u have to get this clear, throttling SHOULD happen under extreme TEMP, but NOT extreme LOAD.

I Love this machine, but is NVIDIA ( Probably ) let us down! And APPLE, should know this b4 hand. I think Apple should have tested their products at a deeper perspectives and have their QC working.

I couldn't have put it better myself. There are too many people who put too much trust in nVidia. They still deny that any nVidia cards are failing, though through admit and the legal system, this was proven otherwise.

Apple placed their trust in nVidia hoping that the 8xxx series problems wouldn't have plagued the 9xxx series, and it probably hasn't. It seems rather that this is the same problem that the 6xxx series nVidia chipset was plagued with. If this turns out to be a big issue, I'm pretty sure that Apple will slam the brakes on it. Even though nVidia was forced to cover all damages in regards to these faults, the manufacturer will still have to cover some costs and that's bad for business. Reference, go through all the nVidia lawsuits, you might be shocked.

I know about their lawsuits, and in my Unibody case, i suspect is their 9400 Chipset's problem. Which causes the CPU to throttle without any reason. Reading the news a few days ago, it seems the 9400 is a pretty doggy chip, with a B1 revision, i am worried about how long this chip will last. But of course, Apple should have notice this issue in the first place and stop selling prototypes as final products. I'd rather have a notebook with normal intel chipset and a graphic card. that's why i said i was very disappointed about this MBP, i love the screen, the unibody the keyboard and the trackpad ( but too loud ). I absolutely love every aspect of this computer. But it just doesn't work properly; now that annoys me, they are so close to create a fantastic machine for people who reli "work" on graphics, CAD or 3D. The durability and the feel of the machine is incredible. But as a computer wise, it is not working properly....

Right, those machines were free of defects...

What?
I have my 4th machine of those right now and after my studies are done, I will let this one fix as well (airport keeps on disconnecting--> crappy Broadcom one/ monitors LEDs are faulty again and cause stripes from time to time/ Bluetooth keeps on making trouble even with apples Keyboard).
Thats a pitty because this machine is the coolest one I had, the other were running much hotter!

u had 4 unibody mbp? How can you have faith in Apple products anymore?

No,
not the unibody, the early 08!
I will let this one fix and then sell it and buy me a Lenovo. Losing Leopard is no big deal for me as it sucks in 3D work, so I will be totally happy.
I just bought me an original USA assembled Powerbook 12" for Music and internet with Tiger, I hope that has a better quality!

As other than these, there are lots and lots of stupid defects, like chipped case, battery cover, crooked keys, uneven trackpad....

I'd love to see you simulate an extreme load that doesn't also increase temperatures dramatically, the firmware is designed with the cooling system in mind, it might not be the best cooling ever, but at least apple knew it to keep the **** from blowing up and causing even more problem.

nVidia kept the MCP79 VERY under wraps during it's whole development and it was VERY late, but that doesn't mean *APPLE* will fail to uphold it's warranty to us, unless you go and overclock the thing on top of it all... If you're so concerned about how terrible the cooling is, why would you even consider overclocking it... that makes no sense to me. And you keep wailing about not getting a chip that runs at 2.8ghz like it was advertised, are you now going to complain about not getting one that overclocks to 3.25? Because, that's the same thing...

By overclocking your machine, you are violating your warranty, by now making a warranty claim you are taking advantage of apple and people who make legitimate warranty claims. You mentioned you had the loose battery cover etc... why did you wait to bring it in? And why did you settle for it? You mentioned you already have a new one on the way? If this happens more and more Apple will get more stingy with doing warranty replacements/repairs.

oh for god sake, how ' many times do i have to tell you this is not related to the temperature, for **** sake can you have a look at the log file i have posted. Just stop reacting when you havnt done enough research. Or you have no idea how to unzip a zip file? go to book an appointment in Apple store and let the genius help you. **** sake

**** sake, this is my replacement unit, i ordered on the net, so there's no way i dun accept it when it is delivered by TNT. My replacement unit has a battery cover which fits! Apple just stick a rubber pad on it and reduces the gap. And for the second one, i dun think overheating exist. But it throttles! The first one can reach to 107'C in OSX. Which is may be a feature in your eyes.

