Back when I was a kid I dislocated fingers several times and both hands, at different times.

My worst is probably nearly having a little finger amputated by a door being slammed shut on my hand when I was 7 or 8.

Thats cruel :apple:

Ouch!

Two years ago last month i shattered my hip joint and dislodged a plate in my left hip, i think it was called an avulsion fracture or something? Anyway, whilst doing this i tore all of the muscles and ligaments around my hip/thigh area.

It was an absolutely awful injury that my doctor said has a 1/5000 chance of happening and i am still recovering to this day.

Positive thing is though, i got a nice :apple: MacBook out of it. My parents bought it me to have fun with because i basically couldn't do anything and was on crutches for the best part of 18 months. How i love my macbook, its got my through some tough times :D

I've also done minor things like sprain wrists and ankles, break fingers and dislocate my thumb. I play ice hockey and do freestyle skiing!

Let's see, hmmm, there's so much.

I had knee surgery for a stage one patella realignment because my knee was consistently popping out of socket.

I've broken my arm three times, left once and right twice, one of which was a severe fracture with the bone coming out of place.

I broke my big toe on my right foot kicking a wall in a racquetball tournament.

I split my right leg open on sheet metal while playing sand volleyball. That one required lots of stitches and left a nice crooked scar.

I stabbed into my left hand and opened up the inside of my palm while foolishly using a knife to cut a candle. Again, multiple stitches and a really cool scar. This happened in college during finals week. I told everyone I saved my girlfriend from being stabbed when someone tried to mug us. It got me out of an exam. :D

As a child I got my right index finger caught in a metal door and it ripped off the end of my finger. They had to burn a hole through my nail to sew it up. That finger is slightly different to this day in a variety of ways.

As a toddler a piece of peanut "went down the wrong pipe" and collapsed my left lung. I'm told it was very scary and that I could have died. The oral medicine they game me did something to my gums that made my permanent teeth on the bottom come in with a slight yellow sheen to them.

It's not a major injury, but one of my favorite stories is when I was around age 8 -10 on my grandparent's farm and begged my dad to let me shoot the big shotgun (12 gauge with buck shot) for fun. He finally gave into my pleading. I aimed cross eyed at that point in my shooting career and the recoil of the gun hit me so hard in the jaw that it knocked a tooth clean out.

I've been in around twenty automobile accidents in my life and no I wasn't the driver in all of them. Fortunately, I have walked away from every one with no injury at all. And, no they were not all simple fender benders. I've totalled two cars personally one of which involved taking out a telephone pole and the other was on an international road trip where I abandoned the car.

That's all I can think of for now.

Oh yeah, I was bit by a wild squirrel too. Does that count?

Worst of the worst: In third grade I was attempting to impress a girl by walking across the domed monkey bars cage and slipped. Both legs went through and I landed perfectly centered on one of the bars. It took eight stitches to fix the boys.

Anybody ever see the trick where you hold a beer bottle by the neck and slap the top forcing air into the bottle and busting out the bottom? I had just finished my second beer of the night (so not even close to buzzing yet) and I was attemping to teach somebody this amazing trick. Sadly I was holding the bottle too low and when the bottom busted out the rest of it shattered in my hand. Nearly severed my left ring finger causing all sorts of nerve and ligament damage. I'll be collecting disability compensation for the rest of my life so that's kinda nice.

Why do you get money for stupidity? :p

Damn good question, actually.

I get money because it was an injury that occurred on a military base. It's disability compensation. My finger is still pretty unusable these days. Stupid thing is I had surgery for a hernia from carrying too much weight on hikes (radio operator) and a catheter ablation for an extreme case of Wolfe-Parkinson's White and I got 0% for those. Any further medical bills as a result of them are covered by the V.A. but I get no monthly compensation.

Just a perk of serving my country, I guess. ;)

Our tax dollars at work. You may not want to advertise the fact you're getting money for this. It could really make a lot of people very angry.

Never broken anything, only had to get stitches one time. Was at Whistler, last day with freezing rain. Slipped while carrying my board to my car, 4 stitches to left palm. I got it fixed 10 hours later in Seattle.

Besides that I have thrown my back out 2 times, once when I was 16 and then 6 months ago. Both times are not fun. First time was playing with a friends little brother, twirling him around. Second time was taking off my pants and bending over (just changing clothes people).

Broken ankle from falling down stairs. Though smashing my shin after falling of a stationary bike did hurt A LOT

I got into a fender bender years ago. Slid on some black ice, rear-ended a car, got out, apologized and looked over the relatively minimal damage with the owner. While I was standing between his car and my own, another car slid on the black ice and skidded out of control into the back of my car, pushing it forward so that my car rear-ended the first car again. Unfortunately, I was still standing between the first car and mine at the time.

