Comic Relief is this coming Friday, March 16th. I don't know if the special is to be broadcast as part of the evening though, or if it's going to be shown at a later date.

Probably just another stunt to boost his already extraordinary sense of self importance. 🙄

Let's hope the show gets a straight forward format f**k over, because the last series was usually anything other than dire.

Lets hope so. Will I watch it without Clarkson? Nope...

As for the BBC, they have said it will be back and they expect all 3 of them.

The show made a successful comeback in January, four months after co-host Richard Hammond was involved in a serious high-speed crash while filming.

An estimated eight million people tuned in to see the last episode in the series on Sunday - BBC Two's largest audience for 10 years.

Sounds like a case of either politics or money (or both) on Clarkson and the BBC's part. But if he's come out and said that in his column, if it's not a typo, then it doesn't look good.

What would they do if he left? Change of format completely or just get someone new in to fill the void?
 
clarkson has had enough of the format interfering.....hes sick of the constant reduction in cars and more hyped up stunts by the bbc to keep viewers and the campaigners happy..

hes defo left im afraid...top gear is over.

Well if Clarkson does leave id much rather they cancelled it. I'd rather have nothing than a Clarksonless Top Gear myself.

On a happier note though, BBC Two at 10pm on Friday 16 March. Thats the 'Top Gear of the Pops' so this friday. 🙂
 
Yeah it would be interesting to see what happens if clarkson does quit. Last time, top gear held up for a few more seasons with James May essentially trying to replace the ultra cynical Clarkson. I wasn't impressed at the time. James is much better playing his natural self as he does in the current top gear.

If you think about it though, it kind of ashame that the entire program is based around Clarkson. I'm pretty certain the program won't hold up without him. Probably a big mistake when they redesigned top gear a few years ago. THat is, unless they have a contingency plan for when Clarkson departs...

You may well have a point there. His reaction to the shuttle project was barely hidden and there were a few words exchanged between Hammond and him that stood out. Only a couple, but in hindsight maybe it's indicative of the off-screen concerns.

They definitely need more proper car slots.

Well, well. Maybe he's not as much of a tool as I thought he was.
 
This is probably a contract re-negotiation tactic
When a show like top gear pulls 8 million on BBC2 that gives him a lot of clout
when asking for more money
If beeb don't give him the money maybe somebody else will
C4, five or god forbid itv
and if he really wants to see the viewing figures drop by 90% im sure sky would give him his own show.

I'd agree to a point. It definitely sounds like there's a power play going on somewhere. But his issue of too much junk and not enough genuine car sections could be genuine as well. I think in one way the show would benefit from a change to channel 4. It'd be unlikely to maintain the massive viewing figures though.
 
I get the sense that part of the production team is all about the "space shuttle" type stunts, while the other part is more into just cars...I'll side with the car people on that.

I like the show, and the crazy stunts are often fun but they should not be the main feature of the program. Top Gear should be about driving real cars first, and stunts second.

I can see Clarkson leaving the show, and I wonder if he really is upset about all the silly stunts; if so I agree.

I just downloaded a new episode of 5th Gear...rather boring. Their banter is even more lame and scripted than Top Gear's is starting to become.

A lot of people are still complaining about Top Gear not doing enough cheap everyday cars, and that they should do more segments on green transportation. What do y'all think?

Nope. They should not. Thats what 5th Gear is for.

More cars though, deffo. Like the last few series. Exactly as you said, more about the cars, less about the stunts.

'Affordable' and 'Green' cars though, no.

If I watch Top Gear I expect to be entertained. Wacky races, funny stunts or reviews of exotic cars is fun!
Reviews of cheap and simple cars are boring...
 
Well they could review cheap cars, but as long as they did it in an interesting way. Like the time May took a hidden camera with him when he went in a test drive in a Rover CityCar.
 
I agree. Top Gear is about cars for driving enthusiasts...which means it isn't about carpooling, hybrids and MPVs/Minivans.

They've reviewed small cars like the Fiat Panda etc, and those were entertaining. But faster, more exotic cars are more entertaining.

One of my favourite TV moments...was it legal to do that though (assuming it wasn't scripted)?

But he lives in Central London doesn't he? there's absolutely no point in driving anything larger, or faster... infact, if you live in Central London, there's absolutely no reason to own a car at all to be honest.

He probably can. But he likes the Panda. Just because JC has expensive cars doesn't mean they all have to have them.

I'm surprised James hasn't bought a new Suzuki Swift yet.
