I just got round to watching this. Love it! I didn't even know about it until a friend said its his Lost replacement.
Superb stuff. I thought the pacing was a bit slow in the first episode but by episode 2 they had me.

Last night's episode was a bit slow as well, concentrating more on character development than action. Still, it was a nice build-up to the season finale next week, where we'll get a glimpse of just how messed up the world has become.

And maaaan, all those flies in the final scenes. Realistic, but nasty.

Not to mention you could almost smell the decomposing bodies. Loved it!

is it known in the shows what makes the zombies zombies?
I don't think so. The cause of the zombie apocalypse isn't made known (at least through what I've read so far) in the graphic novels either.

CDC is a bit of a departure from the novel's story line, but I'm still extremely excited for the season finale. Can't wait.

Please tell me we don't have to wait until next October to see season 2 of The Walking Dead.

I really hope it returns in feb/march.

Same here. I'm hoping that they did the October 31 debut specifically to cater to the halloween crowd.

I found it ironic that in the preview for next week the doctor at the CDC mentioned that the French held out the longest. lolz

No they haven't said the cause of the zombies yet.

I don't think it will. They haven't even begun production on the second season so you will probably have to wait until next Fall.

After being shot down by the likes of NBC, the article makes it sound like AMC had no doubts as soon as they heard the pitch.
There is no way this show would have made it on network, it would have been toned down to a point not worth watching. Just be happy NBC didn't pick it up, everything they touch turns to crap.

Hearing a lot of good things about The Walking Dead I tuned in mid way last night and I need to go back and watch the beginning. The realism is amazing and very well done. This show will probably feed my "24" fix. I needed a new show to grab onto and TWD should do it.

Shooting the kid zombie in the very first scene, yeah, censors could have cut the "boom headshot" part without too much trouble, but as soon as the censors saw the half-woman "crawler" zombie, they would've nixed the whole freaking show. "Think of the children!!!!1!!one!"

Couldn't agree more. I am sooooo glad this isn't on a major network.

When they previewed it at comic con I was hooked!!!!!!! There are some scenes and characters that are not in the comics but so far they havent gone down hill like other shows ala true blood.

I too am happy it's not on NBC. Although generally speaking I'm not happy with the state of censorship on many cable networks, I believe it is self imposed. My assumption is that AMC allows all the gore on TWD because they can. Now we just need some nudity. (I'm not thinking of TWD.) Oh, and cut back on commercials too. ;)

Watched the final episode tonight. So much for the survivors rest. Can't wait for next season!

For anyone who has not read the books, if you have read them, True Blood has gone way down hill imo.

I am really enjoying the show. I have only read what I could of the comics from my library only once so I can't do any major comparisons between the two. Which I think is a good thing because I don't have any preconceptions about what should and should not have been included.

Oh, and so far the weakest part of an episode for me was when Rick and his pals were in the standoff with the old folks home caretakers. I understand that the caretakers had to be tough and mean and all gang like to some outsiders but all one has to do is show and tell Rick and the others what you are really up to and show your compassion. Or let the Korean kid see and learn and tell Rick what is really going on.

You could say the macho nurses did not approach this situation in the proper way and it could have turned out much worse.

Down hill isn't even the word for it. They straight jumped the shark with this show. Alan Ball has ruined a perfectly good universe. Which is a damn shame too.

Agreed regarding True Blood. He has this gay-centric outlook which tends to overshadow practically everything else.

Don't get me wrong, I like The Walking Dead. But I was thinking about the mechanics of a city over run with zombies and am wondering if the idea is that as people became infected, they attacked other people turning them into zombies, although it would take them several days to die and come back. But this process happened at a rate that the authorities were over run? Anyone who read the comic, can add any insight? Is the sequence of events explained in the graphic novel?

Thank you for qualifying the "nudity" statement. The last thing I wanna see is some decayed tatas, y'know?

At least the survivors got a night or so of actual sleep, something resembling food and another hot shower to wash some walker filth away. That, and Daryl got a new weapon; he's almost as dangerous with the axe as he is with the crossbow. Now they just need to find some gasoline, and quick.

I can't wait for the next season. Frank Darabont says he already has plans to introduce Michonne, a major character from the comic series and a fan favorite.

I can' wait either. :) I checked out Michonne at The Walking Dead Wiki. Interesting. I also found an interesting blurb about the relationship of a zombie bite to death vs a zombie bite responsible for turning someone into a zombie. This might be considered a spoiler so I just posted the Zombie link at WalkingDead.Wikia.com.

I'm just having trouble seeing how the pandemic got started. I can see that if spoiler>>everyone who died for any reason<<end spoiler, came back as a zombie, there could be a lot of zombies all of a sudden. But the process of expanding numbers and the time it takes through zombie attacks seems like it is something that could be managed. I imagine if you get bit, there is a good chance you are going to be eaten which would reduce the odds of you coming back at all. The real possibility to make the story plausible is the zombie virus in combination with a traditional pandemic like flu, that if it kills millions in a short period of time, well, there ya go. ;)
