going down in the morning then. Best of luck. I'll be watching it on Sky and let's just say I won't be supporting Bristol :)

And I know exactly what you mean about the nerves, only we've still got two full days of it left

Ta muchly. We are indeed setting of at daft o'clock for what is very probably the most important 90 minutes of football we've played in the last 104 years.

Bloody hell. I'm even more nervous now.

Good luck.

If Hull get promoted, I promise I'll take a trip up to come and see Hull vs. Arsenal. And perhaps you could venture down on the train or something to visit our beautiful ground

Bet Jaffa is estatic right about now.

That man Windass volleys the ball into the net.

Hull with one foot in the premiership.

Hope you can keep it up.

Congratulations Jaffa, R.Youden and Hull.

Welcome to the premiership. :)

edit: On the radio interview: "What can I say ****ing brilliant" :)

Wow. Division 3 to Premier League in only 5 years!! Impressive stuff. Congrats to jaffa and R.Youden :)

Congrats to Hull, Jaffa and R. Youden! I'm looking forward to seeing more Windass goals next season.

On a different note, Avram Grant is now available, and Mourinho's return to Chelski is on 8/1 odds. I think not, but who knows?

There were tears.

Congratulations. Shame I couldn't be there today. :(

On another note, a little comment that annoyed me today was a Republic of Ireland nobody criticizing Giovanni Trapattoni for calling up Carlisle United wonder 'keeper Kieran Westwood. He "expressed concern about "Joe Soaps" finding their way into the squad". What the **** is that supposed to mean? The lads genuinely a quality keeper and his Dad's Irish... apparently. Job sorted.

Turns out it was bitter Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy, whoever he is... Tosser. Actually really got to me that did.

What a day! It may sound really strange but I was more exhausted after the Watford game last week and the Cardiff game last season which kept us up.

Where do we go now? Anfield, Old Trafford, St. James' Park?

It is hard to believe that a few years ago we where playing the likes of Wrexham, Kidderminster, Chester, Carlisle and Leeds ;)

I predicted it would be Jose last night, thought I'd get it down in black and white, that way when the special one returns to chelsea I can say "Told you so!!!"

Just hope you spend some of the £60 million on players that have a chance of keeping you up. You don't want to do what We and Derby did this year (although we spent plenty of money, just on crap) and come straight back down.

Still nice to see Brian Hughes going back up.

Don't worry about it – it's snobbery, pure and simple. Already this morning I'm reading comments about how we'll be devaluing the Premier League next season and how a club like us doesn't deserve to be there. If people genuinely think like that, then bollocks to them. We don't care.

It's the same mentality as the Ireland call-up, people are afraid of change and the status quo being challenged. I'm sure that Westwood wouldn't have been called up if his performances and abilities didn't merit it – and it's a big feather in the cap of Carlisle United.

And thanks for the congratulations and good wishes, everyone. A few years back it was Mansfield and Hartlepool we were facing, now it's Manchester United and Liverpool. Blimey.
