Before I take the final step: is there anyone who’s battery problems have been (fully) solved by unpairing and re-pairing the Watch? I’m very hesitant to do it if there is not even 1 clear positive experience.
Yes, see my post here: #211

I set mine up from scratch without restoring a backup and I no longer have the rapid battery consumption that I had after upgrading to watchOS 10. The difference has been night and day for me, but for other people the problem persists, so there are no guarantees.

Then surely just wait a month or so until all the niggles are ironed out? After all you have been using the current Watch OS for several years now, what's another few weeks potentially?

Did you also try to do it WITH backup first?

The fact that - even after a 100% charge - at noon the Watch is already at 40% makes it really unusable. I can’t get to the end of the day atm.

No, I decided if I was going to waste the time to wipe it I may as well just set it up from scratch to give it the best chance of success. I just took some screenshots of the watch faces in the Watch app on iOS first so I could remember how I had them all set up.

I took my watch off the charger at 8.30 am , it is now 1.30 pm and am at 92% . So it's much better than before but I've only had a few notifications

and to add to that, my watch is behaving normal again after the unpairing and re-pairing.

I did that on my S7 SS - seems to have worked. Averaging now about 4%/hr now - about 6%/hr if I am working out a lot. Get about 18-20 hours from 100% -> 10%. My battery health is 85%.

I think that is what OS9 was, but difficult to remember as I also have an Ultra that is 36-40 hours (And I wear it the most) and I also jumped onto the Betas on the S7 really early (was it was a 'spare'). Definitely improved with a re-pair though

With backup? Or set up as new?

Same question: did you reinstall the Watch with a backup? Or set up as totally new? The only ‘succes’ stories I’m reading at the moment are people that erased and set up their Watch as new. I’m a bit hesitant to do that. If it works with backup, I’m more inclined to.

I don't want to push you to do anything you don't want to do but setting up a watch as new takes a few minutes .
The other day I erased all settings on my phone and turning them all back to what I like , now that wasn't a piece of cake 😂

OTOH , I have no music on my watch ..

Yeah, maybe you are right, but if the problem can also be fixed by reinstating a backup, I don’t need to think about watch faces, settings, …

Mine was a restore from backup. However, my backup was from a fairly new install (about 1 month) as I was having a nightmare on the betas.

One thing I noticed is that for those who have more than one watch, the drain was worse if I had auto switch on. I think there is definitely some weird polling going on.

my series 7 had horrible battery life following the update to watch os 10.

i unpaired the watch and set it up as new. battery life the remainder of that day was horrible still. but the next morning, i was back to normal. i took the watch off at 7am this morning and it's 1:15, I'm at 77% remaining, just normal checking time and notifications. Under 3.7% per hour average, I'll take it.

Quick update: did an unpairing and re-pairing WITH backup. If anything, battery drain looks worse than before…

So only one thing left: unpairing and re-pairing as a new watch with no backup. And even then, there are no guarantees. So sick of this…

7.30pm here and my watch is now 75%. Just sayin’…

Yes, I hope when I do it tomorrow I have the same experience as you (and not like others in this thread who set up as new but nothing changed). We will have to see.

How many days has it been since you did it?

Tried speaking with Apple today, they were useless to say the least. Advised to update to the latest software that is only available for the S9 and U2 when I have a U1. Looks like they have no idea there’s a problem and doesn’t look like it will be fixed soon. Absolute shambles from Apple as they’ve rendered so many phones and watches unusable for people. Hopefully they fix it soon otherwise the next upgrade won’t be with Apple.

I'd recommend everyone having problems with battery life letting Apple know directly, both by calling support and submitting formal feedback.

“Feedback - Watch

Apple wants to hear from you. Send us your comments and feedback about Apple Watch.”

I too experience exceptional battery life on the phone and watch with Bluetooth off. But that’s not a solution long term.

Was wondering what advantages you found to leaving Bluetooth on? Is this so that Emergency SOS can work via a connected iPhone? What else?

We have cellular Apple Watches and leave Airplane Mode on all day. (We turn it on when we want weather updated.)

We also turn the watches off overnight. I've been easily getting 4 days of battery life with my Series 7.

A few days after having tried everything I found here or I thought about.

Honestly my battery life was fine going to WatchOS 10.0 and even 10.0.1 but as soon as I updated my phone to 17.0.3, the battery life has dropped to the point where I don't even make it the entire day like I used to anymore - I comfortably went to work and came home (12+ hours) and still had over 40-50% but now I get home and I'm already in the single digits.

Unsure what could have changed but it's a very significant drop.
