I don't know what is happening to the price of produce in the UK, but it is extremely high in the US, specially in Alaska where I live because the chain stores (supermarkets and general merchandise) ship all their products to the stores in Alaska from the so called, "lower-48 states". The same is done in Hawaii. All products cost a lot more in remote areas of Alaska that have no road access. Wages are high, and so the cost of living. gasoline costs over $5.00 per gallon already, but I buy 35 gallons x month at $1.00 discount. Sometimes I don't need so much gasoline, so I donate it to my older son. He drives a truck most of the time, and a motorcycle every now and then during the summer. I see numerous UK motorcyclists in Alaska during the summer.

Cost of produce is rising here as well inflation is up. Fuel costs for heating have doubled and are due to rise again in the autumn.
The Ukrainian war is causing all sorts of issues. Even the cost of Brexit is still affecting the cost of imports. The cost of Covid is not insignificant either. The government will need to recoup those reserves sometime.
It’s difficult times for many. Especially for younger lower paid people.
