Yeah it lets you resize up or down as you need. Plus apparently you can have apps sitting around your virtual display as if in full-screen mode. If 32" you have is already more than enough for your needs then obviously it's less attractive for you. For me, the idea I don't have to have a large physical monitor sitting on my desk is pretty compelling in itself.
Plus it’s portable.

In my case, my wife works from home so has the home office with multiple displays. When I’m home, it’s working off the laptop. Having a larger display will mirror my work set up and actually be much better, all from my couch.

It is still possible to pre-order the base model and go and collect it a few days after launch, in multiple big cities across the US.

I wonder if Apple could have ramped up production and allotted more stock, or perhaps those not so raving reviews have led to some cancellations.

Either way, I'm pleased, because it means people won't be needing to pay those ****** ******* **** scalpers any money. lol.

probably a combo of the two, or they just allocated more stock to certain locations. It is very possible the stores now know how many devices they are expecting, so they can offer them for "pre-order" or walk-ins.

Yes, Apple Store pickups are better for sooner than later pickups.

I got my second backup Apple Store pickup order a week after pre-order started and got a 2/3 appointment.

You do have to search far and wide - I looked at 20 Apple stores in 4 counties and found one in Los Angeles County.

Here is another way I look at the Vision Pro. I want one because well, why wouldn't I? Its extremely cool and modern and it has many functions, including a glimpse of the future. I buy everything Apple makes. If this was $1,000 I would have my pre order in. However, there is the question to ask...do I need one? Do most people need one?

Most people need a phone. People who love Apple or iOS will buy an iPhone at least every 3 or 4 years because they need a phone. Most homes don't have landlines anymore. An phone is a necessity for almost everyone.

Do people need a computer? Most people do, for a variety of reason. Some choose a Mac, some choose other platforms. But computers are a necessity for most.

Do people need iPads? Not necessarily. We want them because they make some tasks faster or easier or more enjoyable. But are they a necessity for most who already have a phone and a computer? In most cases no. Same for the Apple Watch. Its one of my favorite gadgets but if I only could have one device, it would be an iPhone.

So now apply the same logic to the Vision Pro. Until Apple makes it a necessity in peoples lives, people will want one but not NEED one. What will be the function that makes it a need over a want? Will it eventually replace a Mac or even an iPhone? Time will tell. But for now, it remains a luxury buy looking for a market, looking for a function that will eventually make it indispensable.

I had to use this reasoning to my wife who asked why I paid $3800 for "another" Apple device.

This was my rationale:
iPhone still have 14+ from 2022
MacBook Pro 2020
Mac Studio 2022

Do I think I deserve a new Apple product ?
🤷‍♂️

Spot on, but this is true for many of Apple’s devices. The iPad, the AirPods, the AirPods Max, the Apple Watch, the HomePod, the Apple TV, they are all “nice to have” devices that fit a certain niche. The iPhone and arguably the Mac are the only must-have devices.

Just because something is a luxury that doesn’t mean it won’t be a success. Apple sells more iPads than Macs. I don’t think there is any function that will make the Vision Pro as essential as an iPhone. If I suddenly wouldn’t be able to use WhatsApp on my phone, or do my banking, or view my tax letters from the government, it might merit a second look.

I said it before in some other threads here. All these platforms basically all have the same apps. Windows, Mac, iPad, iPhone, AppleTV, Roku, Linux, Xbox, Playstation. Sure some are missing here and there, but the day of needing a 'utility' or killer feature ONLY available on that device are gone.

Everything is some variation of a Lifestyle device. iPads are convenient and nice for some things, but not everything, yet they do just fine.

That said, people are not paying attention there is something the VisionPro can do that others cannot. True mixed reality spacial computing. Right now the killer feature there is setting up work spaces anywhere. Sure you can do that with a mac now, but not with the crazy screens pinned on your fridge, frying pan, desk, ceiling etc. Not on a plane.

Is that reason enough to justify spending $5k? Not for 99% of people.

But the point is, this is just the beginning. This device wont roll out as fast as the iPhone because of many factors, form factor being one of them. But it WILL roll out. It does have a killer feature that others dont have and that is mixed reality spacial computing. When the physical form factor gets down to a pair of ray bans, it becomes an iPhone REPLACEMENT for many people.

Until then, just like all the other lifestyle devices, eg, iPad, it will do just fine with the early adopter set.

The important part is does it have the right 'recipe' to make it a breakthrough platform. The Meta and other VR headsets did NOT have that right balance of features and UI. This does. That's that. It's just like all the other platforms before the iPhone were close, but no cigar. Then the iPhone got that recipe right, and it blew out its own platform category. The Vision Pro just did that.

Just like many people didnt get the early iPhone nor did they realize, that yes, it was the Jesus Phone, and made banal uninsightful criticisms of it, missing the entire point of the revolution they were witnessing, so here, we have the same of the growsing critics not getting that this IS a revolution. They will get on board later, when we get a RayBan form factor version more suited towards the masses.

But the revolution is here. These are the Jesus Glasses*.

*early beta form factor not for the general public yet, but UI and platform are the right mix.

Not quite a review, but if anyone watches Marques Brownlee's podcast, he did the whole podcast wearing the Vision Pro (and uses it to cheat on trivia) and it was pretty hilarious.

Is MKBHD going to start doing all his actual work inside AVP?

Or is this really just the content viewing, casual entertainment, bauble many think it is?
