Sorry I don't have specifics, but I thought there were potential issues with 2009 MB's and SSD. I'd google it. It might be only with MBP's vs MB Air's or something, or a motherboard in the 15" vs 17," but I remember coming across stuff about it when I was confirming the 830 would be compatible w/ my mid 2010 MBP.
Maybe as these guys indicate, Lion takes care of it w/ an updated firmware?

Installed the 512gb Samsung 830 about a month ago into my MBP from mid 2010 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5.

Upgraded to Mountain Lion and the thing bugged out.
Wont start up, gives me the mac frozen please restart screen.
I was able to reinstall ML onto my original HD that i left in here.

What do i do to get the SSD working? now that i'm on the HD i'm really noticing how much slower everything is.

anyone else having issues w/ mountain lion? if so, what are your specs?

To clarify my issue:

I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion via the App Store.
Download was smooth and fairly quick.
Closed all apps and began the install but i ended in a continuous loop where my computer kept freezing. left me with the screen saying "your computer restarted because of a problem. press any key or wait a few seconds to restart"

I am able to enter Recovery Mode, I repaired my permissions and repaired my disk multiple times and tried to get in, doesn't work.
I was able to boot into SAFE MODE and apple requests permission to email the below Panic Report to apple.

I also tried resetting my PRAM as some people on MacRumors tried that and it worked.

Can anyone help me find the problem so i can fix the problem and get back to work???

Guys, I need some help upgrading my stock 5400 Macbook pro HDD to this Samsung 830 128gb basic kit model.

I do not have a HDD data transfer thing so what happens if I just insert it into my mac? Will it start downloading Mountain Lion from the internet and then will I be able to restore from my time machine backup?

No, unless it's a 2011 MBP (and above). Also it will probably download Lion if it came with your system.

Hi

I' ve some problem with my Samsung 830 SSD after ML upgrade. When I installed the SSD 2 month ago the performance mesured with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test were: 380 MB/s write and 420 MB/s reading.

Now I' ve 350 write and only 180 Mb/S reading! anyone have this issue? thanks!

P.S. I tried again and i saw that the first test works well with 380 mb/s write and 430 read but after the first test the speed slows down to 200 mb/s write and slowly increase to about 300 mb/s. I saw that strange SSd speed derease in daily computer use. It' s a little bit slower expacially when launching app from the doc I see a little bouncing that in Lion not happening. I need to try a clean install? thanks!

woohoo. finally had time to install my 256gb drive and do a fresh install of ML. can't tell much of a speed difference with day to day tasks compared with my apple 128gb ssd, but i am enjoying twice the space.:D

So after all I've read so far I'll wait with the ML update this time!

Guys, what's your opinion on noatime? Yes or no? The SSD is my only Drive in my MB.

Thanks!

I have a late 2008 MBP and want to install a 830 SSD, knowing I'll only have SATAII speeds.
Are the upgrade kits/spacers needed for this installation or can I just order the stock drive?

Thanks in advance.

I'm still waiting to install mine but will be soon now that Mountain Lion is out (wanted to wait and clean install)... but it's my understanding that you do not need any spacers or other accessories, etc. in order to install in any MBP HDD bay.
Additionally, with the 830, you're advised not to run Samsung SSD Magician via any connection other than the internal sata interface.
There have been some issues reported with installing the operating system via usb and/or dock as well.
So, imo you're better off without any upgrade/transfer packages/kits.

I ordered my 830 two weeks ago and I got the Basic Kit. I have no idea what you would need the upgrade kit for! Get yourself a way cheaper SATA-to-USB Cable! I ordered one for 11 EUR (13,50 USD). All you need is a Torx T6 and a Philips #00 Screwdriver!

Don't worry about the speeds. I compared it to a friend's who has a 2011 MBP with the 830 and it was more or less the same (of course not if you perform a benchmark but in everyday life).

Has anybody had any negative results enabling TRIM on a 512gb 830 Samsung SSD on a 17" late 2011 MBP using 1600mhz 16gb Corsair Ram using Mountain Lion.

I think my drive is shutting off when the laptop goes to sleep, something that wasn't happening with my stock HDD.

Thanks

so to clarify, I have an early 2011 MBP. If I install a 830 128 will the computer automatically download and install Lion? I don't have any backup/os disks.

Yes.

You have to hold down Option, though, during bootup. Then you can do a network install of Lion using WiFi.

From there on you can update to Mountain Lion once you get into Lion.

Or if you want to do a fresh install of ML, just make a USB key first with your MBP with ML (there are plenty of instructions online) and then boot from the USB key.

This is of course if you want to upgrade to ML, but for $20 I don't see why not. It's a fantastic OS.

My Samsung 830 is coming tomorrow and I was wondering how to get a clean copy of ML on it.

I am downloading ML so I can put it on an USB, but when I get my SSD, should I install ML with the transfer kit first, or should I install the SSD and then install ML on it?

If I do the second option, in what step would I be formatting the drive? Can this be done from the installer?

Thanks

my 256gb arrived today, just wondering - is there a way to update it in a mac friendly way yet?

You mean update the firmware? Nope. You still need to do that in Windows.

no worries, checked the firmware it came with and its up to date anyway.

hey, i'v installed soem stuff since and played around with new speeds, im very very pleased. boot time wasnt a huge improvement for me as i was using a hybrid ssd drive before (seagate momentus xt) about 9 second increase in speed (was around 23, now about 15 seconds)

no problems so far.

heres however, a comparison, before, after:

no trim enabled, yet?)
