I am the It dpeartment where I work, and I just got a good one yesterday. This girl at one of our stores calls me up and ask "What does it mean when the computer says "You have performed an illegal opperation blah blah blah ....""? So I said that the internet police were on the way. She was like "What? What do you mean? I was just trying to send something to print." I asked her if she had installed any illegal sofware on her system lately, to which she said no. Then she asked me "What will they do when they get here?" I told her she was going to be arrested, and she should erase everything on the computer. She started to get a little upset, and wanted to know why this was going on, because she did not know what she did wrong. I told her this was a risk of working with a pc, and that it had to do with security problems over at Microsoft. The conversation went on for a couple of more minutes before she finally asked me if I was serious, to which I replied "No, restart the stupid pc, and it should be fine. If it does it again call me, and I'll come check it out." Lucky for me, that did the trick, and I didn't have to go see her. I told a couple of people in the office, and we all had a good laugh at her expense.

EXACTLY! i plan on using my 12 incher for atleast 4 years.

I had an instructor at school tell me this "macs look cool but i need to have wireless internet on my laptop." (another instuctors tangerine ibook didnt have a PC card slot so that ment no wi-fi to him) Then we discussed how he was on his third PC card cause the the antena's kept breaking. To this day i dont think he belives a mac has it built in, or atleast an internal bay for it.

i like this thread :) :) :)

i went into the local gateway country just to see what kind of help i would get. i asked about the profile. the rep told me all this stuff (thinking i was a complete idiot) and then told me that it came with microsoft word. i said i think i could get it for the imac and he said, and i quote "Microsoft does not and will never make software for the Apple Mac."

That is funny on so many levels.

I have heard a lot about the fun made of floppy drive questions, but as I see here, the pain mac'ers take is much worser then what I believed... :D

take it easy guys... they are only peeceers.. :D

"i don't want to get a mac because you can't get stuff like photoshop" - this was said to me by a guy at my college who claimed to be a designer

"macs are so incompatible with pcs - you can't even open a JPG on a mac and all the best designers work with JPGs" - said a guy in a computer shop when i was enquiring about scanners. This is the same guy that told me there's no point in getting more than 128MBs RAM.

when speaking to a friend of mine about webdevelopment: "Macs are crap for web programming because you can't test PHP/Perl scripts locally, you can on a pc and it only takes about an hour to set up Apache and PHP once you've downloaded them" - yeah, so true, i mean it took me 4 mouseclicks and apache's running, then about 2 minutes to remove the # on two lines of the httpd.conf.

"wheres the c drive?" or better yet "where's the start button?"

'Soooo, what kind of Intel processor does your Mac have?'

or

'If I buy a Mac, can I still use windoze as my main OS?'

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

I know someone who actaully did this, and screwed up his imac.

that is completely 100% impossible. The only non-mac OS's you can install on a mac are a couple of flavours of linux (there may be others, but DEFINATELY not XP or any other breed of windows).

let me clarify what i said, they TRIED to put xp it. They finally stopped trying when all that would come up is the blue screen (after the apple logo/ spinning thing).

At a Dutch phone company trying to sell iMacs (rev a at the time):
Customer: "I like this iMac, is it possible to buy Office for Mac?"
Salesman: "Sure, but you have to buy and install Virtual PC first, ofcourse"

OMG.

god reading some of these really makes me wonder about people. i get the "yea but like nobody uses those computers" all the time. personally i dont think Apple should try to gain market share, i mean honestly, do you want these people to be using macs as well? they will contaminate the mac intelligence pool.

My favorite? "Macs suck"

That's it, no evidence offered, just a blanket statement.

'Course my reaction is the same if such a blanket statement is made about anything - Including Wintel. :D

Actually, that's not true. There was a version of WindowsNT 3.51 that was compiled to run on Mac hardware. Now, it has been a while since such a thing existed, but it was once possible to put a breed of Windows on a Mac (not using VPC).

good for you

Ahh, someone with reason...

"Your computers stupid because it has no floppy drive and the screens too thin."

Im serious.....

"Why do you have every thing so small
on your screen?"
(They then continued to change the resolution on my 1440x900 iMac down to 640x480)

Not really a question but still very stupid.

it is unbelievable how many times i hear that, that "macs suck": i go to ask them why they "suck", and they almost always come up with the general contents of this thread.

i just thought this was a great idea for a thread after debating in a general computer forum (macs and pcs) about the merits of the mac platform. the person actually said that macs sucked because you cannot upgrade them. at all. :D

come on people there are lots of pc users and less mac users, surely you have heard a few good ones. keep em coming buddies :p

...but i can get an emachine for $499.

yeah, you go get that emachine. ill see you back here in a month.

hAHAHA

"and the screens too thin."
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! Thats great. I'm tring to get my dad to get the 12" PB rather than the stupid Sony Viao that has the worst battery time and looks like total crap! Well the IT guys said that if he hooked it up to the network they wouldn't support it and that it could bring down all the servers. Now my dad thinks word is the OS its kinda funny.

What gets me is how all the stupid PC makers advertize their comps being able to connect to the net anywhere then in small print it says stuff about you need a wireless card. Many people especialy PC users think that (my dad) thinks from the adds you can connect anywhere with the new Centrino CPU HAHAHA. What a joke.

I'm writing this on my new PC that is totaly sweet. Now all i need is os x. What i like about PC's is how many thing things you can change and mess around with like trainers and such. It's fine if you have a good anti virus app. Norton 2003 Pro is really good. I has deleted about 40. OS X and iapps are way better than anything for PC.

I love how everyone thinks that the internet is unique to the computer they own. HELLO! its the same no matter what machine you use to access it. People are so stupid. Alot of people ask me about the floppy drive and I ask them if they can tell me the last time they used theirs; most of them look up and to the left trying to remember but they cant. Thats enough of an answer for me, and them.

Its so true, im amazed by the amount of people who honestly think that all the web pages are stored on "the Windows server" or something.

I must be a magnet for Windows idiots or something.....

There are a few people I know that have had similar responses: "I couldn't use a Mac because it has no floppy drive, and I use floppies all the time."

I, of course, pointed out that for a few bucks more (about $39 the last I saw) you can buy a USB floppy drive for a Mac. To which I've recieved responses like "that's stupid, it should just come with the computer."

And then they balk at me when I point out that they complain about not being able to upgrade a Mac, and then they complain when this simple "upgrade" is available.

Man, people can be so strange.

P.S.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend getting a 15 gig iPod. The extra 5gig is essentially free, when you consider that the dock, better ear buds with remote, and the belt case actually cost more than the difference between the cost of the two units. Just a suggestion...

I estimate that to get that 330 for a ten gig it will take atleast 2 mo. at a job; i would prefer not to have to work 3 months to get that extra 5 gigs.
