The line at the local AT&T store here in suburban Orlando was around the building when they opened this morning... Looked like a normal launch here.

You mean there are no more heartwarming scenes such as this?

My verizon store was empty with plenty of regular 6s stock
our store had 7 in line at opening and no phones at all, they apparently didn't get their shipment. they took our names and numbers and said they will call if they come in today or else pre-order ours. if they dont come in today i don't plan on ordering any and will just wait for the 7.

drove past an att, sprint and VZW store on my way to work, no line at sprint and att, a couple at VZW.

The line was around the block at Michigan Avenue at 8:00am, and about a block long. However, the reservation system was pretty good. I showed up at 7:55, got in the door at 8:01, and was out the door at 8:17. I think there are fewer people waiting in line because more people are ordering online, and Apple had plenty of stock this time around. Plus, China was included in the initial launch, so there is less demand from resellers.

My sister is an assistant manager at an AT&T store, she says its just another day at the office. No lines, plenty of iPhones in stock. Going to go get one shortly. I'm glad all these ebay ppl wont sell theirs for ridiculous prices. HA!

Crowds do seem to be down as compared to other iPhone launches. My wife works across the street from the boylston apple store in Boston and she only started seeing people camping out yesterday. Prior years people were there days/weeks before the roll out.

This was around 6:45am. Line was down Newbury though. Mostly Asian scalpers

That's how it should be. iOS 9 slows down your phone, the new phone is heavier, smaller battery... and people are waiting in line for it?

I didn't know you were in Boston. I'm there too. But I didn't go to the launch though.

Not sure about lag, my ip6+ had lots of lag from iOS9 though. So far I've had a bit of lag on my 6s+, just now I went to unlock it and it froze on the pass number screen for several seconds then it kicked in for some weird reason. The new iPhone being heavier is a complete and utter joke as a complaint IMO, I have one in each hand and there is no discernable difference.

But I agree, I always laugh at people who wait in line for a freakin phone. I waited in line for the 5 for 4 hours, got to the front and they were out of stock and in that moment I realized what a complete buffoon I was. Never again, I'll either preorder and get it when it gets here, or like this year reserve it. The reservation process was very nice, I was in and out of the apple store in about 40 minutes. There were about 100 or so people lined up, but only about 10 in the reservation line.

Since the iPhone 6s / + are getting shipped faster than the 6 and the + a year ago I'm not surprised

Why do people wake up early and wait hours in line where you can just pre order it and have UPS ship it to you?

Decided to pass by AT&T store in San Antonio 5 minutes before opening. Line was about 7 or so. Walked right in as they opened and got 6S Plus in Silver (64gb). I thought for sure I would have to wait for awhile for this configuration and was upset I didn't pre-order. I feel much better now.

Also, AT&T had a one-day special and I got an iPad Mini 2 for $49.00. Not a bad day.
