Id have to say the new macbook air is the worst mac ever. Im not saying its worse than others in the past what im saying is that at this moment in time. Anyone even remotely considering this laptop is completely ignorant/conceited. Compared to a macbook pro which is only 1/4 of an inch bigger (whoops did i just drive the macbook airs claim to fame into the ground?) and the regular macbooks are only about a 1/3 of inch bigger. Now onto the stats. They are complete ********. The processor is the same as in all the macbooks but with a worse speed. The air was origionally supposed to have the new 45nm chipsets designed to save battery and even allow apple to pump up the processing speed, but the air got stuck with a 65nm chip shoved into a slot designed for the 45 lol. Video card is ridiculous. 3500 gma grpahics is lame and most games for mac will not be able to run on these graphics (not compatible at all but that odesnt mean they arent bad). I could go on but i have some buisiness to take care of so ill try and end with a few comments. The macbook air is marketed as an ultraportable but it is far from it with a massive 13 inch screen (plus apple still hasnt gotten rid of those ugly oversized edges around the screen that are also on the regular macbooks and not on the pros). Also whats with the stupid gross black keys?

I really think you guy should stop whining about the air. Have you ever actually used one? No. End of story. This thread is not "Post your flame war topics!"

iMac G3, absolutly detested these with a passion.

Found them slow and the OS (cant remeber which) was annoying. Hated the mouse as it was too small for my slightly large hands and the keyboard was not great for typing

In 1999 I bought my first new Mac - a Rev. C 266MHz Lime iMac. I loved that computer...it took me through college. It was my first computer with 3D acceleration, the first that could play MP3s, the first with USB...

I also beat the crap out of it. The tray-loading CD-ROM was prone to breakage and I broke it...then the high-voltage board blew, destroying the power supply and CRT in the process. In the days before the Mac Mini the $500 repair bill seemed reasonable. It's too slow to run OSX for anything other than basic stuff, but I have a sentimental attachment to that iMac.

And I liked the hockey puck mouse. :)

I wouldn't have installed Leopard if I didn't have to do a review...

That was my favorite portable ever! Except... um... when I had to smack it to see anything on the display.. It was also blindingly bright in one corner.

Not technically a flame. Do hate that fan though. Did you have the GA or DVI model? Apparently that makes a lot of difference. My main computer now is an 867 TiBook, and it's great aside from the fan thing, so it may have just been your machine.

Mine was the VGA model. Is that supposed to be the better one or the worse one?

The fan issue was the thing that made me hate the TiBook the most. I just couldn't stand hearing that loud fan kick in when I was just browsing the web.

And I loved the PB G3 so much that after I bought it I never bought another Mac Desktop again, only portables!

VGA was the bad one. Mine was your exact same model, actually. My newest TiBook (867MHz) isn't fanning(?) right now, but it does if I do light video editing.

Awww... You missed all the Quicksilvers! I had three! They were great! Get one!

My first computer was the same! 266MHz iMac G3 (rev. c). robust. The mouse was replace in 2000 with the black/see-through optical version the cube had and the keyboard is the white Apple keyboard.

Still in use running OS X 10.3 today and in full working order with 512MB of RAM. Apple never wrote graphics drivers for Mac OS X, but it doesn't really make any odds for everyday use. Works as a good print server as well.

If you have one with OS 8.5.x, then put 8.6 or 9.1 on, as these were more reliable. 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 also all run well enough (protected memory and automatic memory management are good enough reasons alone, plus the fact you get a good web browser and email client). Office 2004 runs well too, especially Word and Excel. Photoshop 7.0/CS is also managable, but not ideal. It could also cope with Flash MX 2004 and Dreamweaver MX. TextMate, Transmit also run.

They are extremely robust and reliable. Definitely should be no where near this list.

I still have to disagree about putting the MacBook Air on a "Worst Macs" list...the sole complaint seems to be low feature content and high price - but that is missing the point, as I've said before.

Hey Lord B.

I have no problem with the price of it. My reasons though are due to the lack of longevity of the Flash HDD and the IMO, ugliness. If they made it all black, great. If they made it all silver with a black border around the screen (like an iMac), great! But all silver with black keys!? Yuck. I'd rather have them bring back the 80/90's beige!

As far as low amount of features.. I'd say that about every Mac. I love Macs, so don't pounce on me and call me a troll. But I was going to get a Black MacBook, but now I'm looking into the Dell XPS Ultra-Portable M1330 Laptop. I get more color choices, same processor as the Macbook, HDMI port, Fingerprint Reader!, SD Reader, etc.. for less money than the Macbook. I have my G5, G4 Cube and my girlfriends White CD Macbook at home, so I won't be missing out on Mac OS X.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose, so we're all entitled to our opinions there...but I like the MavBook Air's appearance, the black keyboard is a throwback to the Titanium PowerBook G4, which I also thought looked great. I think the XPS M1330 looks ugly myself - a fussy, flashy design.

The SSD drive should last until you're a retiree, multicard readers are cheap and plentiful, the DVI-out will drive any display I can ever afford and a fingerprint reader, though cool, can hardly be seen as a killer feature.

It's all subjective...there are no right answers for everyone. As long as you're happy with your laptop all's well.

So they can't be that bad if they still work… :D

Ohh, yes they can. I didn't mean so much bad from a reliability standpoint(we've got iMacs for that!), but from a performance standpoint.

Can't say I'll miss them when they go the dumpster route(well, not really, but you've got my drift.)

10.5 is running strong and stable for me.. to equate it with 10.0 is like equating XP to Tiger.

id say its more like comparing windows 3.1 to vista. i like xp. its not a mac but it more or less gets the job done.
