You guys are making some incorrect assumptions about Romero's Zombies. They routinley use tools and retain some memories of their past life. In Day of the Dead a Zombie even learned how to fire a pistol. Max Brooks' Zombies on the other hand have none of these traits.

Good point but I thought that I should also point out that in other Romero films like in Night of the living dead a zombie uses a rock to smash the car window at the start of the film. And in Land of the dead it has zombie's who are using basic communication skills and basic objects and tools.

But in all I’m more than impressed with the TV show adaptation and the characters have been chosen well I cant wait to see episode 3.

wow, how many channels did you have back then?
Four: CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS. I can remember when locally we added a new commercial UHF station and thinking that was a big deal.

Don't roll your eyes. :D That wasn't in caveman times, that was during the original run of shows like Lost in Space and The Twilight Zone.

Now hand me my cane, sonny.

The first time I was exposed to pay cable tv was in California in the 1980's. Back then it was only about $15 a month. What the heck happened? I look at all the channels I never watch and I'm hoping to find a ala-cart cable service some day.

Am I horrible? I cheered, loudly, when Shane beat the ever living crap out of Ed.

Based on what I saw, Shane over did the beating, but no doubt Ed is an abusive husband. Acknowledged Shane was taking out his Lori frustrations. Overall Shane seems like a decent person so far although I have questions about how Lori came under the impression her husband was dead. She told Shane in Episode 3 that "you told me my husband was dead." So the question becomes, was it a misunderstanding or something else?

I just saw Episode 3 last night i didn't know that Norman Reedus (Daryl) was in it . But i dont remember Merle removing his hand in the books ill have to have a look again for that bit it has been i while since i read the books.

That's probably wise, and certainly helps alleviate some of my concern about repetitiveness.

As an aside, I'm old enough to remember when a TV season was 36 or 39 episodes, and a network ordering only 13 episodes was pretty much a vote of no-confidence. How things change. Don't a lot of cable shows now have short seasons like that?

I think many networks do that to make sure all of the potential viewers are watching. They introduce different shows to cover all of the demographics.

Episode 4
- They are on a roll!

AMC Link Cast of Characters. For some reason Merle and Daryl are not listed.

The Walking Dead Wiki. No Merle or Daryl here either. Hmm. Were these guys in the comic book or have they been added? I guess they are expendable, though I like them as characters.

I think they were added, I don't remember a Merle or Daryl in the graphic novels.

They've definitely added a bit to the Atlanta portion of the story in the TV series, but overall I'd say it's been pretty faithful in spirit to the graphic novels. I can completely understand that the TV writers wanted to flesh out the Atlanta story a little bit more than was done in the novels.

Agreed. Episode 4 had probably the closest thing to a movie-style zombie horde attack yet-- some serious Zom Nom Nom.

Spoiler (hidden for those who haven't seen it yet):
The good-for-nothing Ed-- the one who abused his wife and got his face beaten to a pulp by Shane-- is the first to get eaten. Poetic justice... well, as poetic as a shambling reanimated corpse can be, I guess.

They really let their guard down. Although I imagine how difficult it would be to keep an effective perimeter at night when you can't afford to have lights on. Part of me thought it would be Merle scratching around Ed's tent. Hah! :)

Established story lines aside...

I think they got really lax with the guarding of their camp. Sleeping in a tent off by yourself? Going to the bathroom by yourself?

You should always be with someone for chrissakes! Walking to take a piss, going off to watch the stars... ugh. They were just asking for disaster.

Plus, what were they thinking with their camp setup? They had a nice huge cliff face at one side. With their backs to the cliff, they should have formed a defensive fence with their cars, trucks and RVs... at the very least, that would have delayed any zombies from shambling leisurely into their camp. At best, they could have forced all the zombies in through a choke point... would have made keeping watch and safeguarding the living much easier.

Tsk, tsk, tsk... they clearly did not read or watch enough zombie books or movies and were clearly unprepared for such a zombie attack! :)

I'm glad The Walking Dead got picked up for a 2nd season already but season 1 only has 2 episodes left! WTF?

I hope they pull a Burn Notice or Stargate Universe and have a season 1.5 or season 2 in January.

Yep agreed. If you are not going to do the other sensible stuff, why even bother to sit on top of your RV in the daytime and look around? Just let them surprise you. :)

Yeah a really short season, maybe they thought it would flop?

I think that's fairly standard for Hollywood... if they're not sure about a show, they'll commit to filming fewer episodes than normal. And to be honest, as a fan of the graphic novels, I wasn't sure how they would or even could translate such a great story to the TV screen but still be faithful to the source material. Really glad that it's gained the steam that it has... 13 more episodes next year! :)

Entertainment Weekly says that the proposal came to AMC late and they wanted to get it out by Halloween so they popped out a short season. I'm not sure why this would be a reason to make it a short season, other than it might intefer with the follow-on season's shooting. After being shot down by the likes of NBC, the article makes it sound like AMC had no doubts as soon as they heard the pitch.

Episode 4 should've been titled Vatos: A softer side.

For the first 30 minutes of Episode 4, I was pissed off at cholos everywhere. I'm glad the story turned, serves me right for stereotyping.

Those campers were dim. They sat around for the fish fry and left no watch!
I blame Shane for not establishing a SOP at the camp.

I agree and disagree slightly with that and what some people are saying about the lack of patrols and people on guard duty. I think the reason they let there guard down was because they felt at comfort with there surroundings/company they were in and the fact they had fried fish it may not seem much but it's like a luxury to them being as they didn't know how long before they would eat fresh meat/food like that again.

So they slowly let there guard down but I do sometimes wonder when watching it why they haven't they really made an effort to set traps or to take advantage of the surrounding and made some way to patrol the area that would be safe for them and why have they put there tents next to the forest like they have done.

But I found the whole thing with Jim's digging those grave because of his dream a bit creepy then you find out at the end of the episode why he was digging those graves "that’s why I dug those graves" it just put a chill down my spine for some reason.

I was surprised and happy by the turn of events in town. Out at camp, hopefully they learned their lesson even though it was the hard way. As I remember 3 killed- I recognized Ed and Amy. The 3rd not sure who it was, just an extra? Are there extras running around that camp similiar to like they had in Lost- new people (geek eats) pop in from time to time? :)

I dunno... zombie apocalypse destroys the world and you let your guard down for a fish fry? :)

I think Zombieland had some great rules... great movie, which reminds, I should add that to my Christmas movie list. :)

They were caught up in the moment :D. One thing I do like, they are still sticking to a good majority of the comics which I like. If they follow a good majority of the plot line there is going to be some good stuff coming up!!!!!!!!

Yeah I suppose your right fried fish is a bit nasty and stinks bad. I suppose if that zombie wasnt chomping on that deer they could have been eating deer steaks or a rack of deer ribs then I would have been a completely different situation. :D
