MacBook Pro
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - 2 GB Mem - 110 GB Hard Drive

I am a system administrator, so I use it for remote admin work, documentation (I prefer the keyboard over my workstation's), tcl/bash/python/whatever scripting (again, it's a keyboard thing), watching movies, web/email...other general fun stuff.

I have a couple of iBook G4's as well, running linux (Ubuntu) that I use for the same thing...I don't remember the specs tho' just stock 12 and 14 iBook G4's that were bought about 2 years ago (i think??)

I'm still in school, and I use it for everything, but I use Office most, then, iTunes, Aperture 2, FCP2, QT Pro, Toast, Photoshop, and handbrake. I also use it as a movie server for my mini in my entertainment center. I just bought Lego Star Wars II...good stuff.

2.8GHz Octocore - 10GB RAM - 150GB Raptor - 750GB Seagate - 320GB Seagate - 8800GT - AirPort Extreme - Dell 2407WFP

The Mac Pro replaced a 2.33GHz MBP on a KVM with a Dell 2407 and a Core2Quad Q6700 that was a file server on the same KVM. Not sure what to do with the Q6700 now.

This is my primary box now and it streams all my media throughout the house to XBMC and hopefully an :apple:TV soon.

Software I run that is demanding:
Folding@Home
MacTheRipper
Handbrake
CS3
Final Cut Studio 2

I have an Early 2008 8-core 3.0, 16GB RAM, Sonnet eSata card, 3+TB external storage, 2TB eSATA RAID, 23" ACD, ATI card.

I work from home and use it almost solely for work. I've got my MBP for other stuff. My 2 projects since I got it were some Flash work for the Nike Skateboarding website and the opening titles for a Hollywood movie that will be out later this year. The work for the movie was at 2K resolution in a 32-bit color-space, and let's just say this machine could BARELY keep up. Even so, it got the job done.

Wow thats some demanding work!

Well I have the Mac Pro 2.8Ghz 8 core, 16gb RAM, 3TB, 8800GT, 150gb Raptor 10k as boot. I use it mainly for parallels, vm fusion, handbrake, visual hub, internet browsing (massive amounts!),itunes, newsgroups, unison, hd encoding/extracting, and mostly storage for hd movies which can easily eat up all your space.. and music collection as well.

One thing I do love about the mac pro is that it has an optical input that I can use to my hifi system for good listening.

Mac pro 08, 2.8 8 gigs of ram, 1.6 terebytes of space on main machine.

Use the following programs:
Photoshop CS3 photographer websites
After Effects CS3
Premiere CS3
Dreamweaver CS3
Encore CS3
Handbrake

Learning Flash

Just opened up the xCode app, wanting to learn that.

Specs in sig...

I use mine as a home computer - A lot of web use, but I also use Garageband with my Les Paul and M-Audio keyboard. I do a lot of Photoshop and Lightroom, but I don't do it professionally yet (hoping to start up with that sometime in the near future.)

I really bought this machine, more along the lines with edesignuk - more for the future-proofing, plus I hate the idea of a computer with monitor built in, and I'm used to having a tower system on PC where I can actually upgrade it - I wanted that option on the Mac, and this was the only way to get it.

Cool, so far everyone with different reasons usages for the mac pro! Very nice!

Also forgot to mention I stream hd dvds from the mac pro as well to the xbox 360! :D

Quad 2.8 Mac Pro: 4 Gb RAM, 1 Tb (2 x 500 Gb), 2 ODs, airport, other than that, stock.

Used for HD video editing and programming, next to the web browsing, iTunes, iChat, etc. I'll throw in another quad 2.8 later if I can get a heat sink for it.

The setup in my sig,
I use it for:
Graphic Design, mostly Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Compressor, Indesign, LiveType, Motion, Carrara 3D Pro, DVD studio Pro.

Oh and Mail, Internet.:D

Professionally I use it for:

Compositing: After Effects <-- I was wowed by the speed and workflow
Video Editing: Premiere <--same as above
3d Animation: Cinema 4D <--Uses all cores to render making the fastest renderer ever!

Casually:
Programming: Xcode <- The best thing Apple can offer for free!

I currently have 2gigs of ram right now and I definitely have to upgrade to a 6gig in total for After Effects

how can that be when the mac version is the pc version running under Cider?
I have read various threads on here and figured that I should go with the native xp version.

My brother's 20" Al iMac (2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO). Tried both Windows (running natively via Boot Camp) and the Mac OS X version. Stuck with the Mac version cause it had smoother graphics and faster loading times.

I haven't compared it with my hardware, so I'm taking his word for it.

2.8 octo-core, 10GB Ram, 8800GT, 3 x 750GB HD, 30" display.

mainly used for maya rendering, bit of video/motion and photoshop, but also do a lot of handbrake etc (hence the storage). Loving it, just wished more of the 'consumer' grade apps were multi threaded.

Mac Pro Quad 2.8 GHz w/8800GT.

I use it for Photoshop CS3, Nikon Capture NX, and general computing. Plan on adding 8GB of memory and couple more hard drives in a month or so. So far it has been an amazing upgrade from my Rev. A 12" Powerbook

I understand why you might like After Effects over Shake, but Premiere?

Me and my Mac

My Mac from my sig, with 10 GB RAM, 2TB internal with 1.5 TB or so external for animation frames & assets with a 23" ACD & 17" generic lcd-thing for second monitor.

Traditional & After Effects animation, Photoshop & sound for mobile, web and film. The Mac Pro is strictly business with the old '02 Quicksilver running the entertainment side (internet, iTunes, etc...).

Mac Pro 2008, 2.8 Octo, 10GB, 3x730 Samsung

Logic Pro, Reason, Sibelius, ReCycle, Kontakt, Arturia Factory, Stormdrum, etc. All day, almost everyday.

On the hobby-side I use Aperture and Photoshop.

I'm amazed some folks have Mac Pros to run the web and i-apps. I don't even connect my Mac Pro to the net except for updates and downloads. The old powerbook 12 inch works just fine for surfing and writing.

early 2008 octo 2.8. Still getting by on 2gb of ram, stock 320gb, 8800gt.

I bought it as an excuse to start writing mac apps, but I spend more time playing WoW:rolleyes:.

Going to further obsolete my PC when i can afford some more ram and a copy of VMWare... I'll just do all my Windows and Linux programming through there :)

Early 2008 Mac Pro
2 x 2.8 GHz CPUs
10GB RAM
1.6TB Total Disk
Two Western Digital 640GB drives
