what an episode!! i even enjoyed stat in a resonably priced car - ian wright was just mental!

i do want one of those remote controlled cars! i do think it is the only way i would ever own a ford scorpio!

that vanwall i think it s genius idea - im sure it will do prety well just for the fact that i dont beleive there are many like that in the market and people who like their older cars will love it. it did make a nice noise though!!!

and the audi rs4 - what can i say other than dribble dribble. :D

It was a Vanwall. Really :p

Ooooooh thanks!

This is so cool. I want one. (need to photoshop the old codger out of the pic i think)

Of course that's probably not my brightest idea, what with living in an inner London borough with only on-street parking... would it still be there, un-keyed, in the morning? :(

ooh hold on... on second thoughts...where am i supposed to put all my shopping bags?

Top class episode, the highlights for me were Ian Wright, a top bloke and the stunningly good RS4...

Jeremy Clarkson is a Legend,

Shadow

the man driving it in the picture looks like the market the car is aiming at!!

another thought - would he be suitable for the comb over test? its clearly failing in this car!

I saw this before in this thread and a like the attention to detail such as putting mudguards on but making them out of tires so it looks like it's still an open-wheeler.

isnt the whole thing that it is meant to be in british racing green for tradition? :)

I'm trying to break the tradition because I don't want to be labelled an old fart like the one in the photo

edit: here you go... :D

I thought the Scorpio looked better once they fixed the front end styling, kinda reminded me of the current Chrysler 300 (I may have the name wrong but it's the one they took to the beach near the end of the last series)

Looking forward to it, think it'll be more than 414BHP though?

Nope... it's rumoured to top out at the 400bhp mark, V8 though... up from a straight 6 because they'd pretty much maxed out (short of forced induction of course) the 6 with the CSL. ;)

I very much doubt the new M3 will get anywhere near the RS4 myself, the S4 was quicker round the track than the M3, and Audi really look to have nailed the handling of the RS4 with pin sharp turn in, and seemingly very little hint of oversteer... on our roads an M3 wouldn't get near it, well that's my opinion anyway. heh.

It's a shame that they couldn't be arsed to show us the RS4's lap, because a 1.25 puts it bang in Gallardo/Noble territory and only fractionally off a Zonda and Murcielago.

What from the Granada??? the only facelift on the Scorpio was that they added smoked headlights, and revised the tail lights from solid red lenses to amber, red, smoked white... mid-life to freshen it up. ;) Personally I loved the Scorpio, and massive thumbs up to Ford for taking a risk in the most conservative bracket.

It's all gravy though... the Scorpio is an utterly magnificent drivers car, particularly in the 2.9 24v guise, yep COSWORTH BABY!!!! RWD, minimal drivers aids... I'd challenge anyone to find a comparative drivers car for the same money, that offers up anywhere near the same kind of thrills and performance. :D

Not Ford. I meant by ramming into the Vauxhall on Top Gear!:D

That said I agree with you. I always like the big Ford as a drivers car and didn't even dislike the styling as much as it was portrayed in the press.

I like it for it's boldness in an era of insipid design, I especially like it's rump. :D but still 700 notes will get you an N/P plate 2.9 24v Cosworth powered Scorpio, no money for a 150mph car. :D

Come to think of it... it'd make an excellent cheap trackday car, especially once you've stripped out ALL of the toys, and there's A LOT of them. :D

Darn, I just finished "acquiring" all of the summer '06 episodes. I wonder if the new ones are available yet....I really hate not being able to just watch this on TV though. :(

I HAVE to get this episode today since they did the Vanwall. That car is simply incredible (or should I say "astonishing" )

I like hearing Clarkson's xenophobia when he reviews French or (especially) American cars. Odd that he likes the Viper but not the 'Vette, even though the 'Vette is a better car.

Of course the French can't make decent cars so they deserve any derogatory remarks that are leveled at them.

What do you guys think of the Porsche Cayman that was tested in yesterday's show?
I'm not really impressed, I think the back looks odd. Undoubtedly it handles extremely well, I just think the 911 and Boxster look better.

as clarkson said, it fills the gap between the boxter and the 911. personally,i the porsche line up doesnt impress me. i wound l have one as the are so generic. i like things that are a bit different (car wise that is!!!)

Scorpio. Drivers car?!  :D Even if it were, there are numerous better drivers cars for the money.

From the Ford stable alone; Capri, early Escort, Fiesta. None as powerful as the Scorpio, but much better handling.

M3 vs RS4. As impressive as the RS4 was, I'd bet my house on the forthcoming M3 being the better car. Audi are good, but BMW are a league ahead when it comes to making sporty cars.

I just saw the LR3 episode.

I would like to point out that the only reason the Land Rover got stuck was because the guy was not experienced with off-road driving and he sunk into 3ft of mud. Land Rovers will beat Jeeps any day. :)

which episode was that? is it a few seasons old?

Sounds like the trip up to Scotland where Clarkson drove (badly) up to the top of a mountain. It was last season I think and discussed earlier in this thread at the time IIRC.

Yep, the Scorpio was famed in it's day for being exactly that. ;)

The problem you've got is that you try finding a Capri or Escort (juries out on an early Escort I'm afraid, entertaining yes... anything else hmmmm) in comparative condition, that doesn't need a serious wedge spent on it to get it through it's MOT never mind approaching the performance of a Scorpio.... and the Scorpio DOES handle by the way.

What you get when your drop 700 notes on a Scorpio is a sorted 150mph car, that's entertaining, reasonably modern, gadget laden and most of all.... bullet proof. Sure the jury's out on the looks, I like them... and their boldness, doesn't mean it's not a good car though. ;)

I'm still struggling to think of a comparable car, for comparable money. ;)
