BAR-Honda actually used an adapted F1 car to hit 400 kmph on the salt flats last year. I'm guessing with the right gearing there's not really any reason for them not to be able to go faster than that.

F1 cars aren't designed for flat out, straight line speed. The aerodynamics are designed and optimised to provide substantial downforce on race tracks with corners.

Making a car go fast in a straight line isn't all that difficult, making a car that is usable at speed is much more so, and that's why the Veyron doesn't appear to be very good around track.

The Veyron is pretty heavy for a car that does plus 400km/h though so it's not exactly a bad car :p You wouldn't complain if someone gave you one!

Being a farmers son this most recent episode had me in stitches! It was unbelievably funny! Jezza pulling the plane with the tractor OH MY WORD what a nutter. I thought the fastrack was suprisingly stable round corners at such a high speed. If it was actualy pulling somethin it wlda jst gone straight over. Stig almost got the back end out on the last corner! He was pretty gd at driving them aswel! He could come help me drive the tractors in summer if he wants :p

The News bit was really funny. Seemed a lot less scripted this week. :p

The rest.... usual Top Gear I'm afraid.

I was thinking the same thing about the news...they seemed loose and spontaneous. The star in a reasonably priced car bit was somewhat silly - though I actually noticed at the beginning of the show that Clarkson was wearing slacks...

I loved the "£1,500 coupe that isnt a Porsche challenge". I want to see more of those though, where they buy a used car and put it through (preferably realistic) tests...those are the best segments beyond the new car tests and Stig laps. And they should get more F1 drivers into the Suzuki, those were fun.

The Stig driving the tractors was great, especially when he was almost ejected out of the side!

And in James May's defence, I say I actually like the Fiat Panda, it seems like a great daily driver. I was reading James May's column in the telegraph, where he described doing 110 in a Triumph Vitesse...and on last night's show, during the bit where they were trying to reverse the tractors through the car park, I noticed a Triumph Vitesse in the background...I think I just became that much more of a car freak...especially since I'm under 30, am American and yet I now know what a Triumph Vitesse is...

Less than a week after Top Gears staged level crossing accident we have a real one on exactly that sort of crossing. No word on why the car was on the rails at the time. Thankfully the train did no derail but unfortunately one death in the car.

:(

Last one of the series tonight. Thankfully. Lets hope they get their house in order for the next one. They can start by actually showing some cars. Weheh.

At least they're showing some part of cars....
:D

Well that's more than they've shown so far. ;) We've had them making the stuff that cars drive on, sending them far up into the sky, even ploughing fields to grow their own petrol to power them... but getting them to actually drive the f**kin' things???

Top Gear should have its name changed into:
"The Adventures of the 3 Top Gear Boys"

Still love the show, but the ballance between mindless fun and cool car tests as they were in 2004 and 2005 was much better IMHO.

Ok, it might be all scripted and that, but I found the limo's very funny.

Might is the word. Some will be scripted, but how much? Is Lamar a reallllly good actor or was he actually pissed off?

Thats the thing, you know some is scripted, but you never quite know how far they go.

Gutted its the last episode(ish) till the summer though.

Honestly how many of the cars that they test are you actually going to buy? Ok, yes they often used to test cars that were occasionally affordable. However, in the last few weeks I've laughed more than ever as the piss about doing their thing. The challenges have, without fail, been close to pant wettingly funny on a weekly basis and I've enjoyed every episode in this series my only complaint being that it has been far too short.

Just to chime in on this discussion... I'm also getting a little bit tired of the weird and wonderful challenges. Although they are very amusing, they're getting a bit old now...

What I'm missing is the tests of more everyday cars. Even is they're not all that fantastic. Give them a neat twist, but it should stay relevant. This is what we used to see every week from Top Gear. It was classic. I'm just hoping the lack of good tests was due to Hammond's absence during the time when they normally film these tests. That Mustang was the only road-car Hammond tested all season!

I think that may have been the main reason. Filming came to a halt, then all of a sudden the series was going out... soon.

It'll be top notch in the summer (No pun intended) and the specials they do are always quality (Winter one was ace) so I'm well looking forward to that as well.

As for everyday cars? Some, but don't focus on them. You don't watch Top Gear for Ford Mondeos, you watch it for Ferraris and Aston Martins (At least I do).

They have a special coming out?
