Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

I wonder what will Apple do with those LG screens? Will it return them to LG asking for a refund or a replacement?

I had my screen replaced quite a while back due to the image retention issues. Now, just today, I noticed a couple of bright white spots on the screen on the lower left-hand side... :(

I have an appointment tomorrow - but if they have to replace the screen again - not specifically for an image retention issue - I wonder if I am back in the LG/Samsung lottery...

Is it safe to assume that after being so many months in, they won't give me a full product exchange because of an IR display? I'm guessing they will simply replace the screen on my mac.

I was hoping to hold out for the haswell rMBP's but I don't think that's realistic. My mac has such bad IR right now.

just got mine back from Apple. I should have known the second I saw the screen that they installed a Samsung...time to calibrate. Did look to see and I do in fact of a LSN = Samsung screen. The tech told me that's all they have been using to replace IR/Ghosting LCDs...

Nice! I'm glad this time you got the Samsung !! :)

I've noticed screen burn on my retina MacBook Pro and after stumbling upon this thread thought I'd give the test image a go.

Here's how mine looked after 10 minutes:

Pretty shocking!

If I took this into an Apple store, are they likely to replace it? To be honest it's inconvenient for me because I don't live close to one - but it'd be worth knowing.

yes, don't see how they may say no if it is on warranty.

After having my 15" for just over a year I started to notice the image retention last week. Thankfully I have AppleCare so I took it in last Monday to have the screen replaced. I got it back on Friday and it now has a Samsung screen. I think the screen is yellow compared to the LG screen and not as bright :( Maybe I just need to adjust to the different colour temp. Here is a pic, any opinions?

so happy with my apple customer service experience today. basically ive had my retina for a little more than a year, and 7 months ago i had image retention so they replaced it ... with an LG screen. so ofc i got it again. so i decided to replace it again. unfortunately, they couldnt complete the repair in time as i had to go back to boarding school, and by the time i got near to an apple store, i was out of warranty. after explaining my situation, they decided to help me out and fix it as ifit was in warranty. when i got it back, i noticed an immediate change, the screen colours seemed more accurate and less... pink. so yep i have a samsung screen now :)

u guys should try this, maybe theyve fired LG or something and stopped using their screens.

Nobody can really tell you anything based on a photo, other than that if you think it's too warm, you should go into System Preferences and give calibrating it a try.

The problem with a photo is that there are too many layers: the color of your display, the lighting in the room (even a dark one), the camera color, the angle of the photo, the color management of the image processing you used to create the file, and the color of the viewer's computer all affect what we see on the other end.

As long as you save the new profiles with new names, you can't hurt anything. Try to set up the display at the same brightness and position you'll use it most often, then click through the steps. Do this a few times until you get one you like. It can be helpful to have some test images to check against (like these). You won't get super accurate results by eyeballing it, but this is about making you happy, which only you can judge.

So, if you are out of warranty how can you get this issue fixed?
Can you pay money to apple for them to swap the screen?

I'm out of warranty now. I was busy with work and didn't have time to swap it.

What should I do? I hesitated to take it in before the warranty expired because most of you guys have had problems with getting a right laptop. I can't spend weeks swapping the computer and reinstalling the software and windows etc.....

I might just sell it and get a new one in 2 years time...i don't need a computer next year...

Yes, they will fix it, but will most likely not be free since you dont have Applecare.

Guess i'll have to pony up and get that apple care after all. So if you haven't already get your screen changed out.

I have an early 2013 15" rMPB with an LG screen. I type the command into terminal, and also found out that it has "SJA2" attached to the end. Wasn't there something that said that the SJA2 were the updated LG screens that seem to have less IR problems?

Anyways, I ran the test and did not have any problems. I got my computer form Best Buy, and my 15 day return period ends tomorrow. I probably won't return it, but if I do experience IR within my one year apple warranty will they replace it? I will be getting apple care soon, in a couple months, but want to make sure apple will take care of it in the case it appears in half a year or so.

After playing the panel lottery 10+ times I received my Samsung screen. It developed a white blotch over time in the lower right hand corner. I finally brought it in for repair when the trackpad started clicking funny. I told them I needed it replaced with another Samsung screen. They didn't listen to me of course and gave me an SJA2 LG panel. This screen is beautiful and I have not experienced any ghosting with it yet.

Got an SJA2 Display as Replacement (old one was defect).

Now I have a yellow tint (left area) and a red tint (right area) :( I'm not very satisfied :(

After 10min I have a little bit of IR, but I never have my brightness all the way up so it goes away fast enough that I don't think that I will never really notice. It also seems bit more yellow on the left bottom corner, but I don't do any image work.

With out looking for these issue I never would have noticed. Personally I'm sure that MANY here wouldn't have noticed with out looking for it. I'm not saying it's not a problem, just that if you didn't know to look for it, and would have never noticed it with out specifically looking for it, is it worth returning? IMO no.

I have Apple Care, if ti gets worse to the point that it does start to annoy/get noticeable then I'll take it in, but for now, at leas ton my machine, it's so minor I'm not worrying.

It is easier to deal with it in 14 days returning period. If you have passed that, things will get harder and you may face a bad circumstance with guys in Apple store. This is my experience. You got a bargain power within 14 days after purchase. They will do whatever you say.

It is also been proven that the latest LG panel in Haswell 15" have IR too (SJE1)

You have a prove?
