6 plus advantages for me: better screen. Better camera. Better apps (iPad like apps), better battery.

6 advantages for me: smaller and easier to workout with/handle/ operate etc

It seems like a no brainer but I'm still torn.

I was thinking a lot, but im settled for 4.7, im sorry but in a busy environment to use 5.5 will be too difficult and awkward, not to mention to keep it in your pocket while on holidays etc.
Even just to take a quick photo, 4.7 much more convenient.
Im upgrading from 4S with its tiny 3.5 screen, so for me 4.7 will be a god send already :) no need for even bigger :p
just my 2 c

An interesting parallel for me is "cameras".

I never want my primary "phone/device" to get to a size where I'm debating about taking it with me due to convenience.
That has killed me with cameras in the past (the old "the best one is the one with you" thing).

I'm really worried that even if I found a way to "make it work" with the 5.5", it would get to the point where I'd no longer just always reach for it and take it with me like I currently do with a 4" iPhone.

Ahhh the "Paradox Of Choice"!
Someone here said it somewhere as a joke "I miss the days apple used to make decisions for us and we had to live with it" and I have to say I do too. I don't like how now its splintering with different options. Now we have the option to make the "wrong" personal choice or to over think it. Do I want the more PPI screen, bigger battery and Image stabilizer? YES! Do I want the 5.5" screen... mehh not really for a phone.

I have the 4s and ios8 just isn't made for that size screen so its time to upgrade and I will be Preordering asap. I have two days to make a decision and then live with it. Is there really a wrong answer? No not really I just wish I didn't have to make one hah.

I also am concerned that the performance may lag because of the processor power needed to render a larger display image with subsequent downscaling.

I'm going with the 4.7" iPhone 6 because of Apple not going with a higher pixel density display for the 6+ making downscaling unnecessary.

I'm not. Look at the iPad Air. You'd think performance would lag given that it's barely clocked any higher than the iPhone 5s, but nope. Performance is better, it throttles less due to its size despite pushing vastly more pixels. The 6 has a comparative cakewalk.

If I was upgrading from a 4/4s I would definitely go for the 6 because of the overall jump in specs and size. That's a solid upgrade.

I have a basic 5. For me the extra 0.7" in the 6 isn't enough to justify the upgrade because my 5 works really well and I plan to keep it as a backup since it's unlocked. However, that doesn't mean the 6 isn't an upgrade in general. It's basically to me in my mind a larger 5s.

The 6+ would be a much greater jump for me because of the screen size and added features. More than the camera, the battery life is important for me. I won't have to have a mophie juice pack. And as for the camera, I can just use the phone to supplement my dslr. I have large hands which really trump the 5/5s so the 6+ will be fine for me. Actually, when I need to do serious work very quickly I use two hands on my 5 already and have issues with typing as it is.

Literally my only gripe about the size is what to do when I'm at the gym. That would literally be the only major reason I would prefer the 6 over the 6+ and even then the 5 is better suited for that anyway. I need to just get over it and get used to the larger size. A 5" screen would've been the sweet spot for me.

I also already have a mini retina LTE and I was originally concerned with the 6+ interfering with my use of that. But I use the mini primarily for reading and testing iPad apps as well as more for sharing things with others in a group setting. Whereas I would still use the 6+ for calls, texts, quick emails, etc. Maybe I'm just trying to justify things. Who knows, the 6 and ipad mini would still work, but I don't think the 6+ and mini are redundant if you have specific uses for each.

Exactly - that's what I did and I made a stupid video here:

Great video! Not stupid at all. Very helpful, actually. This is exactly what I did. Mounted the template on cardboard and then proceeded to carry it around and handle it like I do my 5. And, as I said in an earlier post, it only took a couple hours of doing that before the template started feeling like the "normal" size and the 5 started feeling extremely small.

I'd go even a step further and keep the cardboard 5.5" in your pocket and take it everywhere outside the house too.

Took me just one hour of walking around with the 5.5" in my pocket to realize it was too unwieldy for me.

SUPERB when out and using it - Too much of a pain to transport (for my usage)

Agree. That's exactly what I did (and continue to do) and for ME the 6 Plus is not too big. But again, having the physical template to manipulate makes all the difference if you're planning on pre-ordering. It'll swing your decision one way or the other for sure.

