Is there some info regarding this scaling you are referring to? I hate scaling...a lot.

This article is what I'm referencing. They didn't notice any blurriness but it's not like they had a lot of time with it.

I'm not. Look at the iPad Air. You'd think performance would lag given that it's barely clocked any higher than the iPhone 5s, but nope. Performance is better, it throttles less due to its size despite pushing vastly more pixels. The 6 has a comparative cakewalk.

The iPad Air does not create an image larger than the display and then downscale it. The above Ars article did say this about the 6+:

some UI animations and transitions seemed to be a little choppier than they are on the iPhone 6 or our iPhone 5S—we’ll need to wait for our full review to see just how the A8 chip handles the resolution change.

I'm less concerned about performance because I think that will improve with OS updates. I'm more concerned about the sharpness of the 6+ display. My tech OCD would keep me constantly looking for blurriness ;)

IMO the 6+ 1920x1080 display is a temporary bridge to a 2208×1242 one when it becomes financially viable for Apple. I wouldn't be surprised to see a higher density display on an iPhone 7+ so it can display everything at 'native' 3x.

The "Should I get the 6 or 6 Plus?" struggle thread (stay positive)

Easy sizing: The top of the display on the iP6 is just above the front camera on the iP5. Easy reach, no problem.

Thats easy. $100 for 48 extra gigs...no brainer. With App sizes and any amount of music, pictures or video, you'll want it.

Glad you said this. It is an east reach for me to get just above the camera.

As far as storage goes I've always had no problem with 16gb. Maybe I've embraced the cloud? I just did a very minor cleanup up and now I have 3gb left. I feel like I won't even come close to needed 64gb but it would be nice....dammit another decision.

Edit: now 3.5 gb and I could definitely get more space if I tried easily. Okay maybe this will be an easy decision.

I had our engineering department make a mockup of both the 6 and 6 plus using the dimensions on the Apple site. Made with a 3-D printer.

I am carrying around the 6 plus in my pocket like I do my 5. So far it feels fine. I know it's there when I sit but I can still get it out of my pocket without much problem.

I am leaning toward the 6 Plus.

Can we see some pics?

I'm not buying one of those on paper and advertisements. I'll have to try them first in-hand and see if the sidebars in the bigger screen are really worth it before I can really make a choice, so there's no pre-order for me.

Plus, nobody seems to care about this spec, but I'm still awaiting for their SAR-values.

Your last point is highly unlikely, more likely is that Apple have started to adopt the more standard resolutions that everyone else uses. The next upgrade will be I expect Quad HD.

Yay... more time creating 3 sizes of my graphics, 30 combinations of app icon sizes, and now 4 versions of screenshots in every language for my apps instead of time spent coding...

I see what you mean. I guess at Quad HD and other higher resolutions pixels would be so small that scaling really wouldn't be noticeable.

Like Android then....

Yes except much less hardware fragmentation to deal with beyond screen size/layout... thank goodness.

For now, still more manageable than the Android platform.

I'd rather Apple build some code on their side so I could just submit with my vectors and they scale it for each display size for me and just inject the proper sizes into the bundle.

The biggest phone is .379 pounds and the size of a king-size candy bar. Am I missing something here? It seems the word "phablet" has garnered such a negative connotation that mere millimeters cause alarm. But now the struggle.

I think here's the perspective we don't have that I've been mulling over. How many Android users happily go about their day-to-day - including exercise and transportation - with their 5"+ phones? They've technically tested the waters for us for the past few years and the whole reason phones this size are only increasing in popularity seems to be because the size is not only manageable, but it offers a whole new life to your phones interface/display.

Big difference between 5" and 5.5" IMO 5" would've been perfect.

Except the performance is not exactly better. iPad Air isn't as smooth as iPhone 5, let alone iPhone 5s. Try rotating the screen when the keyboard is on. Animation stutters. Try rotating the screen in App store. Crappy animation again. Try opening Siri. Crappy blurring animation AGAIN...

All those examples are buttery smooth on 5s and even 5.

Get the 6 Plus and you can live without an iPad

Nah. Phone when outside the home (whether 6 or 6 plus).

Ipad Air for use at home.

There's a huge difference between a regular ipad screen and even the 6 plus.

id use the 6+ for most of my stuff .. and my iPad air only to stream tv shows and stuff when I'm commuting because of unlimited data

I used the Ipad Air for reading books (via Kindle app). So the Plus is still too small for that.

I put my phone down when I get home from work and use the iPad (unless I need to look at work emails at home).

iOS 6 was much smoother than iOS 7.

I really hope iOS 8 addresses the performance issues.

So honestly the only thing I am worried about between the two is the screen. I want to know if the iPhone 6+ screen will be that much better than the iPhone 6. Will we be able to notice the difference. Now I know some will say you can't tell the difference in a screen that same, but I can tell you from experience. The HTC One M7, and Nexus 5 both had clearer screens. Text was smoother on both than the iPhone 5s I have now. The colors are still better on the iPhone, but just pure clarity those both are better. Will that be true with the 6+? If it is then I think it would be worth it for me.

The other stuff like the battery don't matter to me. I know the 6+ has a bigger battery, but that bigger screen will suck a lot battery. The new landscape features are nothing that special to me, and camera. The screen is the main thing.

This guy took it to a whole new level!

lmao!!

Thank you so much for bringing up this point. I was already swayed toward the iphone 6, but I had never thought if this. I too hate scaling blurriness like in the rMBP if you use anything other than "Best for Retina".

It wouldn't surprise me if in benchmark tests that the 6 doesn't work out quicker & the same in real life. After all it has a lot less pixels to push that aren't scaled.

The more I've thought on this the more I am persuaded to get the 6, plus it's cheaper.;)

Part of the reason I am leaning towards the 4.7" is future upgrades. Say Apple comes out with a 5" iPhone 7, great that will be a good upgrade after a 4.7. Once you go to the 5.5" in you can't go down in size. Think about going back to the 3.5" screen after having a 4" screen, it looks tiny now.

4.7" seems like a good upgrade now and leaves a good opening for another upgrade in the future rather than being stuck on sticking with a giant screen size (plus maybe they can make it more LG 3 like dimensions by then which will be much easier to hold etc.).

I was so set on the 4.7 before the announcement just like everyone else and the keynote definitely has made me weight the options.
