Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

It is easier to deal with it in 14 days returning windows period. If you have passed that, things will get harder and you may face a bad circumstance with guys in Apple store. This is my experience. You got a bargain power within 14 days after purchase. They will do whatever you say.

You have a prove?

But if I never forced it to happen, how would I even know I had it?

But if I never forced it to happen, how would I even know I had it?

People have problems with it in normal usage. I would not care about if it would not appear with normal usage. Testing it this way, give you an idea what will happen over time. Even you have Apple care, if it is in specification after they test it but you think you have got a bad ghosting on the screen, they will not change it for you. Painful process, I can tell you. That is why a thread on Apple support community has got so long even this day. People who bought last year show up as a new comer of that thread because their screen got worse.

Do we have any proof that the 15" late 2013 modell with LG screens, have IR?
I can find some isolated report about it, but no actual proof provided.
It seems like its not a issue on the new LG, at least not on the 15".
And if its not, I rather have a LG screen then a Samsung, since the Samsung have a overall really faint yellow tint.

Im getting my rMBP replaced soon because of a yellow tint in the lower left corner. I know this has nothing to do with the brand of the display, since both seem to get it. But when i get the new one, i actually rather get a LG screen then Samsung. As long as it don't got IR that is.

This guy is always posting negative one-liners about the screen and presents them as a fact. When asking about any proof he goes silent or neglects the question. He also says that all the 13" retina screens are made by LG without providing any proof.
For now, I'll take everything what this guy says about the retina screens with a grain of salt.

I have an LG and I have it in a minor fashion. If you read the whole thread you would see that ohers have it too

Ok, but its more isolated on the "rev 2" LG screens?
Not all have it, like the "Rev 1" LG screen had, right?

Last 5 pages, we talked about the new generation rmbp. We are trying to figure it out that the problem has been fixed ir not. However, a lot people order 15", get both Samsung and LG display. But 13" we found it interesting.
Again, this is based on a lot people experience and explore. Not just a standalone assumption.
We never had any proof that Samsung is making screen for the 13" retina. As far as we know there is only LG.

SJA 1
SJA 2
These two LG screen were the old gen screen, which we have problem with.
There is a newest SJE 1, we have seen. But I don't think Apple stocks SJE1 part at any Apple retail store atm. SJE1 only be found on new gen. It is too early. I think you need to wait until SJA1 and 2 have been cleared out in their stock. We don't know how well SJE1 hold up against IR. It is too early to draw conclusion. I hope they have fixed the problem. But the youtube video I posted, makes me scared.

It seems like less LG's have it and that many who have it, don't have it as bad.

To play safe, do you think we should get Samsung display? I have heard people saying Samsung display has been improved as well.

Samsung's have it less, but you cant really pick your display. I don't really notice it at all on mine unless I TRY to make it happen. So I'm fine with my LG.

There is a way, if yours is not BTO. You can walk to nearest Apple retail store. Talk to the manager. They have an inventory system that you can check manufacturer parts. I can't remember what they call it. But I have been acknowledged from Apple retail manager that the system is exist. It is real. However, it depends how well each manager willing to serve you.

I found it.
It is called Ripley.
Internal inventory system. They might find Samsung display without opening any box.

Is Apple's screen testing method / specification publicly available?

Can this test do any harm to your macbook?
Eg when you don't have IR, can this test start you to give IR?

Not sure if I should test it...

Would be interesting for Ifixit to confirm the brand of the 13 inch screens of the rMBP which they have tear down, so we cam see its model number.

To play safe, do you think we should get Samsung display? I have heard people saying Samsung display has been improved as well.

I got the SJE1 LG panel and it looks great. No yellowing and brightness is amazing. Whites are milky and off angle viewing is great too!

Did the IR test a few times already, and no IR [ but then it may develop after a few weeks/months ]

Just for the heck of it, I picked up another one from Apple [ B&M ] and it's a Samsung panel. Now, I strongly believe the Samsung displays have been revised too as it's just as bright and milky white as the LG!

Samsung Panel Info :

LSN154YL01-A01

I can't use the Samsung display at full brightness even during the day because it's so bright [ just like the LG ] I have to keep both screens 3-4 ticks below full brightness during daytime and @ 50% with low ambient light. If it's completely dark, no more than 25% brightness for comfortable viewing.

I'm also using F.lux [ set at 5500 K for night ] to warm the screen a bit!

Still debating which one to keep... Both have Samsung SSDs.

Interesting to note that 66% of people who answered this poll have LG screens.

Not sure if this is proportionate with actual production yields (i.e. 2 LG displays for every 1 Samsung display), or if it's just a case of this thread attracting people with LG IR problems...

My BTO 15" came with a LSN154YL01-A01, and while I'm sure it's not "flawless" by scientific standards, it has no apparent problems with yellow gradients, backlight blooming, etc. It's a really nice panel.

I suggest you to keep the Sammy screen. At least, you stay away from IR. You are lucky. I am happy for you.

I saw the picture you posted of your screen. I believe you got a good one (just compare it to some of the others that have been posted).

I don't think that this would be an accurate poll since it will be including the initial release of the rmbp from 2012 which we all know had the inferior LG screen which was recently updated.

I would like to see a poll for only late 2013 rmbp's.

Well, I'm afraid I may have spoken too soon...

Now that I've had a chance to live with it for a day, it's official that my display has some noticeably uneven backlightling. The yellow tint in the lower part of the screen is negligible--virtually non-existent-- and there's no IR, but it has a distracting shadow/dark streak running through it that just shouldn't be there. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

It's a shockingly nice display compared to the ones on my gf's Air and the old WhiteBook I've been using, but neither of those exhibit that kind of blotchiness. (And neither are IPS displays.)

Anyway, it's disappointing to have to join the lottery pool, but I think that's where I'm headed. Guardedly optimistic I will eventually wind up with a display that's 100% satisfactory, if not 100% perfect...

Edit: Hmmm... it turns out screen uniformity might just be a fact of life with these ultra-thin IPS displays. Maybe I'm after something that doesn't exist... :(

Hi,

Chiming in with a new 15" Haswell rMBP, with the SJE1 LG screen.

Did the checkerboard test and unless I did it wrong, I could detect absolutely NO retention after 15 minutes.

Screen has absolutely no messed up pixels, no uneven lighting or splotches I can see, no tinting, and no retention. Being my first apple machine, I am VERY impressed. Hopefully this keeps up and nothing develops.

I got it a few days ago so I'll check again next Sunday before my 14 days are up and we'll see what happens.

Is it similar to my screen (photos attached), which I even started a new thread thinking it was something new?

I'm not willing to take the lottery and perhaps end up with something worse! I asked my friend who has the mid-2012 model and he admitted having _some_ backlight non-uniformity, but only at the edges.

I guess our eyes will get used to it, no?..

SO!
Bought my 15" last year in July.
Really bad retention, broken SD card port (barely used) and the fan made crunching noises so I took it back to the authorised reseller, and under Australian consumer law it's still under warranty despite applecarre ending!

The nice woman in store informed me that apple generally has been accepting out of warranty hardware repairs for this computer!

So best wishes, I thought there was no hope.

Terminal command to check display maker isn't working on my 13" MBP with retina. :(

I noticed when I log OFF, I see remnants of OS X Mavericks just before screen goes black. Is this normal?
