I like the look, but until there is a verizon version I am stuck with my droid.

Thing is, the casing needs field testing at least as much as any othe part of the phone. Apple would want to field test with as close to a final case as possible.

definitely upgrading, looks like a big change, and well worth it.

Much more worth it than 3g to 3gs.

I’m not all that crazy about the design, but if it has iChat and it works with desktop version of iChat … I’m upgrading provided AT&T doesn’t charge a ridiculous upgrade premium for 3GS owners that bought at launch last year.

He's irrational because he doesn't know this adapter exists??? Perhaps, misinformed or some variant is the word you wanted to use.

What's with all the testiness on here today?

All the newer members have lately challenged all the senior members... ie -aggie- and others (including me).... I wonder if its because of the 'leak'

I've had about all I can handle of my iPhone 3G. So yes, I'll be upgrading to either the iPhone 3GS or the newer one.

nope, i'll buy an ipad instead and hope the next one looks better.

hopefully though that isn't going to be the final look and just some junk case so people don't realise its the next one cos if thats the look the iphone is going...

Eff me... I was going to stay with my 3gs not matter what, but I watched some video of that son o' beach and my juices were flowing... eff you apple and your iPhone that has me trapped!!!!!

This is a nice thread, why dont you make a poll so everyone can vote?? I'll get it btw if the leaked pics are the real iphone!

Yes I do think that. Just because a prototype has such screen doesn't mean the end thing will have it.

You actually think Apple made a high-resolution prototype and will put a low resolution screen in the final version even though all of their competitors are putting high resolution screens in? It's one thing to realize that Apple doesn't usually get caught up in spec-wars, but it's quite another to believe that Apple will not include a feature that so dramatically impacts user experience for the better.

1. Yes, Apple has done such things the past. Put things that are inferior to the competition.

2. Also, I think Apple was field testing how it would look. Remember, Apple is not always 1st to the game, but when they go in, they do a nice job.

3. Again, Apple is known to do this.

I understand your points, and yes a nice higher resolution screen will be nice, but lets look at it objectively. This is a prototype, and does not mean or imply it will be the actual iPhone3,1.

  1. Please show an example of one such occasion
  2. This is now how Apple works. They've never done something like this in the past.
  3. Again....please give one example

1. 3G, they used a battery life excuse in the first gen.
2. They always do, you are just new to this.
3. Blu-Ray in MacBooks. Every competitor offers such, and Apple doesn't. That's a huge point people make against Macs.

There are many others, all across the Apple product lines.

If that's the case, I won't be buying. I don't care how it looks or what extra features it has. It needs a higher res screen. The one I see is dated. BADLY~!

Sorry, I read your first point wrong. Thought you meant they leak inferior product then deliver something better.

I'm not new to anything (been on this forum almost as long as you). Apple has not field tested the appearance of a single deivce that I'm aware of. Not to the public.

Obviously they do, but to the naked untrained eye, the prototypes look like regular and current gen products.

This 'leak' for example was found inside a case that made it look like an iPhone 3GS. The case that disguised it was made for this specific purpose. Sneaky.

Forget it...I re-read your second post. You said they've "never" done this before. Somehow I missed the never.

But I don't think this is how Apple works now. This was all a mistake. I just don't see Steve working in this way.

Obviously? Really? Once again I ask for proof. What you just gave an example of is the opposite of publicly testing the appearance of a product. They were intentionally disguising it from the public...until it was mistakenly lost or stolen. Also, the example you gave is this leaked iPhone to prove itself???

Yes, this leaked iPhone is more than enough proof that Apple field tests in the public.

This and the previous iPhone were all field tested out in the open. Just look back on the stories here in MR, you will see that the iPhone 3G appeared on analytic software loooong before it showed up.

Look at the prototype MacBook Pro from 2006. It was cased in a PowerBook case. Many examples exist, just Google.

What I meant was publicly leaked in a very publicized way. I agree that they take their products out in the wild and use them, but not that they show everyone (my opinion of the word publicly).

They do, but when people look at the tester using the prototype, they do not realize its a next new thing. They are not about leaking the product. Just testing it. Also, they don't give it to random people.

I can agree with that. Most of this conversation was a misunderstanding of your earlier post on my part. Sorry.
