Like many, I am very torn. I feel like the 4.7 isn't quite big enough for me, but yet the 5.5 just seems to unnecessarily big. Last upgrade I considered a galaxy s3 or a note but couldn't bring myself to deal with the headache of android. I really like the 5.5 screen, but carrying it in my pocket is a concern. And then , if you slap a case on it, you are really adding bulk. I wish apple would have released a 5 in model and shrunk the bezels down. Doesn't seem like the designers out a whole lot of effort into it... Maybe they were to busy with the watch

I can see lots of people ordering both sizes and then just returning the size they do not want since it doesnt cost them anything - causing more refurb stock....
Not really a very fair strategy. Although I do agree Apple should have display models in the stores straight after the Keynote.....

This is asinine. These are two really expensive (albeit great) phones. People buy these cell phones with 2 year contracts for hundreds of dollars, or off contract for even more. You're not talking about buying a medium and large t-shirt and just returning the other one.

I was set on the 4.7 before most of the launch. The launch got me thinking about the 6 Plus.

The thing is, as a device, when you are focused on the device, the 6 plus is obviously better. In the hands on after the keynote, people said it isn't so big after all. No, it is not too big to use. It's a great size to use. A full size iPad is a terrific size to use too!

The problem is transporting the device.

When I get to work or my destination, I would enjoy having a 6 Plus. However, I have concerns about comfortably getting it to my destination. I also have concerns about being able to get it out and use in a crowded place.

Therefore, while my heart tugs for the 6 Plus, I believe I must choose the one I know I will be able to easy transport and get out of my pocket even in extreme locations, on a ski lift, etc.

I currently have the iPhone 5. I was dead set on the iPhone 6 Plus during the keynote. Now I am starting to waiver on that. I want the bigger screen size. My concern is the pocket-ability of it. I work out a lot. Keep my iPhone in my pocket while lifting weights. Keep it on the treadmill while running. So only the weight lifting part would be an issue there. At work, I keep my current iPhone in my shirt pocket. Using the cut-out, the iPhone 6 would fit, the iPhone 6 Plus would stick up past the pocket about 3/4" preventing me from closing the top flap of the pocket (uniform shirt). I think I could find a way to manage at the gym, like an arm band, etc. My carrying it at work is really my only concern. I want the bigger screen, better battery, better camera. Just don't know yet if I can make myself get it for the transporting problems. Still gotta work that out.

My main concern over those issues is a case. I currently use an Otterbox Commuter on the 5. If I get a similar style case, the 6 Plus will be gianormous!

Also, the durability of such a large phone. I would be worried about it flexing and breaking the screen in my pants pocket (even in the front).

Before the announcement I was dead set on the 4.7. After the announcement I got caught up in the features, and thought that I wouldn't have a need for an iPad anymore. In the long run, I think 4.7 is a good middle ground so that's what I'll get. Now I just don't know if I want 16 or 64GB.

Also saw that, in addition to ~5.2" Nexus X (at 565 ppi [damn!]), the S6 will be pushing 5.3-5.5". Appears Apple squarely targeted an iPhone that would match up squarely against these competitors. And an iPhone just big enough to convert Phablet users, too.

Sub 5" iPhones may be relics after the next product cycle.

Also, I've always liked the "idea" of working out with my iPhone in tow. However, even the 5S is just too big, sweat susceptible, and pain with headphones, for any intense workout beyond a jog. 5S saw a couple workouts/runs, but the habit just wouldn't stick.

Current Note 3 user here and wanted to add my two cents. Also as some back ground, I'm a 25 year old male and roughly 5'10. I would consider myself having small hands (I'll update later with a measurement).

After watching the keynote I plan on moving back to Apple as I previously had an iphone4s and miss the integration with ipad and Mac. I truly believe Samsung did a better job on their one hand made with the Note 3 than apples double click on the plus.

The being said, the note 3 is still too big for my day to day use. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome watching videos or playing games. However even with the one handed modes, it requires too many hand gymnastics to get a task done. It's definitely a tough decision because there are times when both sizes can have their benefits. However, I find myself needing one hand operation more often than enjoying the large screen .

Also take into account exercising, I use an arm band with the note 3 and is just too unwieldy for me.

This is all just my preferences, but I will be going to the 4.7 iPhone 6 based off my note 3 experience. Every one is different and have different needs, Just wanted to share my opinion. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Would you feel differently about Note 3 were it as slim as the Plus? I didn't think, for example, iPad Air would be that different based on the number, but actual use felt a lot better.

Really wish that the 6 had a 1080p screen and OIS like the Plus, but I think that the Plus would've been way to big.
Personally I wish they released a 5" model with a 1080p screen, in the iPhone 5 Slate color. That would've been perfect

I printed out one of the paper templates...

1) The 6+ would fit in all my work pants. It would be a tighter fit in most of my jeans, but I think it would work. I generally keep my phone and wallet in one pocket and keys in the other - I would have to have a phone pocket and wallet pocket from now on

2) IMO, neither the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+ are as easy to use with one hand as previous iPhones. The 6 appears easier, but the "thumbabilility" of both phones is less than previous models

Given this, I am still leaning towards a 64G 6+ in black. To me, if you are going to deviate from the time-tested iPhone width, you may as well get the biggest phone possible that is easy to transport - for me, that is the 6+

I wanted the 6 as well, but no 1080p screen is a deal breaker as is the camera. I'm going to purchase the 5.5". If it's too big I am getting the Moto X (gen2). I wish Apple could have done something with the bezels to make the phones smaller.

