Green Day? Are they still trying to be relevant. What's with the fake (just like their supposed "punk" band status) English accent? They are horrible to say the least.

Green Day hasn't been relevant since Dookie. Maybe Nimrod, but that would be a stretch. I for the most part agree with their politics, but how many "OMG Bush sucks!!!!" songs do we need, and they're already obsolete. At least Rage Against The Machine's political messages will be relevant for years to come.

and the one guest and a band thing is interesting as opposed to having two guests and a band like he used to.

I think its just temporary. Hes showing a lot of clips about moving to LA and learning about the city, so i suppose that once he runs out of material for that he will bring in 2 guests.

Holy crap, second show, back to form.

Hitting Tom Hanks with a meteorite, and the Twitter bit were amazing.

"You can't beat that jam!!"

:D

I hope Conan will keep doing the "We took a camera crew, and, well, check out what happened" things, but I don't wanna get too many so I get worn out. When he was walking down the street, I thought that was one of the funniest moments in television history. :D

I've been watching since I watched him on Late Night. I want to see how Conan is doing in a couple of weeks. His first weeks will be almost like his shows done at different location (Toronto, Chicago..) Crowd craziness, more remote pieces.

Once he settles and the shows are more standard, then people can see if they want to watch him. I personally like his craziness, but I know it might turn off people used to Leno's style.

I guess that I am one of those people. Conan has never seemed at all funny to me, and a total waste of time; his first shows have not changed my opinion of him. We shall see what happens...

I've never really liked Conan in the past, but I tried watching him a couple times this week to see if he's any funnier. He just doesn't do it for me. I'm a Leno/Ferguson guy because they laugh at their own jokes and sometimes at themselves, even when they're not that funny, as opposed to the impression I get from Letterman and Conan where it doesn't seem like they think what they're saying is funny but everyone laughs anyways. Basically, it's about believing in the product you're selling.

I gotta admit, the Mario background thing was pretty funny. But FFS, it's not "Mary-oh", it's "Mahh-ree-oh".

Another thing I've noticed about the background is that he's pretty much standing up against a wall. Both Letterman and Leno have lots of space between themselves and the background, which is a city backdrop that gives even more depth. But Conan's just standing up against a wall. It's pretty and blue, but it's still a wall.

So many people get that wrong that i dont even notice it any more. Its like when people say "poke-eee-man" instead of "poke-eee-mon."
Yes, im a dork.

I assume you mean for the monologue, right? At Conan's desk there is a city background.
I like Coco's monologue backdrop. Its simple and unobtrusive. Fallon does his monologue in front of a black curtain, so Coco is at least doing better than him.

I watched his monologue tonight thinking that maybe he had gotten better. Not! That guy is just plain not funny. I think NBC made a huge mistake forcing out Leno, and they are probably realizing it about now.

Conan is way funnier than Leno ever could be. The only way Leno could tell jokes is making fun of stupid people on the street.

Then why does nobody but him laugh at his jokes (in a very lame attempt to save face), and they all fall flat? And why are his ratings so low? Leno was #1 in the time slot for years, Conan won't ever regain that; his show is almost consistently #3 and will stay that way until NBC has the good sense to can the guy.

Conan is on the upswing right now. Better guests and (sometimes) better bits. I guess some people just don't get his humor. Personally, the monologue is my least favorite part of any late night show. They're just plain stupid and filled with lame "topical" jokes. Conan is no different. He's gift is when he's thinking on his own and not using pre-written stupid jokes. I just wish they'd let Andy in on a little more. Leno used to put me to sleep with his boring vanilla schtick.

Now I see adds for his show where they're doing a writers meeting and he's doing the same dumb ****, "funny" newspaper headlines and ads. Really? No one else is tired of that now?

This really comes down to viewership. An older crowd likes Leno, a younger crowd likes Coco.

Apparently very few like Conan based on the ratings. Besides it is the "older crowd" that has the real money that the advertisers are all after.

It took Leno 2 years to get to number 1, and advertisers could care less about the older crowd, they want the 18-49 demo.

Leno was at NBC for the good years, thats the main reason he stayed number 1. It wasn't because his show was better than Letterman. Leno should not have ever gotten the Tonight Show job in the first place. Carson wanted Letterman to get the gig.

Well, I was a Conan fan when he came on after Leno. However, now he's had to tune down his acts and characters (like the masturbating bear). It's just boring. There's also less interaction with Max.

His regular and musical guests have been pretty bad too (and yes I know it's the summer, but still).

Leno comes back at 9/10 p.m. next week. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. For what it's worth, I like Leno. He just comes off as a nice guy.

Exactly. My vote is for Leno.

Agreed, they're still feeling out his role in that time slot. Of course they don't want to alienate the older viewers that were Leno devotees, but the younger crowd are the ones that spend the money on frivolous junk and bands I've never heard of. I think slowly but surely great bits will be back..

Conan will be fine, he has already improved since the first few weeks. The one that I don't see getting much better is Jimmy Fallon.
