it might be disappointing.... it's a bit tough to talk apple stuff when i pretend i don't know anything at first..... i'm trying though...

Omigod, I just saw that ad about 30 seconds ago and it was frelling terrible. It starts off with the Profile4, then blabbers on that it can run thousands more software than the Mac and blah blah blah, then it does backflips over three iMacs, then moves the screen around like the iMac, except this is definately animation, it can't actually be done like that, but anywayz, it flips back over the iMacs, then turns towards them and spits it's CD-tray at them. Then the announcer says it's cheaper and then it ends. Frelling pathetic. I hope that's the last time I ever seen it. Frelling pathetic 
BTW jello, ask them why they give the impression that the screen can move when in fact it doesn't and why no dvd burner

i covered most of that stuff... came back at me with the "can only talk about gateway products". i asked what the other computer was in the commercial "that one's good. we're better" or something like that... haha. you'll see

it was tough. i mean, i wanted to just spew facts at the end... but hey, the guy is just earning a living. it's not him i have a problem with but gateway in general... and i did cost him some money maybe....

This may be for every PC sales chat site, but one thing I notice on all of these is that the saleman (or woman) seems to be desperate to get an order from you. That's how I felt at least. If it is only Gateway, then that telss you that they're getting kinda desperate. Anybody know how their financial state is now?
Oh, and one thing interesting about them is that say that they're only qualified to talk about Gateway products. I could understand it maybe if they weren't doing so many comparisons to the iMac, but on my first try, my tech said she'd never seen an iMac.

oh i definitely hear you... and what you couldn't tell in mine was that my dude took forever to find out if the screen tilted at all.... it was ridiculous. more than 10 mins

Hey I just went to Gateway's site myself.....saw the Profile featured.........& you know......when taking a good look at it........ it's really not that bad. Then I looked at the specs...... & it's a 2.66GHZ Pentium 4!!! ........Now I'm an Athalon fan (for PC's) ....... but a 2.66GHZ P4 ain't bad......not to mention the 512mb DDR SDRAM...... I am beginning to think this could be a good thing for Apple, because it might make them finally commit to upgrading their more stylish and compact hardware, not just the big PowerMacs........ lets face it .......a 700MHZ G4, and the G3 iBooks just don't measure up.
Oh & I'm a Mac owner too........ so I am not biased. IMacs, iBooks, and eMacs all need big performance upgrades right now...... and products like the Profile might just push Apple to make the necessary improvements sooner rather then later. For the record, I hate Gateway and would never pay for any of their products....... but I did enter to win one of the free Profiles they're giving away....I mean.....what the #ell........ it's free!!! lol

Wow, If a lot of apple people did this it could really put a dent in Gateways sales! The reason they push you so much is because they are on commision and they longer you keep them online the less sales they can make. let's don't stop at Gateway! haha.
They didn't tell us anything about comparing the two. (Yes, I am a phone sales rep for add-on parts) All they said was "tell them they can get up to 2.8 GHz and the Mac only has 700 MHz" All of the sales reps here on the phone think the Profool is a joke. Of the reps I have talked to, no one has even asked them about the Profool let alone purchased one. It would seem that you guys are the only ones asking about it

well then if there going to try and fight agains a foe one has to learn the know the enemy to beat them. looks like they dont know apple... so they dont pose much of a threat to apple. apple know thier enemy and they educate thier employers well on them... thats why apple has a strong respectible ad campaign right now. thats why they have a strong resepctible business period that has survived some serious crap. but i hear ya on your response.

I think its good to have rivals, as long as theyre outside Gateway, not among us. A good rival gives us a target, something to fight together. Thats what our business was founded on. If youve never heard of Zeos or Northgate, its because Gateway fought those entities and won. In todays world, its important to point out that having a rival isnt personal. The individuals of those companies werent our enemies. In fact, Im still friends with the founder of Zeos. It was just business.
To be honest, in the past few years, sometimes its felt like the rivals have been inside Gateway, not outside. But those days are over, starting now. Weve worked really hard to build a new company that can compete with and beat anyone in this industry, and its time to start acting like it again. Our new Gateway Profile® 4 PC campaign is a departure from our past in that were going after a competitor by name. Apples been trying to claim leadership of a space that we basically created almost three years ago with our first Profile, and were not about to let them. Were using hard facts presented in a uniquely fun, engaging and honest way to show that Gateway offers a superior product at a better price. The public reaction so far (except for the Apple disciples) says its working.

The individuals of those companies werent our enemies. In fact, Im still friends with the founder of Zeos. It was just business.
To be honest, in the past few years, sometimes its felt like the rivals have been inside Gateway, not outside. But those days are over, starting now. Weve worked really hard to build a new company that can compete with and beat anyone in this industry, and its time to start acting like it again. Our new Gateway Profile® 4 PC campaign is a departure from our past in that were going after a competitor by name. Apples been trying to claim leadership of a space that we basically created almost three years ago with our first Profile, and were not about to let them. Were using hard facts presented in a uniquely fun, engaging and honest way to show that Gateway offers a superior product at a better price. The public reaction so far (except for the Apple disciples) says its working.
This is the first in a series of new external communications that will show the world what you already know: that Gateway is simply better than our competition. Were not going to go after every one of our competitors by name. But whether its our products, pride, service, operations, or people, were just better than everyone else. Period. So lets start acting like it, telling our customers about it and selling like it. And lets join together to fight the rivals outside these walls, and win.
