The Weeknd, Drake and Disclosure Among Most Played Artists on Beats 1

Again Beats1 does not = Apple Music. Beats1 is just their "live" station, you can create your own station based on the artist or type of music you like. I would like to see some more "live" stations created in the future around other genre of music. Would like to see a Beats 2 for just Country, or Beats 3 for classic rock etc...
Not sure, but the launch advertising made it sound like it was a station where human DJs curate playlists for shows which are then played identically around the world.
You don't have to sign up for Beats1 radio; it's free. If you sign up to Apple Music you'll have all the classical music you can handle.
Scary, isn't it. On that list I know only the names of Drake, Selena Gomez and Florence and The Machine, and of those three, the only one whose music I've actually heard is Florence + The Machine. I might have heard Drake but not realized it.
Among the kids I know, they don't seem to actually enjoy hip-hop and rap but they will brag about listening to it because they think it makes them cool. I've heard a handful of rap singles I liked because there was a solid story in them. But everything else I've heard in passing is
. And some of it is so misogynistic that I fear my mother's generation burned their bras in vain. So much nylon and cotton and polyester died for nothing. However, the genres of music I'm interested in are just as easily made fun of and dismissed. Thank you, Blake Shelton, for the immortal refrain "chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit!"
I'm sure he pulled that one from the depths of his soul. Yeah I didn't realize that this only applied to Beats1 not AppleMusic as a whole. My Bad.
So much for "I don't get why you get hip hop all the time - you have to listen to another station then me" I got for criticism on Beats1 music selection.
Spotify was ok, but since I have been so happy with all my apple gear, I thought I would ditch spotify and only use apple music. AM feels like a unfinished product and WAY too biased when it comes to music genres. Disappointed!
Where are all the people who kept on claiming it doesn't play mostly rap?
Tried Beats 1 off and on a few times, I will not be tuning in again because every time I tried it was hip hop and I'm not interested in that.

I've never heard of most of those artists either and I'm in the UK! Probably just a US bias at the moment if they have more people using it. Although I am not disappointed with the lack of EuroVison stars on the list I have to admit

So the fatty with his balls in a pinch, squeeling during the keynote, actually got on a top list? Wow. Well, not that surprised, got fed up with Beats 1 after 20-30 minutes. They only play angry thugs talking fast 'bout blings, hoes and murder. If thats mucic, come over to my place, Ill kick you hard in the balls, and you get famous. (Coz now Ur gonna be mad, talk fast like hell, have a squeeky voice, and want to kill me, typical the prereqs for a rap tune)
I logged in just to agree with your comment. Those are exactly the same two artists that I have ever heard of on that list.
Like others have posted, I like "For You" since it's pretty good at showing me playlists and artists that I enjoy listening to. I've discovered some good songs that I've never heard before from artists that I thought I knew fairly well.
It speaks volumes that classical music is not on the list. It says we are being programmed.
So basically a bunch of artists I hate/don't care about/never heard of... The only artist I know some songs is Royal Blood because they opened for the Foo Fighters in Quebec City (or what was supposed to be a FF show but ended up being cut by a thunderstorm after 4 songs. Everlong under the storm was epic anyway!) and they were pretty good! Oh and I might know Beck and Florence + the Machine. Glad I don't listen to Beats 1, I'll stick to my library or the For You section.

The most played genre by some margin is junk. This is Tim Cook's Apple. When Ferguson is overrun by thuggish riots, Apple elect to play the genre most filled with violence, hatred and evil.
Go figure.
So much for Tim Cook celebrating diversity.

The 80s was the only time that rap was worth listening to. It quickly degenerated into its current filthy state.
Super cool to see some more unknown artists getting played in the USA. Some really great ones up there.
I'm curious to see how this all changes when people have to start paying... because these numbers as of right now are skewed because it's all free.... once that parts over the demographics and analytical data will change for sure.
Not sure what you mean, AM has pretty much every genre of music you could ever want. It will play any of them as often as you would like. Beats 1 does not = AM.