I have been having this dilemma as I REALLY want the OIS, and would love the extra battery. What I do know is that even for the 1 week I tested and Samsung Galaxy S5 which I IIRC has a 5.1" screen I found many times the phone was a tad too big to fit into pockets and "valuables" pockets in like my golf bag, or mountain bike backpack. That being said, I see the only thing I'm losing with a 4.7" is OIS which with my 5s I don't have an issue with blurry photos, and battery. The 4.7 is improved over the 5s and obviously the 5.5 over the 4.7, but I've survived no problem with my 5s and improvement is improvement. And statistically there's only large improvement for talk time with the phone. When do we really talk on the phone any more these days. I'd rather be able to keep my phone in my hands or a pocket and not worry about dropping my iPhablet.

Pros / Gains in 4.7 over 5.5
Fits in my pocket
True one handed use
Working out/running with it

Cons / Losing in 4.7 or 5.5
OIS
Some battery life
PPI
-6 days standby
-2hrs LTE/3G browsing
-1hr Wifi browsing
-30hr Audio
-3hr video

Pros / Gaining in 4.7 over 5s
A8
M8
Camera gains
HD Retina
NFC
Battery
Screen size
+1hrs 3G browsing
+1hr Wifi browsing
+10hr Audio
+1hr video

I can deal with the battery, I'm already used to it and with IOS 8 we can now monitor our battery usage. I want what the 5.5 has to offer, but not in a 6" phone.

Just my quick .02

I was thinking about the 6 plus, but am settling on the 6(128gb). I like holding my phone knowing that it is secure and although the 5.5 phone is better to hold than most others, the way i use my 5s now and have always used my smartphones(3gs, 4s, htc one, moto x) is with one hand and very rarely using two hands. That and it goes in my pocket a lot, which I can definitely feel at times. Also my phone is my music device.

This is what people do though... Remember the "gold" "I GOTTA HAVE IT but cant be without the 5S for more than 24 hours so I'll buy a gray and return it"???

Asinine right?

If people can afford it, there is NO doubt in my mind that it will happen.

It may not happen a lot, but it WILL happen.

i have the 64 gb 5. (and it's almost full!)

before the keynote i was deadset on the 4.7 and i thought the 5.5 was ridiculous.

even after the keynote i was planning on the 4.7. i made the comment to my boss that i didn't need the bigger phone, if i wanted to do things on a bigger screen i had my ipad mini.

well then last night it hit me: 98% of what i do with my iphone is apps and internet. i rarely talk on the phone. if i do it's quick to call hubby, in the car hands free, or to call my parents using a wireless earbud. i don't really use the phone at all!

so if i have the 5.5 i don't need to carry the mini. yes, i know a lot of you came to that conclusion a while ago.... i guess i was just slow!

AND they hubby really wants my cellular mini. i was supposed to get the retina mini when it came out but decided against it. he ended up with my mom's original mini (non cellular) when she wanted my space on hers and got the retina! since i don't plan to carry it, but rather just use it around the house, at work, or in the car (i don't consider that carrying it as it won't be in my purse).... i'm considering the next ipad air!

my phone regardless of physical size will most definitely be 128 gb.

after printing out the template, I think I'm even MORE leaning toward the 6 over the 6+

I'm sure one day I'll have a giant phone/tablet thingy but I think I'll get the smaller one while they're still making them!

I cut out the 6 and 6 plus from card stock and I've been holding them in my hand, putting them in my pocket, etc.

Yes, the 6 plus is way bigger... but not as obtrusive as I thought. My plan is to sell my Mini and buy the 6 plus, for 2 main reasons:
  • Battery life
  • Shake reduction in camera

Battery life is the biggest complaint I have with my current 5s. I love the idea of a phone that can easily last more than one day with normal usage.

With the resolution of the 6 plus, the Mini seems redundant.

I think this strategy was risky for Apple, and I applaud them for going with it. It might result in large sales for the 5.5".

However the risk lies in the fact that there would be many like me, who are considering not upgrading from a 5 or 5S, because:

a) the 5.5" has the features I want, but is too big

b) next to the 5.5", the 4.7" doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, considering the price ($1000 AUD+)

If the 4.7 had the features of the 5.5, it would be a no-brainer.

It's only missing one feature though, you really need optical image stabilization that bad? (Besides battery life)

I went into yesterday announcements thinking I'd get the 4.7" phone, but since then I've been weighing the advantages of the 6+ over the 6 in my head. I currently do not have an iPad mini, so perhaps the 6+ could fill that void. I can't say for sure that I need the extra battery life, but it definitely would be nice to have. Then again, I had the 4.7" Droid X and it would definitely be the largest I'd want my phone to be.

Additionally, I definitely want more than 16GB in my next phone, so seeing that 16GB was still the standard storage while removing 32GB entirely was definitely disappointing. App sizes are steadily increasing and I only have 1.5GB available without the majority of my music collection on the phone.

I got my note 3 thinking i wouldnt need a tablet. I ended up getting an iPad anyways, the note 3 is just too small.

But for a phone the two things i didnt like about my note 3 is having the huge phone in my pocket while at the gym, and trying to take pictures with one hand.

I think ill just get the 4.7 although i want OIS. I hope battery life isnt too huge of a downgrade.
