Having been around when this crowd referred to everything above the originally "perfect" size of 3.5" as "abominations", "stupid" and "99% don't want" and then watching them shift to 4" and deem everything above 4" as "abominations" "stupid", and "99% don't want", I find the whole shift to 4.7" as the third new "perfect" hilarious. But, even more so, I can't hardly imagine this crowd seeing the 5.5" as an attractive hook in support of an iPhone 7 upgrade.

Personally, I don't see the 5.5" as being an "upgrade" for everyone. I think it makes sense for only those that find best (personal) utility in that size phone. I can see 4.7" and 4" and 3.5" as being best for some (but not me). That's one of the reasons I hope for both and not just one. I think choices for consumers of all sizes and subjective desires is much better than one-size-fits-all thinking.

If 5.5" is held back for the 7, I just don't see it as having the same fundamental pull as 4" did when 3.5" was "perfect" and now 4.7" seems to be when 4" is the current "perfect". 5.5" will be too big for many. But so will 4.7" and yet this crowd seems to have mostly run across that bridge and let go of prior "abominations" slung, etc.

Would this not be considered a leak? Sure you can make the argument that you can't verify this is for an Apple product- but you can't verify any of the 4.7" leaks have been for Apple products. A lot of 'cloned' products float around the supply chain.

At this point in time I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a 4.7" even if a 5.5" is released but I truly hope they release a 5.5" for all those who want one.

That is just plain glass (maybe Sapphire) rectangular pieces. No black/white boarders (bezels), no cut out for the Touch ID home button.

Here is the 4.7" panel that MKBHD did a video on. It has black bezels, home button cutout and the rounded edges. Everything consistent with other iPhone 6 (4.7") rumors and leaks.

Last time Tim Cook was asked about a bigger display iPhone, he said that they are not going to do it as long as they haven't solved the one handed use problem. I am pretty sure they can do that for the 4,7" model, but not for the 5,5" one.
Apple will not make a 5,5" iPhone, at least not yet. Don't wait for it and don't get disappointed when you see Tim announcing a 4,7" iPhone.

I think you're comparing two different things... The LCD which is actually what displays the image and the front glass panel. The LCD isn't supposed to have cut outs for a home button, rounded edges, etc.

The two are put together as seen here:

You are correct. I thought the story was referencing glass... not actual LCD.

But... in any case... that could be a 5.5" screen for some Android phone. There is no way to tell.

Which makes me think that Apple have been working on this for a while. But like i've said, i'm 50% on there being a 5.5" iPhone.

In an interview Tim Cook said this "What we've said is that until the technology is ready, we don't want to cross that line. That doesn't say we'll never do it. We want to give our customers what's right in all respects – not just the size but in the resolution, in the clarity, in the contrast, in the reliability. There are many different parameters to measure a display and we care about all those, because we know that's the window to the software."

Exactly. That makes me think that Apple will only release a 4,7" model.

The fact John Gruber has been sounding off a couple of times on his podcast that he doubts a 5.5" iPhone is coming makes me think it's definitely not going to happen. Let's hope it doesn't happen and Apple focuses on making a sensibly sized model as awesome as possible.

According to my source, there will be and It will be called an iPhat.

On the other hand tho, I do hope they only make the 4.7 version. Really hate the fact that the 5.5 (if any) would be more superior than the other.

That's true, but it's still an increase in screen size, which to me sounds like Apple have found a solution to the problems they believe exist with big screen phones.

Ahhh. Remember the day when the iPhone was in peoples hands to BUY iTunes music and sell apps?

Get more iPhones (with more choices in size), in more peoples hands and make more iTune $ales. Without size choices, a portion of the market will go to Samsung and HTC (I did). I get my music from Amazon Which I LOVE and my refundable apps from Androids Play Store.

The phone is just a tool, and they typically dont last much more than 1.5 years anyway - at least for me. Now my iPad on the other hand..

Prol not the same for everybody, but nice Samsung add at the top of the page BTW! Makes me want to get a large Samsung (Which if I want to, I can - because of choices). But im not getting rid of my HTC one max anytime soon, as I just dont see Apple FINALLY tearing into the larger phone market.........Yet. Give them 2-3 years, and that many lost years in app and iTune sales. Which by then, they can come out with a 5.5" phone that only a select group will purchase. Unless you can sell the phone as the 'Greatest thing in the world" ( which Apple knows how to do) and *maybe* small hand/tight jean kids will be "forced" to Have to have it - to only have the latest Apple product (which Apple knows how to do - as well).

WSJ, Bloomberg, and Re/Code (headed by Walt Mossberg) all have confirmed the 4.7 and 5.5 inch phones. All three are very reputable, and have a great track record of having controlled leaks from Apple.

I'd say it's pretty much confirmed.

I have not seen any such confirmation from Re/Code?

The smaller panels in the above pics are definitely 5/5S panels (Unless the home button suddenly got a lot bigger). So the question is, what's the size of the larger panel next to them. Someone needs to upscale the 5/5S panel to 4" diagonal on their monitor, then measure the larger panel. Would not be shocked if it comes in around 4.7"

For reference, this is what a 4.7 panel looks like next to a 5S:

Just get a Note 4. It will be better in every way.

The guy who thinks knives and keys will scratch a screen? I like him.