And again: Apple's return policy is very liberal, so if you get the 6 Plus, use it for a week and feel it's too big you can just take it back to Apple and exchange for the smaller 6. No harm, no foul.

I made myself a promise when it appeared clear there would be two sizes that I would wait until I could walk in to a Verizon store and handle both. I'm ready for an upgrade but I'm going to wait a few weeks and handle the merchandise first.

For sure!

Only risk with doing the return/change your mind thing is how long you may then end up waiting to get the other model.

WOW - what a great idea!! Especially since I added the 6oz weights to it,
It will be a super real test.

I also called the Apple store and as most people here already know, if you do not like the iPhone 6 PLUS, you can bring it to them for an exchange! I think that really helps to make up my mind to go for the 6 PLUS,

To me the problem with this thinking (I've been doing it as well) is that the device is your "phone" - i.e. you're always transporting it.

I think most everyone (myself included) *wants* everything about the 6+ ...

...then we all realize what a pain it will always be to get it from point a to b all day long.

Bumming me out, but the rational part of me is starting to strongly lean towards the 4.7"

well.... I currently carry both my phone and my mini with me most places.

when I come to work I bring both. they sit on my desk.

when i go shopping i usually carry both (depending on which purse). so if anything, NOT taking the mini will make my purse lighter!

i do see it being an issue possibly when going to the zoo, an amusement park, something like that... as i have a spi belt and i'm not sure the 5.5 will fit in there? however since i may go places like that 4 or 5 times a year i don't guess it's an issue.

another casualty is a cute coach crossbody purse i bought that my 5 fits into perfectly with just enough room for keys, ID & a credit card or couple dollars. :( but that will be a casualty even with the smaller phone.

if i do end up hating it, you can all say "i told you so!"

OH.... and i'll just have to buy a new iphone 6+ sized crossbody for those days i want just a purse & phone!!!! :p :p :p (whatever excuse it takes to get a new purse!)

Damn the iPhone 6 plus looks huge in lee Anns hand. I'm torn on which to buy. Ugh. I hope it isn't that much heavier.

Nice video. Can you comment on how it felt when you sat down with it in your pocket? Particularly with jeans (did it feel tight to the extent that you were afraid you'd break it if sitting down too abruptly or something) or dress slacks? Does it fit ok in the inside pocket of a suit jacket?

I'm really not afraid of it feeling too bulky in my hands when using it...my concern is totally transport and comfort when it's in my pocket.

The iPhone 6 Plus is almost identical to the size of a checkbook. Throw your checkbook in your pocket or hold it up to your face.

Like so many others I can't make up my mind. I was leaning towards the 6+, but when I printed off the sheet that lets you compare sizes, I see exactly how big it is. So now, I'm leaning towards the 6.

Let me ask this question though. I have never returned a cell phone. I will be buying from Apple directly. If I get the 6 and am disappointed and decide I really would rather have the 6+, what is the return policy for phones? How does returning the phone effect my 2 year contract and my upgrade eligibility?

phone screen comparison with Note 3 with Iphone 6 Plus. even though it looks misaligned in the picture , trust me its aligned.

edited: correct scaled image.

I think the cutout still not up to scale. The 6 plus seems to be even taller/bigger than the note 3.

Edit: Printed the template with scaling to page. Printed it correctly and the Plus is ginormous. Can't do it.

My checkbook is larger than the dimensions of the 6 Plus. I put my iPhone 5 in the checkbook and at least with dress khakis it's not too big. I'll need to start using my old iPod nano for the gym though. Still not sure. The iPhone 6 is low risk, it's barely bigger than the iPhone 5, but then there's risk in regrets over not buying the phone with the higher end features and battery life. Sigh ...

Edit: my other thought is imagine the 6 Plus with a heavy duty case on it... I don't use them but many people do...

The 6 Plus is about the same size as the ridged notebook that my dad carried with him every day all day as a reporter and then editor on the Oregonian. He wore a suit and was a tall, thin man. He never had any trouble with that notebook. I don't anticipate any trouble with the 6 Plus.

Go big or go home, people.

Just when you print the templates - make sure your printer settings aren't scaling it and it's doing actual size or no scaling.

I don't think I can do the big one. It's just not pocketable. I want one tho~! LOL Damnit.
