one of the presenters (game) said it comes with a gig of ram.

google it - its on the verge.com

This is the truth, no one knows yet.
I wanted to make this thread since i saw so many people talk about the a5x like they knew everything about it!
No one knows about RAM. maybe it got a 512 and 256mb, or just 1GB.
No one knows about A5X. Maybe its dual core, maybe its hybrix gpu and cpu. maybe its been upgraded to a15 architecture. maybe not! Maybe its 1ghz, maybe its 1.5ghz!
No one knows about the GPU. maybe its a slight upgraded GPU instead of just 2 cores added!

We're macrumors here. Not everything is the truth immediatly.
But since we're macrumors, i am going to say i actually expect a fairly big upgrade in terms of processing and graphics power. Because the battery still only allows 10 hours while having 70% more battery!!! Ofc the extra led bar behind the retina display(probaly) and the pixels themselfs ect ect sucks up power. but 70%??? Na, i think we're also having a nice cpu/gpu upgrade.

But again.....we know nothing. Dont act like you know until there has been a teardown ;) :apple:

Edit: thanks for the downvote you downvoters. At least i stay at the truth:)

okay....tell me the direct teardown showing 1gb of ram, a test of software wich shows 1gb or a statement of apple saying it got 1gb or ram.

By denying the 1GB so vehemently, you are assuming just as much as everyone else here - its just that everyone else has logic and common sense, while you have unfounded flailing comments.

We know more than that.

It's the A5 CPU clocked at the same 1GHz. It's also still 45nm.
It definitely doesn't have 256MB (common sense).
It probably doesn't have 512, because graphics memory is shared and the retina display requires a large amount of video memory.
Probably 1GB, because Apple doesn't overdo things.
The GPU is the iPad's 2 core GPU with four cores. It's the same hardware as in the PS Vita. Serious horsepower.

A lot of what you said was already verified.

Same hardware as Vita? Is there a source for this? Not that I don't believe you but I this is very exciting. I love gaming.

It supposedly has the same model of processor as the Vita.

Does it really matter what the raw specs are, if it kicks ass? I mean, it's not like Apple is known for having the best specs available. They are known for making preconfigured devices that run software specifically created for the hardware, and they do a damned good job at at. I'll be happy with my purchase, regardless of the "truth" about what's inside.

No, im tired of people who take rumors as facts.

I'm surprised so many people are arguing with you. You're spot on, no one knows for certain how much RAM apple put in it, or what the graphics card is clocked at. Heck an A5X chip is a dual-core chip, no one can say anything more than that without guessing.

Even that is assuming mate. Its pretty logical but still not sure if its dual core.

RAM comes in at 246mb, 512mb, or 1 GB varieties. Epic Games, in their preview of the new Infinity Blade game said "...with more memory than the Xbox 360..." something about being 'amazing' blah blah...

Anyway, Xbox 360 has 512mb of RAM. Therefore the new iPad has 1GB of RAM.

end thread/

Nope. It can also come with one 512mb card and one 256mb card. Doubtful, but possible.
Plus saying end thread is stopid, because were not only talking about ram here.

If you want to play pedantic, then likewise your assertion is 100% ludicrous. Of course people know how much RAM the new iPad has. Do you think the people who designed it don't know???

But realistically most people don't care how much RAM it has. They care if it works well. End of story.

No, we can say more than that without guessing. We know AS FACT that the system has more than 512MB of RAM. We know AS FACT that the GPU is twice as powerful as the one in the iPad 2. Both of these facts were announced at Apple's press conference. To not believe those is to say that information given out by Apple is rumor.

This has got to be the most moronic thread ever.

The expectation is that the A5X has a dual-core CPU like the A5 (hence the inclusion of the "A5" not "A6" or some other integer following the "A") paired with a quad-core GPU. People assume this because Apple nearly said as much. And the folks at Anandtech know their s--- when it comes to hardware, and know that Apple uses PowerVR graphics in the iPad, so that is likely what we will see in this case as well. That people assume this and probably have a nearly 100% change of being right shouldn't bother you. It's well beyond "rumor" at this point and bordering on "fact" but we all acknowledge we won't know for sure until physical units are in hand.

Move on with your life.

Just thought I'd point out that this exactly what this thread is about. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO COME ON THIS THREAD THAT IS AGAINT PEOPLE GUESSING SPECS, AND SAY "PROBABLY DOESN'T HAVE 512 MB" OR "PROBABLY HAS 1 GB". ALSO THERE HAS BEEN NO ANNOUNCEMENT WHATSOEVER ON THE A5X'S ARCHITECTURE SPECS. FOR ALL WE KNOW IT COULD BE A BILLION GHZ, 256 BIT ARCHITECTURE. WHAT EVER IT IS IT WILL STILL BE AMAZING.

Until someone tests the actual hardware, no one will know for sure but we can make some reasonable assumptions that:

-the A5X CPU is the same dual core ~1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 chip that was in A5.
-the A5X GPU is quad-core PowerVR SGX543 series.
-there's a separate chip that handles image stabilization from the new camera
-more RAM (1GB) is pretty much a given since there's absolutely no way preserve smoothness in operation on retina apps and content with only 512MB.

I can only say one thing...what a STUPIDLY-TITLED thread...I came here expecting to see answers, and all I've got were discussions leading to nowhere. Not so different from other phishing/spam pages out there.

Anand stipulates this in his article. Anyway if this turns out to be true you shouldn't expect a Vita-like gaming experience on new iPad games (unless there's some serious resolution down scaling happening). I.e. the Vita is working with a much lower screen resolution. Just sayin'.

Ah it was leaked. So...its a rumor;)

it was a rumor at the time, but I was under the impression it has since been confirmed, as it came from a device with an identifier consistent with the new iPad, which no one would have know pre-keynote in order to fake it