Result: fractures in both lower legs. I remember collapsing to the ground in pain. People were telling me not to try to move, while around us I could hear other cars sliding and crashing into each other. "Don't move?!?!" Are you kidding me? I was only damaged, but to keep laying there, I could've gotten killed.

So I dragged myself backwards, on my elbows, to the sidewalk, where at least I was a little safer. But the upshot is, my legs healed but are still deformed, and always will be.

The collision was relatively low-speed, and the doctors told me that if the car had been going faster, my legs would've been so crushed I would've needed amputation.

Why do you get money for stupidity? :p
I've heard similar stories, some of them even accidental. From a medevac crew I once learned about a roofer who lost his balance and fell off the roof. The hammer he was holding preceded him by a second or so. By sheer chance, the hammer landed on its head, the handle standing straight up. A second later, the roofer landed on the hammer, taking it straight up his groin.

That one made me uneasy for weeks. Correction: it still does.

Insomnia.

No joke, insomnia can kill.

coulda sworn i'd posted this already but heyho lol

i was about 13 riding my bike in the rain along the pavement ( like kids do ) and i swerved to avoid some people, right into a bus stop that kinda jumped out at me lmao, my behind slide off the saddle and introduced my crown jewels into the handlebar stem area with enough force to give me paint by colors for a week haha

But it's not in anyway an injury.

Have you ever had it? The topic doesn't say physical injuries...thus psychological ones should count. It is also the most painful experience of my life and I would take any physical pain I've experienced thus far over that.

That reminds me: I rode my tricycle down the steps of our front porch when I was little. I didn't get real banged up, but scratched ("abraded" is a better word) quite a bit.

Long story short:

Was leaving my girlfriend's grandparents' lakehouse early in the morning to get back in time for a noon scholarship luncheon. Myself and 4 others were in the car. They all fell asleep. I did too. (none of us drink, so don't jump to conclusions ;))

Drifted into the left lane of a two-lane highway and woke up when a semi truck started honking at me because I was headed for a head-on collision. Flipped the car 5 times (landed it, though) off the highway, so there wasn't a steep ditch. The helicopter pilots thought we'd surely all be dead.

One walked away with minor scratches, two walked away without a single scratch (and the iPhone survived...just sayin'), and my girlfriend had some deep cuts on her leg but is good now (MBP didn't fair too well, but insurance covered that :)).

I was the worst...basal skull fracture, lung contusion, deep cut to the back of my hand requiring 14 stitches, cuts to my arms, and "periorbital ecchymosis" or "raccoon/panda eyes" as a result of the skull fracture.

All is well now though :) There are no lasting effects other than a scar on my hand and a few small ones on my arms. From the waist down, you wouldn't know I was in an accident the day it happened.

WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. IT SAVED MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY FRIENDS.

Took a baseball bat full swing to the head when I was 6. Out cold, near instantly. I don't remember it happening, or a whole lot after that for a while... Fractured my skull and needed a hell of a lot of stitches. (Amazingly the scar is barely noticeable today, at least considering the circumstances.)

But the worst I actually do remember is throwing out my back on a trampoline when I was 11. I was in bed for a week or so, I couldn't move without serious pain.

Broken my ankle once and it never got put in plaster. That was rather painful.

In the space of 2 weeks, had hit a car, bus and pedestrian whilst out on the bike. That wasn't too bad as blood and excruciating pain but it took a good month to get over it. No idea if anything was broken, i didn't want to go to the hospital but my wrists still hurt and this is 3 months later.

Looking at the picture of the truck it is truly amazing that everyone survived. That's quite the story. I don't need to tell you as you've already mentioned how blessed you and your friends are to still be here.

Really, our lives were saved because of seatbelts. One of my friends wouldn't put his on and I told him we weren't leaving until he did...

Also, the airbags didn't deploy because it wasn't a front-end impact. That probably saved even further injury for me...

I came off my bike a couple of years back. Got nothing more than a stinging graze on my hip and some bruises, but the graze left an interesting shaped scar. That really is about the worst that's happened to me.

A) Dislocated right shoulder playing badminton in school.

B) Dislocated left shoulder because I fell with my arm outwards and landed on a car trunk. It was winter out.

C) Re dislocated my left shoulder when I was sleeping because I put my arm over my head, couldn't get out of the bed had to have my dad drive over to pick me up. Hoe embarrassing.
