I spotted that one myself earlier. Three cheers for Big Jim Gannon. :)

Meanwhile, given the fact that tonight's final of the Champions League (the greatest football tournament in the world™, as Sky breathlessly tell us) is being played between two teams from the Premier League (the greatest league in the world™, as Sky breathlessly tell us), it therefore follows that we're about to witness the greatest game of football that there's ever been ever™.

Personally, I'm reckoning it will be a dour, scrappy, nervous affair – but what do I know, eh?

Now, I don't think I'm a petty or nasty-minded individual... but the sight of the odious John Terry reduced to tears after missing a penalty and seeing his team lose the Champions League final was a joy to behold. :D
But nowhere near as good as that arrogant little poo Ronaldo missing his first :D

(I did laugh at Terry too though :p)

I feel for Terry though slipping at that crucial moment when they were so close to nailing man u's coffin. It is painful, i would've cried myself if i'm being honest but i don't support either team so it doesnt matter to me

Manchester United yet again play their luck card but congrats to them nonetheless.

To be honest, players had been slipping all night. I'm surprised a few more of them didn't reconsider their footwear options.

Steady on there, John.

I almost thought somebody would've had some sympathy for Chelsea, but no, evidently not.
To be honest, I've every sympathy for Chelsea and their supporters – penalties are a horrible, horrible way to lose a game, especially such an important one – but I can't be so charitable to John Terry. As I've mentioned previously in this thread, I don't like his general attitude and I hope that what happened last night will maybe teach him a bit of humility.

I won't go holding my breath, though.

It was a horrible night, I hated the fact that one of those teams had to win. If only sudden death penalties could've gone on forever..

John Terry crying (again) - funny.
Ronaldo missing - funny.

I'm very disappointed. I had hoped there would be crowd troubles in Moscow and that, eager to avoid a repeat of the Glaswegians in Manchester, the Russian riot police would "contain" the problem.

Oh well, there is some consolation that this sort of result could lead to both managers departing.

I loved it when that most irritating little piece of **** aka Ronaldo missed. If that penalty had gone it, I'm sure the Chelsea supporters would've complained about the run up....

I do feel sorry for Chelsea though. This was a game about who wanted to loose more... And Terry won that.

What actually is the rule about penalty taking, though? I thought that the run up had to be one continuous movement, even if a player alters his speed during it – is that still the case? Because Mr Ronaldo must have stopped dead for three or four seconds before his ill-fated strike.

So, had Ronaldo have converted his spot kick would the referee have been right to order him to retake it?

I'm sure that really should have been the case, but I'm not sure this referee would have had the balls to take that decision.
I have seen Ronalduh take similar run ups, and not one that I can recall has ever been disallowed.

Just another one of those unsporting irritating Ronaldung thngs ManUre supporters seem to like

The thing with that tactic though is that if the goalkeeper keeps his cool and waits then you're buggered. Cech didn't move early as many other keepers would have done as Ronaldo attempted his little trick – end result young Cristiano bottled it.

Mind, as you say I suspect that had Ronaldo not bottled it, the referee would have done so with the retake decision.

Having sold out their own allocation, Leeds fans are trying to get their hands on Doncaster's tickets:

You wouldn't have imagined there were so many Leeds fans left...! :p

And Jaffa Cake, you're right about Ronaldoo's little trick back-firing when the goalie just looks and waits. Well done Cech there, then.
That was a better stop than van der Sar's. van der Sar simply gambled right, and Anelka just couldn't keep his nerve.
Over here in Holland they are ecstatic about van der Sar's "heroic save". Irritating.

I haven't posted on here for a while but I though I would put my head above the parapet for a change.

With regard to the save for Van Der Sar, I was reading an article by a sports scientist which says that goal keepers never 'save' penalties, strikers (or whoever) only ever miss them. There are certain areas of the goal that a 'keeper could never get to but players often put them just to the right or left and a 'keeper has a 50% chance of saving it.
