Many of my classes can get by without the text by just taking notes and following along. The tests cover what went over in class and anything I missed some of can be looked up online. Some classes need the book(s) and for those I search for used prices and *ahem* PDFs *ahem*.
At the community college I went to, I could by the book used online and then sell it at the campus bookstore when the class was over for about the same price I paid.
