For my 5s I camped out at an At&t store. The line was so long it wrapped around the building. There was also a best buy in the same shopping center a walking distance away. They also had a long line. My initial plan for the 6s was to camp out. At&t forces you to to order online to keep the 2 year contract and thats what I did.

Everything is moving online nowadays. Even on black Friday stores aren't as crowded as they once use to be.

This is how it should be. Most people probably ordered online either from Apple or with their carrier. No reason there still should be crowds of people waiting at the store like it was in years past.

Usually it always rains on launch days and you have to bring your umbrella. Given that it's in September the season is more....

wait..

Non at my tmobile store

showed up at tmobile 1 in my closer less popular mall at 720am for an 8am opening and there was no one else there, the rep told me they had no 128gb of 6s or plus and that the only tmobile that did was at the bigger mall that has a casino and all so I assumed there would be a bigger line. Showed up there at 740 and there were 3 people in front of me getting either a 16 or 64. The 2nd tmobile had everything except 128gb rose gold plus's and they had A LOT of stock according to how many reservation tickets were in the stack he was handing out from.

I had trouble with online ordering last year through tmobile so I didn't want to do it again, and last year there was only about 5-7 people ahead of me for the 6 when I finally just went into the store on launch day (tmobile messed up my order causing a 1-2 week wait). I would say that the days of waiting in long lines are coming to an end very quickly.

I didn't show up to t Mobile either. I hope there was zero people in line out of spite.

And then you have the people who are in line periscoping talking about "uh oh. My iPhone is on 10 percent" and I'm like, and you're going in to buy ANOTHER one?

Better turn that thing on low power mode *phone dies anyway*

"S" models always have less demand because most people are still within their contract. The majority of people upgraded every two years and it's when he new model version comes out. My entire family is on the same schedule.

There's no question that the enthusiasm for new Apple product launches is not what it used to be. Not to say the products aren't still good, people being so hyped has just died down.

Probably because apple made enough iPhone's this year. It's still showing 1-2 weeks delivery on apple site for me. Previous launches it was a lot worse.

Probably a combination of most people decided to preorder. Also China is now in the first wave of countries so there aren't as many Chinese scalpers coming over, and they were making up a very large portion of the lines.

Apple claims this years' sales beat last years record. AT&T claims a 30% increase in sales over last years opening weekend. It's safe to say many people opted to pre-order. So sales aren't down.. just the needless waiting in line is down.

That was Angela's mission to move things away from the stores. I guess she is succeeding.

Walked into my local Att store in central Florida @10am and bought a 6s 64g Rose Gold for my daughter - there were more employees than customers!

The same at my carrier and I thought oh great I won't even have to queue up upstairs at the Apple Store to pick up my reservation until they told me that they had no 6S plus models and wouldn't be getting any until the 6th October.

8 people here at a Verizon store in NC including myself. No carrier store in our area received any 6s plus, they all went to the two Apple stores that are here so no phone for me today. First time in years I wasn't able to get a phone on launch day.

Not surprising. iPhones have been coming out since 2007, and smartphones are no longer the new and exciting tech they used to be. Are there lines for new laptops and TVs on release day?

I am far too lazy to stand in line for hours to get a phone that will just be like the phone I have carried every day in my pocket for the past year, only faster, when FedEx will bring it to me while I work. Plus it sounds like a terrible waste of vacation time. I am perfectly fine waiting a few hours more to get a phone.

I went to my local AT&T store at 6:45 CST and they opened at 8. I was the fourth person in line and had no inventory issues getting my 128gb SG 6S Plus. That being said something was wrong with their pos system and I was in the store for 2 hours getting that fixed with someone's name the phone with th regional AT&T "War Room" getting it all straightened out. They took care of it in the end and I got the phone I wanted but back to the original topic I was blown away when I showed up and only three people were there. There ended up being 20 people in line before the store opened but that is still far less than what I expected compared to last year after hearing more phones were sold this year.

So many people got the 6 and finally got the screen size they had been waiting for. The S is a truly incremental update. I upgrade every year regardless because of the plan Im on I can and why not? Being a photographer, a new camera and 4k video is all I needed to hear anyways. I haven't waited in line for years. The days of waking up at 4am and going to stand in line for 6 hours are over. So simple to preorder online now and get it delivered to your doorstep.
