Yeah, I just don't see what the big deal is about the XK. It looks like what a facelifted Ford Cougar might do if they'd not killed it off to me. The Aston V8 Vantage completely trounces it in the looks department. I mean - look at those rear lights, yee-uk.

Don't the people in the Brighton area have a sense of humour???

Her f**kin' accent said it all though really didn't it. :p

BTW, Astons do look nicer, IMHO.

I noticed they didn't focus on the interior, it's f**kin' shameful for a £60k car, real ALBA hi-fi quality stuff.

Good to see The Stig hanging it out though... nice bit of drifting a couple of corners from the end. :D I bet we'll see some more F1 types though... and only .2 quicker than Mansell, the old mans still got it hasn't he. :p

So yeah... Top Gear is back... (for 1 show at least. heh) :p

The XK is a superb looking car. YOu have to take every review from Top Gear (especially Jeremy Clarkson) with a grain of salt though. Jeremy has a soft spot for Jags and Astons, or for any british car for that matter. I can't help agree that the aerodynamic issue would really put me off an XK though. And I'm not sure its better-looking than the previous model.

I'd still take it over the BMW 6-Series and Merc SL though. At least you're local drug dealer and/or pimp won't be driving an XK! :D

I've got it recorded thanks to the joy that is EyeTV 2. If anyone wants a DVD of it I"ll post one if you cover my costs (20p + postage!). Alternatively have a look here: www.finalgear.com

Sorry, don't agree. I've seen 2 in the flesh so far and they just don't have any presence.

The old XKR is a fast car though - I had to stomp on my gearshifter a few times to teach a red convertible example a lesson on the M4 just past Cardiff the other week :D So I imagine the pending new "R" version will be very tasty. Will still look cheap and tacky to me though.

"Raced" a Porsche Cayman S too on the same journey. A far more civilised driver and a real pleasure to watch the outside lane part as we hooned it along in a glinting silver convoy!

Just watched it, and a very good episode. The radio bit was boring, but everything else was good. I kinda like seeing our cars being tested on Top Gear, because everone here says crap like, "It's American, it must be good!" So its always nice to see a critical review of our pieces of crap.

The SL is such an elegant looking car, beautifully proportioned... :)

I'd take the 6 Series, I like it's boldness... especially in M6 form. :D and they're still reasonably rare too.

The new Jag just doesn't really connect for me... a Vantage is better looking, and has more abilities, the Jag has one of the poorest qualitiy interiors I've ever seen since the Vanquish, and if what Clarkson said is true, in that it experiences aerodynamic lift... it's potentially dangerous too.

Looking forward to them getting their mitts on a 599GTB Fiorano though, it's supposed to be incredible according to last weeks Autocar, and on the track something like 5 seconds a lap quicker round Fiorano than an F40. :D

I was watching the episode where Hamster gets his Charger and was wondering something. He says that he just got enough money to buy it, blah blah blah. In real life, I don't think any of them drive really nice cars (Jeremy's Ford GT would be nice if it was reliable). So when they're talking about Richard not being able to afford the Charger, are they joking? Or are TV hosts in the UK paid less, more like normal people? Because if they were in the US, they'd make enough money to own every car they drive on that show.

Depends really because they don't JUST work for the BBC which is funded by licnese fees and therefore would have a cap on how much they actually earn from Auntie Beeb. Clarkson has done a lot of dvd's and video's that will earn him some royalties, he also has a column in a newspaper. Richard Hammon does quite a bit for British Sky Broadcasting (bSkyb) Brainiac and some other types.

Clarkson is the highest earning motoring journalist in Europe apparently.

I'd be very surprised if the other two other don't take home at least £100kpa

Doesn't Hamster own a new 911 Turbo, it's on the bottom of the Cool Wall on their website.