When you're posting about something that is completely normal (that is, computer throttling itself to stop high temperatures and therefore stop itself dying) you have NO right to say this. Why are you failing so badly to understand the fundamental reasoning in this situation? THE LAPTOP DOES THIS SO IT DOES NOT DIE AND NOT WORK AT ALL ANYMORE. If that is a feature you don't feel comfortable having or if you want to kill your laptop, take your business else where. But honestly, you're being ridiculous. Do some research on heat, surface areas, temperatures, processors, and processors and heat in small space, then tell me it's not something you expect in a very thin laptop.

You go on and on about this like it is such a problem. I'm sorry that you cannot run the two programs which you are not meant to run together to produce this results 24/7, you'll just have to find something else to spend your time doing. Have you ever thought about learning punctuation?

Seriously, stop going on. Bottom line is: If you like the product, great. If you don't, take it back and buy a laptop you can kill, and kill it. Just don't complain when it dies.

Why can't you people read? is not related to the temperature anymore. For **** sake. READ with your EYES please. If you can , you can find somebody how can speaks and then you can LISTEN. Please seriously. READ, or LISTEN

Ummmm I looked at your logfile it looks like it takes the CPU 2 minutes to stop throttling itself. Seems normal to me.

You are running the CPU and GPU at 100% load indefinitely in a 15" laptop chassis. This is *extremely* unlikely to be a real world scenario as most applications are either CPU or GPU bound.

I have to agree with the other posters that say your laptop is fine and your expectations are unreasonable. Get yourself a cooling plate or external cooling solution if you want to run dual synthetic benchmarks like this.

The log file shows the CPU is throttling throughout the test. And that Log is created during GAME PLAY

Doesn't matter what you're doing, they throttle all the time, probably a lot more often than that nTune is logging for you, they change speed constantly, voltage, etc.. Probably multiple times a millisecond, it's the way they're designed (and by 'they' I don't mean MBP's, I mean processors, made by anyone, Intel, AMD, Via, IBM...)

Every replacement you get is going to do this, they're not faulty, you just don't know what you're talking about.

I HAVE read your log file, I DO know what it's telling me, I DO know what you're saying; the fact is that you are wrong and you won't EVER find a laptop post the introduction of the pentium-m or p4/m that doesn't do this.

It was sarcasm

From my honest reply, I believe you should get the early 2008 MBP. So many people have been disappointed by the late 2008 including myself. I went back to the Apple Store, and got it refunded excluding the restocking fee due to the manager being sorry that the new MacBook Pro did not live up to its hype.

I am currently on a 2.5Ghz Penryn with a 2253BW Samsung LCD monitor using DVI. I could not be happier. Best wishes!

Iscangus - Chill out. People are trying to help. Swearing and insinuating people are stupid is not helping any.

Keep it up and you're headed for a time-out.

I have read everything you posted (in BOTH threads you started because no one was agreeing with you) and you are still misguided. If only you read people's advice and took it instead of merely sticking with your original position and stomping your feet.

People are not taking jabs at you, we are trying to help but you are not listening. This is NOT an issue with the machine. A feature of the chip is to stop itself geting so hot it dies. If it is running at full speed (CPU AND GPU), it thinks 'oh, I'll get hot soon, I'll slow myself down a little so I don't destroy myself'.

Is a feature that your Brand new Nissan GTR is will run at 100 BHP instead of 500, it is a feature to protect the both the car and you. :)

Tell me, does your computer drive at stupid-miles-per-hour? Does it allow you travel from a to b? No...so this is a silly comparison. How about comparing it to, oh I don't know...maybe another laptop? Also, if your car engine was in a car that was 1 inch thick, there would be big engineering problems to overcome, similar to laptop. So yeah, please stop making baseless comparisons to other fields of engineering.

The way to conquer the problem of a computer over-heating when it's under 100% GPU and CPU is for it to limit itself to a certain speed. And as many many many MANY people know, it's VERY rare to get these two conditions to happen. So, the point remains, you're picking holes.

As I said, stop complaining about something that protects your £1200 laptop. or go out and buy one that will die within a days use. Maybe then you'll be more satisfied?

I'm out of this conversation now,so please don't waste your time replying. The reason for the feature has been outlined a thousand times and if you're failing to understand that basic, fundamental reasoning, then I'm afraid nothing but a self-destructing £1200 laptop will make you happy. Go buy one.
