Maybe (hopefully) they - EA - will do what they just did with spore, and release the same game on the same disc for the different os's =]
I hope they do xD

But lets hope we can install it more than 3 times, unlike spore.

I think that is what they will do since EA and Apple are partnered now. And hopefully they will do the same licensing as with the Sims 2 where you can install it on unlimited computers unless it is a Direct Download form the online EA Store.:):apple:

I can't wait for the new sims 3!

I had at once had a powerbook g4 and played the sims on it then because my powerbook died because a friend spilled a lot of water on it i had to get a dreaded PC and moved up to the sims 2 which has been good! But i want to buy one of the new macbook 13 inch laptops because i cant afford the macbook pro 15 inch laptops, but I'm worried if i buy it now that i might have to upgrade to the macbook pro later on! i was wondering if you had any ideas?

New macbook 13" has a 256MB Video Card and new macbook pro 15" has a 256-512MB card! that's the only difference that i see besides the screen size which doesn't bother me, i just want a new mac laptop!!!:apple:

Yeah, dude

The new MacBook will play the Sims 3 fine I think

I Think it will but still not sure!

By the looks of it because apple has finally given the macbook a dedicated graphics card that it may run it! the macbook has a 256, I'm guessing because most people don't have a 256 or better video card that it will require a 128 because by following the sims games the first sims took 32mb i think, the second was 64mb or better, I'm guessing that the third will be 128 or 256mb, i know the processor should be able to handle it and the game may just take 512mb ram! I wish EA Would post the specs earlier for those of us that want to upgrade but are having to wait for the final information! Thank you for replying, i didn't think that anyone would respond because this was kinda old topic, well not old old but it hasn't been replied to in a while! i also was wondering if iwork is basically a better a smaller version of Microsoft office because i use PowerPoint and word, sometimes publisher for school projects.:apple::)

Please show some info that it's being released simultaneously on the same date. I hope you didn't just waste your money (unless of course you are running bootcamp/parallels).

How do you know?

And how exactly do you know that it will be released like Spore on the same DVD, I can understand you thinking that because Spore is made by Maxis and EA which are the same company's that make The Sims.

I talked to several people at a few ebgames who said ,according to their computer, it's going to be for both systems. Granted they could be saying anything, but I'll find out soon enough.

well if you go to the sims 3 site the only details they have in there are for windows. we might have to wait.

so excited for the sims 3! hope they release the Mac and PC version on one disk like Spore

They are releasing it for mac but they arent doing it in one disk, it is going to be in 3-4 months time or something after Feb 19th.
The game has high graphics but it should work for your computer if sims 2 works. I asked the guy at the game store he said it comes on feb 19th not 20th and he also said the release for mac is unknown but another website said it was being made.

im going to have to disagree with all of you saying it'll come out on anything other than the same day it releases for windows (if not on the same disk)

sims have ALWAYS been mac oriented, spore was proof that they care about mac gaming just as much if not more on our platform.

I'm really exited about this game. I hope it will run on my mini :) probibly not though. Someone posted that sims 2 can only run on Mac pro??

I'm kinda thinking now that it might be better if they release it later so they can make a ver. of it that doesnt work through Cider or something similar as games don't run as smooth through Cider in my opinion.

The Sims games are great, but the Mac versions have traditionally been terribly programed on the mac and are insane memory hogs. If they don't do something special with this one I will probably just ignore it. Even The Sims 2 ran terribly on my MacBook Pro...

Copied from a yahoo answers page

"The Sims 3's release date has been made official finally.
It's February 20 2009 in Europe, America and everywhere else in the world, excluding poorer countries.
This is for all the PCs and OSs, for Mac, Windows etc....

Anyway here is something that you might want to know!

Sims 3 won't launch any expansion packs at release.

Fortunately, you won't be forced to buy an entire expansion pack, instead, you choose what to buy.
EA will launch a site where you select the things you want to buy, and then you get exactly what you want and pay for only that thing.

For example:
- I only like the cars from Sims 2 Nightlife.
- And I only like the robots from Sims 2 Open For Business.
So now, instead of spending a lot of money on 2 expansions, you can now simply buy the cars from Nightlife and the robots from Open For Business. Letting you save so much more money!

The Sims 2 works ok on my iBook G4...I have no expansion packs on there and it is playable (it does run slower on lots with bigger houses and more sims though).

Confused

Okay, wait so I'm confused..I don't know much about computers at all, but I love The Sims and I always have. I have a realllly old PC (It's a dell) and I just got my Mac last June (2008)..I don't even know what "kind" it really is, it's the black one...so The Sims 3 will be out for a Mac? But then I read people saying it will only work on a Macbook pro? :[ that makes me sad because I just bought this one not too long ago!

Hey there, the Sims 3 game will be a universal disk, which means it'll work for PC & Mac.

You say that you have an iMac, from how you describe it I believe it is the aluminum one with the black bezel? In the iMac line there were 4 choices (in 2008) There is 20" 2.4GHz, 20" 2.66GHz, 24" 2.8GHz, 24" 3.0GHz.

I think you'll probably be able to play the game fairly well on any of these iMacs, you may have to lower the graphics slightly if you have the 2.4GHz one, but I'll think you'll definitely be able to run it :)

Probably because the only member of the Mac family that can handle the Sims 2 in all its glory (5+ story custom lots, community lots with 15+ sims at once) is the Mac Pro - so people just want to be able to play Sims 2 for now.

This, truth on its bearest

Edit -

Here is list of supported graphic cards for Macs:

NVIDIA GeForce series
7300, 7600
8600, 8800
9400M, 9600M GT
GT 120, GT 130

ATI Radeon(TM) series
X1600, X1900
2400, 2600
3870,
4850, 4870

Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA)
GMA 3-Series

Man don't worry you either have a black MacBook/ laptop or a iMac/ desktop which will both run it fine.:apple:

I'm under the impression that the Sims 3 will work on my 2.4ghz white MacBook, 2GB ram, GMA X3100? I'm not too bothered about graphics quality but does anyone have any opinions on whether it will run well at all? I was pretty excited to see that it should work, just hope to a reasonable degree! :)
