That was a great episode. I have to admit, that maybe it's just that I'm a dumb ignorant American, but I never expected Vietnam to be that beautiful.

Speaking of dumb ignorant Americans, I was really hoping someone would have to ride the Bruce bike :D

I'm a bike fan and was dreading tonight's episode as although James and Richard are also bike fans Jeremy calls the shots and hates them. We escaped... looking rather good

I especially liked Richard's Minsk, I like old(er) bikes and have ridden a RT125 and it was terrible but an experience! Wouldn't like to travel the length of a country on one!

That was a brilliant episode in a series of nothing but brilliant episodes.

And my god, what a beautiful country and the people certainly seemed very friendly. That river paper lantern scene was pure magic.

I sincerely hoped that if one of them had broken down, they would have refused to ride it on the grounds that a country that had shown them such warmth, welcome and generosity should not be insulted by such a crass piece of crap.

Alas, if this was "Top Gear America", I am sure they would have done it just to be twits. (And for the record, I am a natural-born American citizen).

What an episode... i loved how James looked truly upset about his statue breaking and even at the very end he rescued his statue :D

Can't wait for the next series now, i love these road trips they do.

And Vietnam looks an awesome country, spectacular views. I have friends who went to Cambodia and Vietnam and they were telling me about the friendly people.

One thing i did notice, they said at the beginning about poor roads, they looked in better condition than they do here!!!!

It's made me look at biking in a different way.

Actually, might have given you a bum steer there. It starts at 7.45pm in some BBC2 regions???

Edit: I don't know what's going on. My Radio Times (Christmas edition) says 8pm and lasts an hour, BBC website says 1hr 15 from 7.45. You'd better check it out yourself for your part of the world, you've got no excuses for missing it again (and if you do there's always the iPlayer and if you know of a way to burn a copy off my V+ box then I'll send you it!)

That was a staggeringly good episode. And it was mostly about the guys and the country, not about cars, which speaks volumes about how good this show really is. For a car show to do an extended episode about three guys and a country, and make it one of their best yet, is just brilliant.

Did anyone else cringe every time they damaged their "presents", though? I absolutely loved that galleon JC bought for Hammond, and I have nearly cried every time it took a hit. It was all quite funny in the end, but all three pieces really were very nice works of art, and they were ruined for comedic value... that upset me a little bit. :/

But overall, one of Top Gear's best episodes. I love seeing the three guys at their best and worst... one reason I absolutely adore the endurance car race episode.

Jeremy got overruled this time - at last some motorbikes on Top Gear! :D
I'd love to see a shoot-out on the TG track - perhaps with an all-black Biker Stig™ ;)

The Vespa and Honda Cub have featured in my own biking life so nice to see some old friends again.
AFAIK Jeremy actually did his CBT* in the UK before filming in Vietnam, so it wasn't exactly true that he'd never ridden. Still, kudos to him for an epic journey and for so obviously enjoying it towards the end.
