I thought Marques’ review was interesting and covered most of the basics. Joanna Stern seemed to be the only one who had actually tried to do real work in it and “got a ton done”. The Verge’s review was also worth watching.
This was a shockingly good overview of what AVP can do.Marques Brownlee's next review video is up:
You can‘t wait for someone to tell you what they want because most people don’t actually know what they want. You have to try things out. It’s only then will you figure out what people actually want or will use.The other problem I see with VisionPro is the fact that it's creating a solution to a problem that didn't really exist. Is there a loud and large percentage of the populace screaming for a computer stuck to their face? Not really because they already have their phones for that. Is there a large segment of people screaming for a TV with a 2 hour battery life? No because 4K TV's are dirt cheap and dont require batteries. Is there an industry clamoring for the ability to collaborate in real time with creepy avatars instead of ACTUAL people? I dont think so.
What I came for:
“I’ve saved the best for last. Vision Pro is simply a phenomenal way to watch movies, and 3D immersive experiences are astonishing. There are 3D immersive experiences in Vision Pro that are more compelling than Disney World attractions that people wait in line for hours to see.
But I can recommend buying Vision Pro solely for use as a personal theater. I paid $5,000 for my 77-inch LG OLED TV a few years ago. Vision Pro offers a far more compelling experience (including far more compelling spatial surround sound). You’d look at my TV set and almost certainly agree that it’s a nice big TV. But watching movies in the Disney+ and TV apps will make you go “Wow!” These are experiences I never imagined I’d be able to have in my own home (or, say, while flying across the country in an airplane).”

Are we just rearranging deck chairs here to try to justify Apple spending all this time and money?
This is the best one so far from all the videos posted here. It is as real as you get for daily use experience. The verge one tried too hard to appease the naysayers focussing only on negative on every positive. The iJustines one I can hardly take too serious as it’s too overly fanboying. This review was about as good as iJustines —->
I agree, this is not only the best video from Brian Tong I've seen, but the review is probably the best and most through APV review showing use of vision pro in a casual/pro setting. Presents both positive/negative from an objective point of view and then separates that from his own personal opinion at the end. This is the best one so far from all the videos posted here. Well, sheesh, call me a luddite, but my Apple watch copes fairly well giving me timers and alerts while I'm cooking. Poor stupid Siri can at least do that much.
No need to strap a heavy visor to my face and deal with steam and fat droplets spattering around.
Wielding sharp knives that require some precision all while viewing it through an array of cameras that aren't even high resolution enough to tell if you're actually grinding pepper into your food.
Reading labels in the cupboard? Seems to be not working that well.
And who follows along while cooking? Do you?
I mean, really, who follows along step by step while cooking as if it some kind of home economics class 101.
LOL.
I do a LOT of cooking. And I use timers (often multiple timers). Yet somehow I manage to do this without an expensive and heavy headset strapped to my face.
Must be magic!
It's the guy that did the Tom's guy review, earlier in the thread. He did a good review. This review by NBC I think is one of the best reviews. It restored my faith in AVP.
Yes, loved Brian Tong's review - almost an hour and had to rewind the video to watch again.I agree, this is not only the best video from Brian Tong I've seen, but the review is probably the best and most through APV review showing use of vision pro in a casual/pro setting. While the timer is my primary use, I also use it to page my phone.Yea, because for sure, people would buy it JUST for timers. Just like people buy the Apple Watch JUST for timers. 🙄
While my AW can remotely start/lock/unlock my EV; I don't think Vision OS can do that nor would I want it to...While the timer is my primary use, I also use it to page my phone.
what an odd concept indeed: waiting until you actually have the money to buy something. Some people will have used a credit card or loan to buy this thing so it will be interesting if they can get genuine value out of it day to day.
I had the money to buy this, but Apple offers 12 equal monthly payments with no interest.what an odd concept indeed: waiting until you actually have the money to buy something.
But hey, if you’re so keen on giving someone else yet more of your money, go right ahead I guess…
Never understood that (American?) infatuation with debt.
I didn't even think about timers, but now, if I'm using Vision Pro and I need a timer, I'm definitely not going to use my Apple Watch or iPhone when there are timers right there in Vision Pro!Yea, because for sure, people would buy it JUST for timers. Just like people buy the Apple Watch JUST for timers. 🙄
If you’re really asking, I do because I’m an absolute newb in the kitchen lol. But I probably wouldn’t use a VP for this.I mean, really, who follows along step by step while cooking as if it some kind of home economics class 101.
Yep. SO amazing. Wow.You guys are missing the point if you think the actual timer floating over the pot is a 'killer' use.
It's representative of the many amazing things that can be done mixing normal reality with spacial computing tech.
I still haven’t seen any utility. The reviews are really upbeat and positive. It's clear this doesn't feel like a normal first gen product. Vision Pro has a ton of utility on day one and will delight everyone who buys one.
I still haven’t seen any utility.
Why shockingly? You've used a buzz word there. Not sure why. It was a decent review, that's all (as you'd expect from that channel). This was a shockingly good overview of what AVP can do.
I’m still not sure what the benefit of that is, though. I use my MBA with a 32” 4K display already. The AVP just lets me have a bigger display? If you use Mac, here's a biggie:
Apple's vision for the productive pro
The virtual display utility of the Apple Vision Pro stands out as a compelling reason, for a lot of Mac users, to seriously consider buying one of these pricey new headsets. I'm all in on the iPad Pro lifestyle, but the virtual monitors makes me want to buy a MBP again. Hopefully they'll bring it to iPad.
Yeah it lets you resize up or down as you need. Plus apparently you can have apps sitting around your virtual display as if in full-screen mode. If 32" you have is already more than enough for your needs then obviously it's less attractive for you. For me, the idea I don't have to have a large physical monitor sitting on my desk is pretty compelling in itself.I’m still not sure what the benefit of that is, though.
