Probably been asked already but after searching the last 20 pages still can't find it.

Do you think UK pre-orders at the online apple store will be from 00:01am on the 15th (what time was it for the iPad?)? do you think O2 P&G will be sold direct by apple?

For iPad it was round about 00:50am on the preorder day. I suspect it will be the same for the iPhone, the site will go down for a while shortly after midnight on the Monday (i.e. in the very early hours of Tuesday morning) for them to load up the iPhone details and then the site will come back up after however long it takes them to do the load, probably sometime around 1:00am. There are no gurantees of course, but that's what happened with the iPad (except it was Sunday night/Monday morning of course)

Apple haven't said what time pre-ordering will open. With the iPad it was just before 1AM that the site came back up and you could place an order.

I don't see why O2 PAYG won't be sold in the Apple store. In fact I hope they see the light and just sell it unlocked and let us choose.

Are you a 3 salesman? Other people in here manage to take about networks without turning every post into an advert but every post you make seems to be about how brilliant 3 is.

hahaaa it does look like that, but I'm not,

it's just I see people talking about the PAYG tariffs from the other networks like there's no other choice, skipping over 3 because of outdated misconceptions where the only misconception is the other networks outdated policy that it should be the network that runs the show, (imagine if your home broadband proivider dictated which computer you used and if and when you could upgrade it -it's disgusting their old time practices) (like people going to have to lump it with o2 paying £10 for 300texts and only 500MB of data) and I say NO there is another option go out and do your own research find out what will be cheapest for you, dont pay for 600mins on some dirty contract that the networks will sucker you into if you give them an oppertunaty if you only use 100.

also I do like 3, I've been with then for almost a year and havent payed for a single call yet because of the free for life skype they give me it is awesome, magical is how apple would say it how you can have a mobile phone and call anyone in the world for free, or some other apple spin crap, :D

apart from 3 mobile seem way better value for money, the internet is the same price £5 for 1GB (which is the fair usage for tmobile) calls to other mobiles are cheaper on 3mobile, with each top up you get free texts, free 3-3 minutes (cheaper than tmobiles 8p pm)

all the rewards are for 90days on 3 compared to one weekend on tmobile.

and 3 mobile also has access to all of tmobiles masts so wherever you get a signal with tmobile you get it with 3 and you get all of 3 mobiles own masts too which has the highest 3g coverage
Thanks for the suggestion, but if I buy the 6 month bonus packs from T-Mobile then it's £20 for 6 months at 1GB per month, i.e. £3.33 (and a bit) per month. Killer deal (if they keep it in place for iPhone 4). One other factor is that I'm an incredibly low voice user (I topped up my PAYG last in late 2007, for a total balance of £60, and I still have £20 left on it!). This skews my perceptions of value, I pretty much don't care about call charges, only data.

Also, I'm a bit obsessive about battery life so I want the option to lock my phone to 2G if I don't plan to use data. Does the 3 deal with T-Mobile mean that I can use 2G with 3 now?

I agree with you. but to be honest, I think a lot of people are in the same position I was in a few years ago where the idea of stumping up £500+ for a phone is a non starter. A contract in a way gives you time to pay it off and gives you lots of minutes etc. without anything else to pay.

I am buying PAYG by the way.

T-Mobile and 3 are sharing masts for 3g afaik 3 use Orange for their 2g network if there is no 3g signal.

I don't think so. Three have always had this bee in their bonnet about you disabling the 3G setting. It's always been because they pay for the other 2G network when you use it. If this deal with T-Mobile is more of a merger, things may change. At the moment Three use the Orange network as a 2G fallback I believe.

What is strange is my iPhone is sometimes reluctant to go back to the 3G network when I get in range again. It seems to cling on to the 2G one for more time than I like.

Quick question...

Just thought of this on another thread, with the improved antenna in the iPhone 4 do you think it will make it much better for keeping and holding onto a 3g signal in area's where it tends to flip a lot beween 2g/3g?

cool, that's what I like to see people actually looking at what they use and picking out what's best for them, I had no idea about that deal and as a data user myself (I try to use email over texts as it's far more flexable) I think it's a pretty stunning deal

I agree buying PAYG can be pretty daunting but I look at it this way, if I had bought a brand new 16Gb iphone 3gs on launch day last year for £450 and then sold it this year now I would have been able to get minumum £270 for it overall it would have only cost me £180 for 1 year of iphone lovin

Okay quick ** but long winded** question for you guys ;)

I currently have a 2g iPhone and have sold it to my friend for £90
I want the new iPhone 4, but it's unknown at the moment whether orange will offer their friends and family discount on it
i have access to a code from my friend and could do either of these deals:
£40 (£32 with f and f code) 24month contract with 3gs 16gb and sell the 3gs for around £220 after having payed for the phone originallly. Presuming payg prices are £500 I'll then be forking out £190 for the phone..

Or I can wait for contract prices. Find out if orange do the discount on the new iPhone and just hope they do..
I'm just not sure!
I think either way I'll end up forking out similar amounts for the phone but I just can't decide..
Any ideas?
Jack

If this has been asked before, I'm sorry! There's a lot of pages now...

Will I be able to upgrade online? via O2? If so, do you think it'll arrive at my door on the release date?

Also, the Microsim, I put my address in the O2 form for one, but it said it 'may' send one, but it's not guaranteed... Is there anywhere I can get one? Elsewhere? Or at least a guaranteed way!

Thank you all!

I really hope the price is set around £450 because a price more than that just seems a little too much for a phone. I was also willing in the past few years to purchase an iPhone with 12 months free web bolt on which is worth £120 but as this won't come with iPhone 4 this also increases the price of the phone as I will have to get a tariff that includes 3G.

Exactly. If they don't include 12 months' data (and it looks like o2 aren't since they say anyone buying a Pay and Go iPhone will initially be put on a price plan where topping up gives you a data allowance), then the price of the phone effectively increases by £120.

I haven't actually topped up at all since I last had my original iPhone (not on contract but hactivated and used on Pay and Go)in early 2008. I have mainly used the included data that came with the 3G and subsequently with the 3GS. Although recently, I have been using some complimentary credit I received to pay £5 per month for "o2 numbers" giving me 1000 mins/texts to 10 other o2 customers.

am i right in thinking they also cap the speeds of payg 3g?

My Pay and Go iPhone 3G was capped. When I complained and then the speed went up. Then I got an email from o2 saying an unauthorised work around had been used and my speed would return to being capped. But my next and present iPhone, a Pay and Go 3GS, is way way faster and doesn't seem capped. So no idea what that is all about!

What a lot of people don't seem to know is that the network cannot refuse to unlock your phone as that would be a breach of consumer rights. You have a legal right to use any mobile phone you own on whatever network you choose!

Can you can point me to some authority for that consumer right?

Just tried the apple online uk shop and clicking on the iPhone section is giving me an "oops, an error has occurred during your session". Looks like the iphone page is down

Anyone else?

Edit: - its now a we'll be back soon - might be getting some details today...

Yes, the store is down, but so is US store, which could mean iPhone news.

BUT, Australia store is down also and they arent due it until July, so probably nothing of interest
