I really like the look of it, but I can't figure it out. Is it like an envelope design, or does it clip on the back? The pics make it look like it is a vertical folding smartcover with a hinge.

Yea I cant quite figure this out either... I tried googling it to find more pics and have been unsuccessful so far

Does anyone have the bookbook case?

http://twelvesouth.com/products/bookbook_ipad/

I'm thinking about getting it, but I want to use it as more of a carrying case. I don't want to strap the iPad in, just place the iPad with smart cover in the case and use it for traveling with the iPad.
I think it's a nicer and more unique way to travel than using a generic sleeve.

I'm just wondering if you think the straps would get in the way when using it this way? It's pretty expensive so any feedback you would have before I buy it would be much appreciated.

I want a simple stylish sleeve, not sure if Leather or Neoprene yet though (Not Felt though). The good thing about only wanting a sleeve is that all the existing iPad 2 ones will fit :)

I'm also looking for something professional...folio style with a small/medium notepad section...has to be black (leather) as I'm in the Military...

If anyone has recommendations for me...I'm all for it!

I'm looking at getting me one of these. Has good reviews and seems to wear better than most.

(since the addition of a smart cover probably adds as much to the thickness of an iPad 2 as the new iPad is) but I do want a smart cover. I'll prob just wait a little while to see what ppl come up with

What are you talking about? The new iPad is a whopping 0.6 mm, or 0.02 inches, thicker than an iPad2. Why wouldn't all iPad2 cases fit the new iPad?

I have my debit card sitting next to me and the apple page open to pre-order, but I'm a bit of a obsessive when it comes to protection and with no real (I really don't like the idea of the smart case because from what I can see it has no protection for the back of the device) so I'm a bit put off ordering it knowing it wont have a case to go in to!

Speaking of protection I want it insured too!

I've had a Yoobao case on my ipad 1 since the second week I've owned it, and it still looks fantastic. I'll be looking for Yoobao to come out with one for the 3rd generation, and I'll probably go with them again. Looks very professional.

I ordered an Incipio case last night direct from Incipio.com. I way over payed for it, but it's a really nice case and they say the delivery estimate is the same day as the iPad. I'll believe it when I see it, but they took my money and the order is in. Griffin is selling them too, but I think their site just points you to other vendors.

I went with CaseCrown Bold Standby case on Amazon. Very low price. Has the magnetic wakeup. Protects front and back. The extra thickness should be insignificant when you slip it into the case. Great video in the user reviews to check it out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R7A9NU

My husband has this case for his iPad 2. We bought it as a "hold" until he found one he really liked. He has no intentions of buying another one. It's a great deal.

I have a Timbuktu sleeve that I am completely in love with that I used with my iPad 2. I am trying to decide what style of case I want for this iPad and am pretty sure I want something very slim, but maybe with some kind of smart cover style. I'm on the fence.

Are Apple's smart covers worth the $?

I had a macally bookstand for my ipad 1 which I liked, although it fell to bits pretty damn quickly. Curious to try the smart cover on its own first, perhaps also getting a soft rear cover to protect my coffee table from getting scratched by the ipad.

I have been using the smart cover with a gelaskin on the back.

I like to be as minimalistic as possible when it comes to a case because I don't want the extra weight/bulk. I'm only concerned about scratch protection and not so much drop protection. I've had an ipad since the first one came out and haven't even been close to dropping it (not that it can't happen ).

Marware c.e.o. They replaced my iPad 2 case twice no question asked save for picture of a broken clip. They already have the new cases available. http://www.marware.com/microshell-folio-case-for-the-new-ipad

Thanks for the link. I received an email yesterday from Marware about their new Encore line of cases for the new iPad. Pleasantly surprised to see it already available. That Microshell Folio case is what I'm looking for, hope it's a good case.

Might pull the tripper on the Lexington (this style I want in a case)

Which one did you order?

STM Skinny 3 is also in my thinking purchase process

Great thread! Last time around I went with GhostArmor on the back and a Smart Cover. This time around I'm in the market for a more complete solution:

  • Front & Back Protection
  • "Smart"
  • Not too much weight or bulk added
  • Something that looks classic - maybe leather

Can't wait to see what companies come up with. I know they're scrambling right now!

I have similar criteria (I need the case to serve as a stand too) and found this newly announced Targus Slim Case pretty high on the list:
http://www.targus.com/us/ipad/slimcase.aspx

TUAW has a nice overview of the rest of their lineup for the 2012 iPad: http://www.tuaw.com/2012/03/07/targus-welcomes-the-next-generation-ipad-with-seven-new-cases/

Leather backing from Zagg. Smart cover. "Nearly Naked".

Although the top end Zagg folio is really nice for the "turn your ipad into a laptop" masses.

This is a great deal on a basic cover. 1) any place for a stylus (not sure if I'm going to get one...never used on before) and 2) wonder when it will come out for the New Ipad?
